Chapter 547: Chapter 35: Hostage

The howling wind blew fiercely, and the explosive firelight illuminated the Sand Ninja Village as if it were broad daylight.

Deidara and Gaara clashed, but their battlefield was not on the ground; it was high in the sky. Gaara also possessed flying ability, with Chakra-infused sand that could float in mid-air, though the exact principle was unknown.

The two in the sky were momentarily at a stalemate. Even if Deidara were defeated, Sasori on the outskirts of Sand Ninja Village wasn’t one to be trifled with.

In his charge forward, Su Xiao no longer paid attention to the two above. Not far from him, Temari had already started waving that big folding fan.

”Kamaitachi.”

The over-a-meter-long big iron fan swung, and before Temari appeared a storm in mid-air, densely packed with vacuum blades.

The strong wind had no lethality; it was the vacuum blades hidden within that were the real killers.

Su Xiao lowered his body, exerting strength from his feet to prevent being blown away. His jet-black pupils slightly contracted as he was capturing the vacuum blades hidden in the strong wind.

”One, two, three... fifteen.”

After sensing the number of vacuum blades, Su Xiao held Dragon Slash horizontally in front of him. A total of fifteen vacuum blades were hidden within the strong wind coming at him.

As the vacuum blades slashed towards him, Su Xiao’s neck and cheeks faintly tingled — his perception was warning him.

The Blue Steel Shadow energy enveloped Dragon Slash, and Su Xiao slashed several times into the air.

Clang, clang, clang...

Sparks erupted on the blade of Dragon Slash, with one vacuum blade grazing past Su Xiao’s cheek and embedding itself into the stone wall behind him.

With a flick of the blade, Su Xiao slowly approached Temari. Although his pace wasn’t fast, Temari didn’t dare take a single step back.

”This is... impossible.”

Temari was visibly stunned. She knew Kamaitachi well. It was normal for the move to be dodged or defended against, but this was the first time she’d seen the vacuum blades slashed away.

Su Xiao continued to advance slowly. With Temari’s combat style, if he got within close range, she wouldn’t last more than half a minute before dying.

Temari fixed her gaze on Su Xiao, and just as she thought to retreat, an inexplicable sense of crisis appeared.

’I’d die if I retreated now.’

This thought seemed branded in her brain, so she stayed in place as the distance between them gradually lessened.

Temari’s judgment was accurate. If she showed a moment of carelessness, Su Xiao, using ’Shave,’ could close in within half a second.

Su Xiao kept advancing step by step. Cold sweat seeped from Temari’s forehead, as the enemy seemed full of openings, yet no matter how long she searched, she couldn’t find the right moment to strike.

The atmosphere was oppressively tense, and Temari’s heart seemed gripped by an invisible giant hand.

”Ninja Art: Wind Sand Dust.”

Unable to bear it any longer, Temari fiercely waved the big folding fan, a whirlwind of yellow sand surging towards Su Xiao.

In front of him was a hazy yellow, yet a smile appeared on Su Xiao’s face.

”Hmph.”

A painful groan emanated from the yellow sand. When the sand settled, Temari stood not far away, a gash appeared on her chest clothing from which a small amount of blood oozed, revealing the fair skin of her chest, leaving Temari overexposed.

Cupping her hand over her chest, Temari’s eyes trembled. As a ninja skilled in mid-range combat, close-quarters Taijutsu was her biggest weakness, and now she was trapped.

On closer inspection, the two were encircled by a barely noticeable ’barrier,’ formed by Boundary Lines utilizing nearby buildings, shaped like a large octagonal cage.

Earlier, when Su Xiao approached, Temari had focused all her attention on him, inevitably overlooking her surroundings.

”Temari.”

A charging Kankuro shouted, followed by a dozen Sand shinobi, all his trusted subordinates.

Seeing the arrivals, Temari’s face lit up with joy.

Boom!

Suddenly, an explosion erupted, yellow sand splattering as a Sand shinobi was blown sky-high. Having stepped directly on a bomb, his legs were blasted higher than his torso.

The sand ninja, blown in half, landed screaming incessantly, and everyone’s steps, including Kankuro, halted.

”Don’t come near; it’s the explosives set by that enemy in the air.”

Temari’s judgment was wrong. These were alchemy bombs Su Xiao had placed nearby; hidden in the sand, they exploded instantly upon stepping on, leaving no time for defense.

Kankuro and the others faced a dilemma: not supporting Temari meant she’d soon be defeated, but if they did support, they might be blown to pieces.

”Earth Jutsu: Earthquake Tremble.”

A Sand shinobi placed a hand on the ground, causing the earth to tremble a few times before stopping. It seemed they realized the bombs in the sand were triggered by contact.

After the tremors, dead silence ensued—no explosions followed.

Su Xiao reactivated the alchemy bombs and ignored the other Sand shinobi.

Boom!

Another explosion sounded; a sand ninja stepped on a mine, but he dodged skillfully, breaking only a leg bone.

Seeing this, Kankuro stopped approaching, took off a puppet from his back, preparing to support Temari from afar.

The other Sand shinobi followed suit, launching Earth and Fire Jutsus at Su Xiao.

A transparent shield appeared on Su Xiao’s body’s surface. With ’Shelter’ activated, he charged straight for Temari.

Su Xiao charged fiercely, and Temari immediately counterattacked. Forming hand seals was now too late; she could only use seal-less jutsu.

”Big Kamaitachi.”

Big Kamaitachi was an enhanced version of Kamaitachi, with stronger wind pressure and more vacuum blades.

Clang, clang, clang...

The sounds of clashing metal echoed as dust billowed around Su Xiao, not only from vacuum blades but from the Sand shinobi’s attacks as well.

Whoosh~

A figure burst through the dust — it was Su Xiao, having withstood the Big Kamaitachi and three other jutsus.

Cracks filled the shield surrounding him, on the verge of shattering, yet it didn’t matter anymore as he was three meters from Temari.

Behind Temari was the barrier formed by Boundary Lines, leaving her with nowhere to retreat.

”Secret Technique...”

Just as Temari lifted the folding fan, Su Xiao’s blade struck it.

Clang~

Dragon Slash left a blue scar in the air, and the over-a-meter-long ninja fan broke in response.

The ninja fan wasn’t meant for close combat, so Dragon Slash, sharp as it was, cut it down instantly.

Temari gritted her silver teeth, her eyes filled with helplessness, while Kankuro watched anxiously from a short distance.

”Temari!”

Slash.

The long knife cleaved, leaving a gash deep to the bone on Temari’s collarbone.

Su Xiao could have easily slit Temari’s throat but chose not to; this woman was valuable.

Getting cut by Su Xiao was no small matter. Blue Steel Shadow energy invaded Temari’s body, causing excruciating pain.

”Ah~”

Temari cried out in agony, with her Chakra threatening to go berserk. Su Xiao seized the moment to dart behind her, gripping her neck with one hand. Temari’s pallid face appeared pitiful, devoid of the poise expected from a female ninja.

The Sand shinobi, ready to launch ninjutsu attacks on Su Xiao, were halted by Kankuro — any more attacks would risk harming Temari.

Hearing Temari’s scream, Gaara, entangled in battle with Deidara above, cast a sidelong glance at the battlefield below.

At this moment, Su Xiao had Temari’s neck in his grip, Dragon Slash’s blade pressed against Temari’s pale neck, drawing it slowly. With the sharpness of Dragon Slash, Temari’s throat skin broke instantly, and blood smeared across the blade.

”Huff... huff...”

Temari’s eyes widened, her breaths coming in gasping gulps, as fear enveloped her.
