Chapter 698: Chapter 8: Conjecture

This peculiar group is none other than Su Xiao’s team. He and Bubu Wang need no further introduction. After some observation, Su Xiao found that apart from occasionally being afraid of him and closely following Bubu Wang, Sakura Matou showed no other emotions.

As for ’Berserker’ Matou Gan Ye, he was quite intriguing. At the moment, this guy was reeking of paint and closely following Sakura Matou. The strong paint smell from him was so overpowering that it made Sakura Matou roll her eyes.

Su Xiao glanced at Matou Gan Ye’s calf. The black paint on the armor of his lower leg had not dried, and after being rubbed by the waist-high weeds, the paint had peeled off.

Bubu Wang occasionally snorted and looked at Su Xiao with a pleading gaze, as if to say, ”Master, please have this guy emitting black smoke keep his distance from me. The smell is overwhelming.”

Su Xiao ignored Bubu Wang. Although there were now four people in the team, if a battle were to break out, none of them would be deadweight.

Bubu Wang was responsible for keeping Sakura Matou hidden, while Matou Gan Ye was free to do as he pleased, as long as he did not attack Su Xiao. Currently, this guy was durable but didn’t have much attack power, and it would take other Heroic Spirits some time to kill him.

Checking the map in his hand, Su Xiao continued to search for Liu Dong Temple, but after two hours of searching, he still hadn’t found any trace of Liu Dong Temple.

Standing in a field of wild grass, Su Xiao frowned as he checked the map in his hand. He had almost memorized it by now.

According to the map’s directions, the place he stood on should be Liu Dong Temple. However, looking around, all he saw were fields of wild grass. There were two possibilities: either the map was wrong, or Liu Dong Temple had been hidden.

The likelihood of the map being wrong was minimal. If Liu Dong Temple were just an ordinary historical site, no one would bother to hide it.

But Liu Dong Temple was not ordinary. The energy for summoning the Holy Grail in the Fifth Holy Grail War came from beneath Liu Dong Temple—a large spiritual vein with so much magic underground that anyone would covet it.

Although this magic couldn’t be directly absorbed by magicians, once transformed, it could be used to create magical tools or process magical materials.

Moreover, this magic naturally seeped out on its own, and no one dared touch the deepest layer of underground magic.

Liu Dong Temple was usually managed by the already declining Ryudo family, but now, during the Holy Grail War, the abnormal activity of the magic beneath the entire Fuyuki City made it inappropriate for the already declining Ryudo family to manage this place. ℴℴ𝘮

Liu Dong Temple was indeed the main stage of the Fifth Holy Grail War. Although it was now the Fourth Holy Grail War, as good as no one would come here, except for unexpected occurrences, like the current presence of Su Xiao.

Standing in the wilderness, Su Xiao speculated that Liu Dong Temple was likely hidden by someone. According to information from the original work, there were already exorcism entity barriers set up around Liu Dong Temple. Its sudden disappearance was not surprising.

Furthermore, Liu Dong Temple was the designated location for the Talent Awakening Task. As a Talent Awakening Task with a difficulty level of LV.26, could Liu Dong Temple be ordinary?

The answer was absolutely not. If Liu Dong Temple was easy to find, the task wouldn’t have a 4-day time limit. Given Su Xiao’s pace, 4 hours would have sufficed.

The task difficulty of LV.3 indicated that searching for Liu Dong Temple wasn’t dangerous, while the 4-day time limit suggested it was somewhat challenging.

”Since it’s called a temple, there should be monks, right?”

Su Xiao mumbled to himself, then turned and headed towards Fuyuki City.

If Liu Dong Temple was indeed hidden, there would be two forces capable or qualified to do so—the Magician Association and the Holy Church. Even if not them, it would certainly be related to people from these two factions.

Undoubtedly, these were the two strongest forces in and around Fuyuki City—one managing magicians, the other managing the Holy Grail War.

From the jurisdiction of these two forces, one could see how powerful they were.

