Chapter 503: Chapter 75: So That’s How It Is

The difficulty of unlocking new skills is increasing, but so is their power, as can be seen from the Spirit Shadow physique.

”Unlock.”

A brief sense of teleportation came over him. Upon seeing the scene before him, Su Xiao was unsurprised.

”Here again.”

Su Xiao stood inside a majestic hall, with six piles of rubble within it where six statues once stood.

One pile of rubble quivered, and a blue phantom floated out. It was Su Xiao’s Enlightenment Master, Marvin Hwaltz.

”Hmm? You came so quickly.”

Marvin Hwaltz was somewhat surprised at Su Xiao’s speed of strengthening.

”You’ve become much stronger compared to before; seems like you’re here to inherit that ability.”

”What ability?”

Marvin Hwaltz gave a mysterious smile.

”You’ll find out soon.”

Marvin Hwaltz floated towards the depths of the hall. For some reason, Su Xiao had a ’foreboding’ feeling. He still remembered the excruciating pain when he acquired the ’Spirit Shadow physique.’

”There’s something I’d like to ask you.”

Su Xiao followed behind Marvin Hwaltz.

”What is it?”

”Have you heard of the Sun Woman?”

Marvin Hwaltz stopped in his tracks.

”You’ve seen that vine on Devour Island? She didn’t chase you?”

”I have, we sort of collaborated once.”

Hearing Su Xiao’s words, Marvin Hwaltz seemed quite surprised.

”The Black Forest rioted?”

”Yes.”

Marvin Hwaltz seemed to know quite a bit about Devour Island.

”The Sun Woman? That was a long time ago, something like several hundred years. I encountered a vine when I went to the red soil area of Devour Island to find a material. She claimed to be a god and wanted me to worship her. Later, we ’discussed’ matters regarding godhood.”

Needless to say, Marvin Hwaltz was the Shadow of Annihilation Law who uprooted the Sun Woman and swung her around a few times.

”You didn’t kill her?”

Although Su Xiao hadn’t interacted with Marvin Hwaltz for long, the latter’s aura couldn’t be faked.

”That idiot knelt down and begged me not to kill her. Since I was in a hurry, I let her go.”

Su Xiao looked at Marvin Hwaltz in surprise.

”But I did take something from inside her.”

”What was it?”

”More than ninety percent of her energy. I originally intended to take it after she recovered, but then I was ambushed by mages.”

Su Xiao thought to himself, of course, Marvin Hwaltz wouldn’t let the Sun Woman go; she was just a resource to him.

No wonder the Sun Woman didn’t dare make a move against Su Xiao. It seems she’s scared of the Shadow of Annihilation Law.

”When you’re strong enough, you can also go to her and seize the energy. Plant energy is a good nutrient, it nourishes Blue Steel Shadow energy.”

Su Xiao was slightly confused. Blue Steel Shadow can devour other energies? He had never discovered this before.

”Don’t be surprised, you’ll soon acquire this ability, provided you’re still alive.”

Su Xiao was even more puzzled, but Marvin Hwaltz did not continue explaining.

The two walked towards the depths of the hall, and soon a pale blue pool appeared before them.

The ’pool’ wasn’t filled with water, but a pale blue liquid, with arcs of electricity flickering on the surface.

”This is...”

Su Xiao squatted before the pool, feeling a familiar energy within.

”This is the purest Blue Steel Shadow energy, which can help you quickly restore mana.”

Marvin Hwaltz sat cross-legged in front of the pool, looking at Su Xiao.

”What you are about to grasp is the core ability of the Shadow of Annihilation Law. It’s because of this ability that the Shadow of Annihilation Law can grow strong so quickly.”

Organizing his thoughts, Marvin Hwaltz continued:

”In terms of where you come from, one of the characteristic abilities of the Shadow of Annihilation Law should be called the Intelligence attribute. You must be curious why the Blue Steel Shadow, clearly a close combat type, would require the Intelligence attribute.”

