Chapter 516: Chapter Four: Breakdown in Negotiations?

Hearing this female voice, Qing in front of the cell lowered his head and took a step back.

At the entrance of the dungeon stood a figure. The pitch-black dungeon made the sunlight appear particularly glaring, and only the silhouette of the person at the door could be vaguely seen.

Brown long hair appeared to have a fluffy halo under the sunlight, and from that voluptuous figure, one could deduce this woman’s general youth.

Mei Terumī, a female ninja with powerful strength, masters two kinds of Bloodline Limits (Corrosion Release, Boil Release), is a mature and dignified woman, and will soon become the Fifth Mizukage, currently the leader of the Peacemaker Faction.

At this moment, the Hidden Mist Village is in chaos. The Fourth Mizukage Yagura had just died not long ago, and Yagura was not only the Mizukage, but he was also the Three-Tailed Human Pillar Power.

The existence of a Jinchuriki, like a ’nuclear weapon’, is greatly valued by every Great Ninja Village. Most of the Jinchuriki are under strict surveillance. Yagura, being the Three-Tailed Jinchuriki and simultaneously becoming the Hokage, demonstrated his ability.

Now that Yagura is dead, but the Three-Tails inside him is not, it is now in a state of release to nature.

The Hidden Mist Village lost the Three-Tails, which made the ’Warring Faction’ more dissatisfied. Coupled with Mei Terumī’s pursuit of peace, the village has split into two factions.

One faction is the Mei Terumī-led ’Peacemaker Faction’, who wants to stop the internal chaos in the Hidden Mist Village, open channels for external communication, and trade with other great nations; otherwise, the Land of Water will be too impoverished being situated on an island.

The Land of Water has few resources and doesn’t trade with the outside, making it an extremely bizarre country.

While the other four great countries were at war, it had internal strife; when the four countries were at peace, it had internal strife; when conflicts arose again among the four countries, it still had internal strife. It was a case of ’you fight your battles, I fight mine; no one stops anyone, and anyone who does will be fought.’

Even during the Third Great Ninja War, the Hidden Mist Village only occasionally intervened, taking advantage of benefits when possible or retreating when not. The inherent geographical advantage ensured that other ninja villages were not active in attacking, plus its perennial internal strife made the combat strength of the Mist Ninja strong, and most importantly, the Land of Water is very poor.

Who would want to attack a country both poor and with strong military capabilities? The answer is no one.

The Land of Water is usually like ’don’t mess with me, I’m very troublesome to deal with, and extremely poor as well.’

Considering such a country, the impact of internal strife is self-evident. When the Mizukage was in power, it was manageable; now, without a Mizukage, it is even more chaotic.

Aside from Mei Terumī’s ’Peacemaker Faction’, the Hidden Mist Village also has the ’Warring Faction’ who also wish to stop the civil war and actively plunder other countries.

Both sides aim to stop the civil war, but the matter of sovereignty leads them to a stalemate; neither side gives an inch on the position of Mizukage, thus the civil war continues.

Mei Terumī’s side has strong top-tier combat effectiveness. Her own combat strength is substantial, with the assistance of people like Qing and Chōjūrō.

The Warring Faction has no leader at present. Their original leader was the Fourth Mizukage. The infamous title of the Blood Mist came from them or their predecessors.

Although these people lack top-tier military prowess, they are numerous, making up 70% of the Hidden Mist Village’s ninjas.

Now Mei Terumī’s predicament is having enough strength but lacking enough ninja support. The Daimyo of the Land of Water remains an aloof observer of the tiger’s fight on the mountain, not involving himself in the internal strife of the ninja village at all.

Mei Terumī certainly can’t kill all the Warring Faction members; should she attempt such a thing, the Hidden Mist Village would become unprecedentedly weak.

In such circumstances, power like Su Xiao’s, who doesn’t belong to the Hidden Mist Village or any other ninja village, becomes valuable.

