Chapter 655: Chapter 49: Allies?

”Go catch him.”

Su Xiao contacted Cheap Ji. Upon receiving this order, Cheap Ji was stunned. His first reaction was that he had offended Su Xiao, who was now sending him to his death.

Cheap Ji, known for his fear of death, immediately dispatched his subordinates to catch Feitan. In addition to notifying his subordinates, he also informed Kurapika, because he disliked the ’Nostella Family.’ Kurapika was a bodyguard for the ’Nostella Family.’

Dozens of gang members rushed out of the auction house, heading straight for where Feitan was, including Kurapika.

Seeing Kurapika’s figure on the surveillance footage, Su Xiao shook his head. He initially intended for Kurapika to deal with Franklin, but it was fine if he went for Feitan, as long as Kurapika could stall or kill one of the Travel Group’s combatants.

This might be a trap set by the leader Chrollo. Su Xiao and Kurapika didn’t know each other, and the latter seemed willing to ’step on a landmine.’

Before the gang members and Kurapika enclosed him, Feitan had already killed those few gang members and turned to escape into the night city.

”Escaped too cleanly.”

Su Xiao felt something was wrong but couldn’t pinpoint what it was. The situation tonight could only be described as bizarre.

Boom!

A loud bang came from downstairs, and the phone beside him rang almost simultaneously.

Su Xiao grabbed the phone and walked outside while answering the call.

”Still alive?”

Su Xiao’s question received no response. After a long while, Bick’s panting voice came through.

”Still alive, but I’ve temporarily lost my freedom.”

”As long as you’re alive. The other Ten Old Man died?”

”They should be... dead.”

Bick sighed, feeling as if he had become a traitor.

”As long as you can communicate with the outside, the Zoldyck Family wouldn’t dare go there to kill you, even if they had the guts.”

A smile appeared on Su Xiao’s face. It was true that the Zoldyck Family was infamous, but the place where Bick was staying was somewhere the Zoldyck Family wouldn’t dare to tread. Even if it meant ruining their reputation, they wouldn’t dare go there to kill, unless the whole Zoldyck Family had tired of living.

At this time, Bick was staying at the V5 organization’s branch on the ’Invaded Lubian Continent.’ V5 is an organization of the United Nations, while Zoldyck is merely a famous assassin family; they’re not on the same level.

Even though Maha Zoldyck’s power is terrifying, he wouldn’t dare enter the V5 branch to kill. Absolutely wouldn’t.

As for how Bick managed to enter the V5 organization’s branch, it all had to do with the Cyclops’ eyeball. The V5 organization was interested in it. Bick offered it unconditionally and took the opportunity to contribute four-fifths of his wealth.

Perhaps the V5 organization didn’t expect Bick to be so sensible, granting him a minor position. This delighted Bick, who jumped from being a gang member to a small official in the V5 organization, albeit a very small one.

Moreover, the V5 organization plans to change strategy, moving away from the ’cutting crops’ method. They plan to secretly support Bick as a puppet to orderly manage the gangs, whose existence aids the V5 organization in managing several continents.

”You’re in charge of the auction house matters. I’ve just taken over things here recently.”

Now, Bick, riding a wave of success, is less inclined to continue involving himself in auction matters, which is beneficial for Su Xiao. Currently, Bick is calling the shots at the auction house, and even with the V5 power’s intervention, the Ten Old Man’s power remains Bick’s. That point cannot change, especially.

”Don’t forget the ’final payment.’”

”I’ve already prepared it for you. Rest assured.”

The call ended, and Su Xiao hurriedly walked towards the lower levels of the auction house, where a fight had occurred, albeit a brief one.

When Su Xiao arrived, Zeno and Silva stood among the rubble; the room’s window glass shattered, and bloodstains on the ground.

”Who was the enemy? The leader of the Travel Group?”

Su Xiao squatted beside the bloodstain, noting the considerable blood loss; the intruder was at least lightly wounded.