Su Xiao nodded. Besides enhancing mana and perception, the Intelligence attribute had few uses — yet it was the Shadow of Annihilation Law’s main attribute.

”The Intelligence attribute is to carry the ability you’re about to grasp, which enhances Blue Steel Shadow energy. As the core ability of the Shadow of Annihilation Law, there’s naturally a way for it to strengthen quickly.”

Marvin Hwaltz pointed at the ’pool’ before them, where the density of Blue Steel Shadow energy could only be described as terrifying.

”Jump in, and if you climb out alive, you’ll be a true Shadow of Annihilation Law—one that strikes fear into enemies.”

Su Xiao furrowed his brow, feeling that jumping in might lead to death.

”What’s the mortality rate?”

”About 85%, otherwise why do you think there are so few Shadows of Annihilation Law?”

This terrifying mortality rate left Su Xiao speechless, but having developed the Shadow of Annihilation Law to this extent, giving up was clearly not an option.

”Earlier, I wondered why inheriting the Shadow of Annihilation Law was so simple.”

Marvin Hwaltz laughed heartily.

”Do you really think that the value of that broken ring equates to the Shadow of Annihilation Law? The Shadow of Annihilation Law chose you. Its successor is hard to find, not due to a lack of innate talent but a lack of courage—courage to make enemies. After becoming the Shadow of Annihilation Law, all mages become your enemies, and most successors voluntarily give up.”

Marvin Hwaltz gestured at the pool, signaling for him to jump.

At this point, the only option was to jump unless Su Xiao gave up the Shadow of Annihilation Law to choose another profession. If he did that, he’d be dead soon anyway—after all, he was a Hunter and needed to fight violators.

”This is how all Shadows of Annihilation Law are deceived; accept your fate.”

Seeing Su Xiao’s conflicted expression, Marvin Hwaltz recalled his own experience. Before jumping, he ’affectionately’ cursed all nearby Shadows of Annihilation Law.

Yet now, he didn’t regret leaping, even if facing death.

”I...”

Su Xiao leaped up, as not jumping equaled a slow death, while jumping granted a chance of survival.

”I forgot to mention, the pool is very deep and can drown you.”

”Damn!”

With a splash, Su Xiao plunged into the liquidized Blue Steel Shadow energy.

Glug glug glug.

A bubble floated up, and the pool returned to calm, as if no one had ever jumped in.

”So bubbles do come up.”

A smile appeared on Marvin Hwaltz’s face.

”Disciple, don’t die. The 85% mortality rate applies to ordinary soul strength; with your soul strength, the survival rate is over 50%. Hmm... seems like I forgot to mention something important.”

Marvin Hwaltz closed his eyes to wait for Su Xiao to swim or float up.

Inside the pool, Su Xiao slowly sank, his black hair floating in the pale blue liquid.

Su Xiao’s eyes were tightly shut, his body motionless, slowly sinking as a seismic change occurred within him.

The depleted mana was instantly restored, the replenished mana quickly converting into Blue Steel Shadow energy.

The Blue Steel Shadow energy gradually formed a sphere near Su Xiao’s heart. This sphere wasn’t for storing Blue Steel Shadow energy; it had another purpose.

Mana was consumed quickly and replenished, the new Blue Steel Shadow energy continuing to build the energy sphere.

Mana restored, transforming into Blue Steel Shadow energy, which built the energy sphere. This process repeated, making the energy sphere more intricate and increasingly terrifying in power.

Glug glug

Su Xiao exhaled a bubble, striving to prevent the Blue Steel Shadow energy within from running out of control. If it did, he’d be done for.

Su Xiao sank to the bottom of the pool, with ten minutes remaining. If he couldn’t construct the energy sphere within this time, he would float up rather than swim up.

Floating up would mean Su Xiao was dead, highlighting the dangerousness of this process.

While building the energy sphere, the Blue Steel Shadow energy in him operated in a unique manner, unexpectedly passing through the brain—something that had never happened before.