However, Su Xiao’s ’glorious achievement’ of assassinating the Fourth Mizukage naturally makes Mei Terumī vigilant of him.

Su Xiao understands this point well; if cooperation is to occur, it will surely be a relationship of mutual exploitation. He needs to get out of his current plight as quickly as possible, at least to escape the prison.

Mei Terumī walked into the dungeon, with two strands of her brown hair draping across her chest.

”It’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Mei Terumī.”

Mei Terumī had only heard of Su Xiao, never seen him.

”Bai Ye.”

Su Xiao looked Mei Terumī up and down. If this woman were to come close, she would undoubtedly be the one to die, since her close combat ability isn’t that strong, which can be seen from the original work.

If there’s a distance, Mei Terumī could easily burn him to ashes.

Currently, Mei Terumī was about three meters away from Su Xiao. If he suddenly drew his sword, he could likely slay her on the spot.

Of course, Su Xiao wouldn’t do that. Even if he could kill her, he wouldn’t be able to leave alive.

”You guy...”

Qing suddenly stepped in front of Mei Terumī, being a Perception Type, Su Xiao’s gaze towards her made him realize something was wrong.

”Qing, no need to be tense.”

Mei Terumī signaled Qing to move aside.

”Lady Mei Terumī, he just now...”

”I sensed it.”

Mei Terumī slightly narrowed her beautiful eyes. She knew well how strong Su Xiao’s close combat ability was, with the sword scars on the Fourth Mizukage’s corpse being the best evidence.

”What was your purpose in assassinating the Fourth?”

Mei Terumī asked.

”Purpose? I was hired.”

Su Xiao had already thought of the reason for assassinating the Fourth Mizukage.

”Who hired you?”

”Not sure.”

Su Xiao’s answer left Mei Terumī a bit dissatisfied.

”Since you won’t say, then stay here a while longer.”

Mei Terumī turned to leave, and Su Xiao in the cell laughed.

”If you pay me well, I can also help you kill.”

Mei Terumī paused, turning her head slightly to glance at Su Xiao from the corner of her eye.

”I don’t need an assassin, I need loyal subordinates. Let it be, I’m very busy lately, especially at night, having to work late every day.”

Having said that, Mei Terumī and Qing left the dungeon, the door closing and restoring the darkness.

”Increase the manpower, allocate two more Perception Type ninjas, Da Di and Mu He. You don’t have to guard here anymore; there are other tasks.”

Qing’s voice came from outside the dungeon.

”Why, the bastard inside once assassinated the Fourth Mizukage. We must guard here.”

”Right, we will never leave.”

The sound of arguing came from outside the dungeon.

”Under your watch, that guy killed all the prisoners. Stop disgracing yourselves. We make no distinctions on prisoners between factions.”

After a long while, the outside of the dungeon quieted down.

Su Xiao sat inside the cell. The negotiation seemed a failure, but in fact, it had succeeded.

Around ten o’clock at night, Su Xiao in the darkness opened his eyes.

Dragon Slash appeared in his hand, the blade flashed.

Clang, clang.

A crisp sound as the broken iron bars fell to the ground.

Su Xiao walked out of the cell, Bubu Wang following behind, looking surprised as if saying, ’Master, is this okay to just walk out.’

Outside were a dozen or so ninjas, including a few Perception Types.

Su Xiao walked to the entrance of the dungeon, directly pushing open the door, which wasn’t locked at all.

Outside the dungeon, the white moonlight shone on the ground, barely illuminating the surrounding buildings. Su Xiao stood at a location towards the rear side of the Hidden Mist Village.

A dozen ninjas stood on either side of the prison entrance, all with a solemn expression, like ’blind men.’

From Qing’s words earlier, it was clear he had already moved the Warring Faction members away, and now those guarding the dungeon were Mei Terumī’s people. Recalling Mei Terumī’s words, her intentions were obvious.

Su Xiao didn’t know exactly where to go, but soon someone would come to find him.