”It was a member of the Travel Group named Franklin. As for the purpose...”

”To deliver a message, perhaps, informing you that the Ten Old Man is dead. Your employer is dead, so your commission ends here.”

”Oh?”

Zeno looked at Su Xiao with a smile. If his identity as an assassin were cast aside, Zeno might be considered a kind and humorous old man.

”Though I’m not sure how you guessed, that’s about right. Nine of the Ten Old Man are dead, and the remaining one has been absorbed by the V5 organization, hence no longer considered one of the Ten Old Man. So, our employer is effectively dead, and the task, therefore, ends.

But how did that Ten Old Man who fled to the V5 organization know someone was planning to assassinate him? Could it be that our family’s information was leaked?”

The smile on Zeno’s face faded.

”Maha Zoldyck, Illumi Zoldyck, and Coate Zoldyck accepted the commission to kill all the Ten Old Man. This isn’t a secret, just like how Chrollo knew you accepted the commission to kill him. How did he know you accepted the commission? And immediately hired your family? An infosec within the Zoldyck Family?”

Hearing Su Xiao’s words, Zeno was slightly embarrassed. It was true that intelligence within the family is shared, but how it reached the Travel Group’s leader, he doesn’t know. Yet what’s clear is that the commission details involving him and Silva were leaked, leading to the opposing side hiring their family to kill their employer Ten Old Man.

”It’s a headache, forget it. In any case, the mission has ended. See you around.”

Zeno waved at Su Xiao, preparing to leave.

”If you’re interested, you can visit our Zoldyck Family as a guest, consider it compensation for this commission.”

Zeno and Silva walked away. With the Zoldyck Family withdrawing from the auction’s affairs, it wasn’t necessarily a great thing, but it wasn’t bad news either.

The main issue now is what exactly the Travel Group Leader is plotting, with no clues or points of reference. Su Xiao can only temporarily ignore this issue.

Anyway, the Travel Group’s objective is to seek revenge on him, so they would definitely come to the auction house.

While Su Xiao was deep in thought, Black Mary ran into the room, breathless.

”Mister Bai Ye, a girl is looking for you. She says she’s from your hometown, and it’s urgent.”

”Hometown?”

Su Xiao pondered momentarily and quickly realized something.

”Take me to her.”

Su Xiao wasn’t from this world, and if it was someone from his hometown, it could only mean one type of person.

Hastening to the first floor, Su Xiao saw a blue-haired girl surrounded by gang members, with a few bloodstains on her body.

”Who are you?”

Su Xiao didn’t recognize her but felt a vague familiarity.

”I’m... the ’Cannon’ who once attacked you.”

No sooner had the girl spoken than Dragon Slash appeared in Su Xiao’s hand.

”Purpose.”

It couldn’t be that the other party had come to die here. The other party wasn’t a contractor for the Ten Old Man faction and might even be a contractor for the Travel Group. Her appearance here suggested a possible massive shift in the situation or perhaps an enemy’s trap.

”Let’s talk somewhere private.”

The girl was not lightly injured, making it unlikely she had come to assassinate Su Xiao. Besides, Su Xiao wasn’t afraid of someone trying to assassinate him.

Under the envious gazes of the gang members, Su Xiao led the girl into an empty room, always maintaining a 3-meter distance from her, a range suitable for responding to sudden situations and attacking.

”Can you talk now?”

”Yes.” The blue-haired girl, Vini, took a deep breath, habitually grabbing her over one-meter-long braid to swing it.

”Here’s the situation. After I became a temporary member of the Phantom Troupe, my main task was to steal the auction items. Just half an hour ago, for unknown reasons, my main task was forcibly changed by Paradise to participate in the auction. At the same time the task was forcibly changed, someone suddenly attacked me. As for who that person was, you know without me saying. Two cunning old foxes are teaming up, so let’s collaborate as well to deal with those endless creatures coming from who knows where.”
