Chapter 658: Chapter 52: Clown’s Attack

Half an hour later, a van stopped in front of the auction house. An advertisement on the back window read: ’24-Hour Sewer Service.’

Creak, the sound of a heavy door opening echoed as National Foot Elder Two was the first to jump out of the van.

”Big brother, are you sure there’s no problem? You know Brother Ruthless’s temper somewhat.”

”There shouldn’t be a problem. Compared to Brother Ruthless, the Red Clown is even worse. That guy is different from us...”

National Foot Boss quickly shut his mouth, seemingly afraid of revealing something.

”Big brother, the escape route is all planned out.”

”Yes, let’s go see Brother Ruthless.”

National Foot Elder Two flashed a mischievous grin.

”He’s already here. Look over there.”

National Foot Boss raised his head. The other two looked towards the auction house, where Su Xiao was standing at the entrance.

The three brothers hesitated for a moment before finally walking towards Su Xiao.

”What’s going on...?”

National Foot Elder Three sized up the row of sandbags at the entrance and the gang members holding automatic rifles or rocket launchers behind them.

”Come inside and talk.”

Su Xiao, with Dragon Slash hanging at his waist, noted it was now 8:30, only half an hour before the Red Clown was expected to attack.

The National Team Brothers cautiously followed Su Xiao, who suddenly stopped at the entrance of the auction house, his gaze fixed on the darkness in the distance.

”Did the time move up? That’s just like the Clown’s style.”

”What?”

The three brothers looked puzzled.

”That.”

Su Xiao pointed into the darkness, where faint footsteps could be heard.

”What... on earth is that? Humans?”

National Foot Boss frowned at the shadowy figure, feeling a vague sense of foreboding.

”I won’t explain the details to you. Prepare to defend the auction house. If we lose it, both you and I will face an all attribute -3 penalty.”

As Su Xiao finished speaking, a gunshot echoed from the rooftop of the auction house, and a humanoid creature in the darkness was already shattered, blue blood splattering from the darkness.

”Brethren, seize this place. It will become our breeding ground. There is plentiful water here (language of Dark Continent),”

An unknown creature, three meters tall, stepped out of the darkness, with other unknown creatures huddled behind it.

”Damn. The Red Clown is really attacking the auction house.”

The National Team Brothers stood in a line, taking up combat stances. There was no need for Su Xiao to explain any further. It was all too clear.

[Tip: The auction house is about to be attacked by creatures from the Dark Continent. Please defend the auction house as quickly as possible. If the auction house is breached, the main quest will fail.]

As soon as the Reincarnation Paradise tip appeared, all Contractors realized the severity of the situation. The Red Clown was being cursed out in the Derived World Contact Platform, with even Basen and Mr. A, who previously defended him, caught in the crossfire.

At that moment, Mr. A was lurking not far from the auction house but dared not show himself.

Not only Mr. A, but most Contractors also gathered around the auction house, observing. As soon as the tip appeared, they all rushed towards the auction house.

”Roar!!”

A dense series of roars echoed as a large group of unknown creatures charged out from the dark streets. Some slower Contractors were immediately surrounded, and in an instant, half of the dozens of Contractors were engulfed by the unknown creatures.

These unknown creatures seemed to appear out of nowhere, not pre-hidden in the nearby streets.

”Get out of the way!”

A brawny man wielding a war hammer swung it with all his might, smashing an unknown creature into pulp. But these humanoid creatures remained fearless, and their claws tore through his defense, ripping his flesh with each swipe.

Splatter, splatter.

Blood and flesh flew as dozens of unknown creatures surrounded the war hammer-wielding man, clawing and biting at him from all sides, paying no heed to his attacks. Such a situation was utterly hopeless.

A few seconds later, after smashing a few unknown creatures, this Second Tier Contractor was torn apart. The unknown creatures began snatching up the hammer-wielder’s corpse, devouring it until nothing was left but a pool of blood and a Scarlet Card glinting ominously—a card that shouldn’t have appeared but nonetheless did.

This scene played out around the auction house. Seconds later, only thirty-one Contractors broke through the encirclement, half of them injured. The other Contractors were swallowed up in a sea of thousands of unknown creatures, unable to escape even if they didn’t head toward the auction house.

Su Xiao surveyed the situation. Surrounded on all sides, the auction house had become the only line of defense.

As he retreated into the auction house, the National Team Brothers followed him, and those who broke through the encirclement fled inside the auction house too.

The continuous gunfire from the rooftop belonged to Vini’s turret. Her firepower was extraordinarily fierce, shattering unknown creatures one after another. In less than half a minute, she had killed over a hundred monsters.

From above, Vini ejected an empty clip, her fair arm leaving a blur as she loaded a new one.

She pulled the bolt of an oversized sniper rifle, her slender fingers quickly squeezing the trigger.

Bang, bang, bang...

The impact of each shot reverberated, blowing her two blue braids back, with orange-yellow shell casings falling at her feet.

”Die, hahaha...”

Vini laughed maniacally, unrestrained and wild, though her laughter was drowned beneath the barrage of gunfire.

She forgot her troubles in the storm of bullets, the past misfortunes, the once bloodstained hands amidst a sea of corpses.

Killing was her distraction from any worries, the more she killed, the more numb she became, and the more her troubles faded away.

Vini’s firepower was undeniably strong, but it couldn’t hold back the endless legion of unknown creatures attacking from all sides; there were simply too many.

After Su Xiao and the others retreated into the auction house, the gang members guarding the entrance nearly instantly lost their positions.

”Help us!”

”Is this a nightmare?”

”Ah!! My hand.”

Agonized screams and the sounds of flesh tearing resounded continuously. Witnessing this, Su Xiao’s expression grew grim; the situation was more precarious than anticipated.

He had confidence in breaking through, but defending the auction house seemed improbable, primarily due to the overwhelming number of unknown creatures and numerous points needing defense.

This auction house was just a concrete and steel structure. Not to mention the front and back doors, dealing with dozens of windows alone was daunting.

Su Xiao excelled at combat, but territory defense was not his forte; no one could be good at everything.

”We’re doomed this time.”

A Contractor, missing an arm from a bite, looked pale, as the situation changed too quickly, leaving him unprepared.

”Is there a Barrier Master or similar class here?”

National Foot Boss shouted, but no one responded, likely because there wasn’t one.

By now, unknown creatures were at the main door of the auction house. Contractors understood the severity; allowing these creatures in wouldn’t just mean mission failure—they’d all die.

About a dozen Contractors rushed to block the main entrance, while others moved to the second floor or back door, preventing unknown creatures from breaking in from windows or rear entrances. The auction house’s first floor had no windows.

”No choice but to ’cut some losses.’”

A female Contractor stood still, sporting a Mohawk and clad in a black leather jacket.

She was known as Fans Girl, a member of the Hunter Alliance, notorious within Reincarnation Paradise for frequently killing other Contractors to obtain Scarlet Cards.

Painfully, she took out a Purple Quality scroll. After a moment’s hesitation, she opened the scroll.