There was once a Contractor who caused havoc in the Holy Grail World, only to be killed by the ’Mad Dog’ of the Holy Church.

Compared to the Magician Association, the possibility of the Holy Church hiding Liu Dong Temple was higher. The current Fuyuki City was entirely under the jurisdiction of the Holy Church due to the ongoing Holy Grail War.

Finding people from the Holy Church wasn’t difficult. There were even two individuals involved in this Holy Grail War: Kotomine Rizei and Kirei Kotomine, father and son.

Kotomine Rizei was nominally a priest of Fuyuki City’s ’Kotomine Church,’ but his true identity was a subordinate of the Holy Church’s ’Eighth Sacrament Department,’ assigned by the Holy Church to oversee this Holy Grail War.

As to whether anyone listened to Kotomine Rizei, that was left to chance.

Kirei Kotomine was both Kotomine Rizei’s son and the Master of Assassin in this Holy Grail War.

This father and son duo were both supervisors and Masters. More importantly, they had already allied with Tokiomi Tohsaka, leading to the earlier scene where King of Heroes · Gilgamesh ’killed’ the Assassin.

The Assassin wasn’t dead; it was just part of the three’s plan. Before the Holy Grail War officially began, the three had formed an alliance.

In the eyes of Tokiomi Tohsaka and the old priest Kotomine Rizei, this Holy Grail War was as good as won.

Unfortunately, Kirei Kotomine, the Master of Assassin, was somewhat unique. He wasn’t exactly an evil man or one who walked the evil path; he simply had flawed character. He couldn’t feel beauty in things deemed beautiful by others, but instead couldn’t forget many ugly things. Witnessing others’ misfortune gave him a peculiar satisfaction. Even though this attribute hadn’t fully awoken yet, it wasn’t far from awakening.

If Su Xiao wanted to find out about Liu Dong Temple, seeking out Kotomine Rizei and Kirei Kotomine would be a good move. If that didn’t work, he could look for someone else; there should be enough within four days.

Considering that Kirei Kotomine was a Master involved in the Holy Grail War, it was more prudent to consult old priest Kotomine Rizei first.

Su Xiao returned to Fuyuki City from its outskirts. After a convoluted journey, the sky began to lighten, reaching dawn.

The entire Fuyuki City began to awaken. The first to open were breakfast shops. After a busy night, Su Xiao was starving. He turned his head to look at Matou Gan Ye; this guy was too conspicuous. Entering a breakfast shop was out of the question, as was walking openly on the streets.

He instructed Bubu Wang to wait in a small alley and randomly picked a breakfast shop to buy a lot of food.

More than ten minutes later, Su Xiao sat on a rooftop of a residential building, holding a rice ball. Behind him was Bubu Wang with his mouth full of food. Further back was Sakura Matou, cradling a white bun with both hands, dryly chewing on it, and rolling her eyes in desperation.

The reason for dryly chewing the bun was because the other food was closer to Su Xiao, and Sakura didn’t dare to reach for it, while the bun was somewhat further from Su Xiao.

Ignoring Sakura, who was rolling her eyes in desperation, Su Xiao held a rice ball in one hand and a map in the other.

”Is the Kotomine Church here? Not far from the Tosaka family. As expected, the two families had interactions before the start of the Holy Grail.”

Casually, Su Xiao saw Sakura Matou desperately rolling her eyes. He picked up a bottle of water and tossed it in front of her, turning away and ignoring her.

Sakura Matou hesitated for a moment before picking up the water bottle. With her currently weak body, she couldn’t even twist open the cap.

”Bu... Bu... Bu... Please...”

Sakura Matou asked Bubu Wang for help. Bubu Wang took the bottle, deftly unscrewing the cap with his front paw.

Seeing the cap unscrew, Sakura’s face unexpectedly showed a smile.

”Roar～”

Matou Gan Ye growled lowly, picking up a bottle of water and crushed it with a squeeze, then handed the crushed bottle to Sakura Matou.
