Chapter 697: Chapter 7: Hybrid

Night, in the Tosaka family courtyard.

As one of the Three Major Magic Families, the Tosaka family, though few in number, holds a high status both among ordinary people and magicians.

The courtyard, although not luxurious, is quite solemn. Under the moonlight, a pool of blood and a white mask by the pond in the courtyard stand out prominently. Various treasures are stuck in the ground. Just a few minutes ago, a battle took place here, a fight between Heroic Spirits, which ended quickly due to the vast difference in strength.

In the depths of the courtyard, a Heroic Spirit clad in golden armor, with golden short hair and crimson eyes, stands on a high spot, looking down at the pool of blood in the courtyard with a condescending gaze.

Behind this Heroic Spirit are golden spatial ripples, as if treasures were just summoned from some space.

This Heroic Spirit is Gilgamesh, also known as the golden flash, once a demigod, the oldest King of Heroes, and currently the Archer (Knight of the Bow), with Tokiomi Tohsaka as his Master.

Gilgamesh looks down at the ’dead’ Heroic Spirit Assassin with disdain but also some confusion. He is puzzled because, although it was an act, the opponent was too weak.

Noticing the gaze of Tokiomi Tohsaka from inside the castle, Gilgamesh slightly raises his chin and begins to speak, or rather mock, the body of Assassin.

”You are not worthy of looking at me. Becoming a corpse is your proper stance. An insect should die crawling on the ground like an insect, mongrel.”

Gilgamesh’s personality is arrogant and tyrannical, with an attitude of ’Only I am the Supreme,’ habitually calling others ’mongrels.’ In his words, if one is not arrogant, what kind of king is one?

Though Gilgamesh seems to kill without hesitation, he follows two principles: one, ’the enemy has an ugly soul,’ and two, the enemy harbors killing intent towards him.

The second point is easy to explain. As for the first point, ’enemy has an ugly soul,’ it’s quite interesting because whether the enemy’s soul is ugly is entirely judged by Gilgamesh himself. Whoever displeases him has an ugly soul.

Overall, he is a very capable tyrant at governing a country. Compared to other Heroic Spirit Kings, Gilgamesh is not considered wise, yet his country is the most stable.

After overlooking the slowly disintegrating remains of Assassin for a while, Gilgamesh’s body begins to turn transparent and eventually disappears. This is a skill all Heroic Spirits possess, spiritualization. If any ’Heroic Spirit’ lacked this ability, it would be Su Xiao.

Inside the Tosaka house’s mansion, seeing the scene in the courtyard through the window, Tokiomi Tohsaka reveals a smile. As he had expected, Gilgamesh is indeed the strongest Heroic Spirit in this Holy Grail War, and he is certain to win.

Although this battle was pre-planned by him and another Heroic Spirit Master, the ’killed’ Heroic Spirit did not know about it. This was meant to confuse the attention of other Masters.

”Toshiomi, I didn’t expect you to make this king do such a trivial thing.”

Spiritualized, Gilgamesh materializes in the room, looking slightly displeased.

”I sincerely apologize, King of Kings, Heroic King Gilgamesh. Tonight’s action was to assert the deterrent power of the Heroic King and to plan future strategies.”

Holding a glass of red wine, Tokiomi Tohsaka bows to Gilgamesh. For a Master, bowing to one’s Heroic Spirit is extremely rare.

However, although Gilgamesh is indeed powerful, his arrogance makes him extremely difficult to serve. It’s more apt to say that Tokiomi summoned a ’father’ rather than a Servant.

Most of the time, Gilgamesh doesn’t follow Tokiomi’s orders. If there is any ’request,’ Tokiomi needs to negotiate with Gilgamesh, and whether or not he agrees depends on Gilgamesh’s mood.

Initially, discovering this crushed Tokiomi’s heart, but to win the Holy Grail, Tokiomi chose to endure.

Don’t be fooled by Tokiomi’s current obeisance. He plans to use a command seal to kill Gilgamesh. The Holy Grail belongs to him alone. No Heroic King or King of Kings would be exempt from suicide under the command seal’s binding.

”Please, Heroic King, be patient. Everything is for your Holy Grail.”

Tokiomi Tohsaka maintains his bowing posture, spilling a bit of the red wine from his cup.

”Hmph, alright, seems like for now I can only kill time by taking walks. Fortunately, this era is rather interesting.”

At Gilgamesh’s words, Tokiomi Tohsaka, still bowing, is a bit surprised.

”Do you quite like the modern world?”

”Inconceivably ugly, but it does have its merits. The point is that there isn’t any treasure here that can enhance my wealth. If there’s nothing I like, summoning me here is a grave offense, Toshiomi.”

Gilgamesh glances sideways at Tokiomi Tohsaka, who is bowing and misses the look, a kind of knowing gaze.

As a former king and demigod, how could the Heroic King not perceive the malice inadvertently emitted by Tokiomi Tohsaka?

”Please rest assured, my king, the Holy Grail will surely satisfy you...”

”Whether I am satisfied is for me to decide. By the way, Toshiomi, what was that explosion about earlier? Though it was somewhat pleasing to hear.”

Gilgamesh gestures for Tokiomi Tohsaka to stand up, implying he need not bow continuously.

”The explosion earlier has been investigated. It was Matou House’s ancient castle that was destroyed. According to traces found at the scene, it’s likely the work of a Heroic Spirit.”

”A Heroic Spirit’s doing? Already?”

Gilgamesh takes an interest.

”Yes, from the information known, it was an unknown Heroic Spirit battling with Matou Zouken, resulting in Matou Zouken’s death. What’s puzzling is the summoning array beneath Matou House still has magical power residue, indicating Matou House is also part of this Holy Grail War. Through magical exploration, there’s only one Heroic Spirit’s magical power at the scene.”

Tokiomi Tohsaka’s expression isn’t very pleasant. Based on the current situation, there is only one possibility.

”The Heroic Spirit summoned by the Matou House destroyed the Matou House?”

It seems Gilgamesh heard something amusing, and he rarely smiles.

”Nine out of ten times... that’s the case.”

”Interesting, if not an internal strife within Matou House, then the Heroic Spirit killed the Master, which is simply...”

Gilgamesh doesn’t finish his sentence. A smile emerges on his gradually spiritualizing lips. Although he also wants to kill his own Master, he doesn’t dare do so. The command seal is something he cannot oppose. Having come to the present world with difficulty, Gilgamesh doesn’t want to disappear.

However, Gilgamesh’s interest has been piqued. If that unknown Heroic Spirit has not yet disappeared, he would very much like to ask how they killed their own Master.

When Gilgamesh becomes spiritualized and leaves the mansion, Tokiomi Tohsaka drinks his finest wine to the last drop and sinks his entire body into the sofa.

”I really can’t stand it, summoning a Gilgamesh who can act independently—the Archer class Servant who attacks Masters—utter madness. Plus, all these unknown mages running rampant in Fuyuki City, where did they all come from?”

Tokiomi Tohsaka is quite troubled. It’s not only Gilgamesh that’s causing him headaches, but also the current situation.

...

On the outskirts of Fuyuki City, in a desolate field.

Su Xiao holds a map in his hand, with the painted command seal on the back of his right hand standing out prominently. Behind him follows Bubu Wang, and behind Bubu Wang follows Sakura Matou, while behind Sakura Matou is ’Berserker’ Matou Yanye.

”Why are we at the outskirts? According to the map, Liu Dong Temple should be nearby.”
