Chapter 522: Chapter 10: Ninja Village and the Daimyo

Su Xiao looked around, observing the different expressions on the surrounding people.

The expressionless short and fat manager, the beautiful songstress gently retreating, the cowering laborer, and the silent Anbu.

Thoughts raced through his mind, and Su Xiao decided silently that he couldn’t fight on the ship. He didn’t care about collateral damage, but he couldn’t destroy the ship; otherwise, he couldn’t leave the Land of Water.

A problem emerged. If Su Xiao left this ship, the people on board would immediately set sail to escape.

He glanced sideways at the songstress not far away, and Su Xiao suddenly sprang into action.

He flashed behind the songstress, using one hand to restrain her neck while another hand produced an Alchemy Bomb.

”Taking a hostage, are we?”

The Mist Anbu remained still.

”Let me go, ugh~”

A White sphere was stuffed into Songstress Nao’s mouth. Nao struggled vigorously, but her soft body couldn’t break free from Su Xiao’s grasp.

”If you dare set sail and leave, boom.”

Su Xiao’s fingers extended outward, making a gesture representing an explosion. He released the songstress, slightly triggering the Alchemy Bomb.

Nao clutched her abdomen, the burning sensation inside making her squat down and nod rapidly, indicating that she would definitely not set sail and leave.

Only then did Su Xiao look at the Mist Anbu. The opponent didn’t make a move, which meant two possibilities: either the opponent was very strong and believed Su Xiao couldn’t escape, or the opponent was waiting for reinforcements.

Su Xiao guessed it was the latter; the opponent’s discovery time shouldn’t have been long. If he weren’t about to leave, the opponent wouldn’t have appeared rashly.

As for damaging this ship, the opponent wouldn’t dare.

This ship was marked with the emblem of the Daimyo Mansion, indicating that the songstress was working for the Land of Water’s Daimyo.

The Hidden Mist Village was indeed the military force of the Land of Water, but it wouldn’t openly challenge the Daimyo Mansion. Ninja villages require substantial funds and resources, which are all provided by the Daimyo Mansion. If they offend the Daimyo Mansion, the Hidden Mist Village could only drink the northwest wind.

In fact, the Daimyo in the Naruto World are quite smart, somewhat akin to board chairmen of companies, with the ninja villages as their departments.

The Daimyo Mansion wouldn’t get involved in the wars between ninja villages, as those are pure battles between ninjas. Every ninja village has regulations not to assassinate the enemy nation’s Daimyo.

The hatred between villages is unrelated to the Daimyo, like how the Hidden Mist Village and Konoha could be at war, but the two nations’ Daimyo might not necessarily be enemies.

Ninjas die in batches, but the Daimyo remain the same few, and they even have a hereditary system. This is the advantage of controlling financial power, of course, the Daimyo Mansion also has corresponding military power, but it is never deployed.

This structure ended after the Fourth Ninja World War, which is when the various ninja villages began to develop their economies.

Currently, the Anbu Ninja was stalling for time, waiting for backup.

Realizing this, Su Xiao dashed forward a few paces, stepped onto the ship’s railing, and leaped toward the nearby dock, swiftly disappearing into the crowd.

The Anbu Ninja pursued without hesitation, also preferring not to fight on the ship.

”Quick, set sail.”

The short and fat manager almost screamed, yelling this order.

”No, we can’t.”

Songstress Nao’s breathing was rapid. Although she was unclear about what she had swallowed, she was sure of one thing: setting sail would lead to her immediate death.

”What?”

The short and fat manager’s eyes widened, and his expression turned a bit distorted.

”We can’t set sail. If we do... I’ll die.”

”Huh?”

The short and fat manager was about to lose it. How could they not flee at a time like this?

Unbeknownst to the two, Su Xiao had left other contingencies, like the large wooden box on the ship, which housed Bubu Wang. If they dared set sail, Bubu Wang would break out of the box.

...

On the dock, the Anbu Ninja swiftly navigated the crowd, his nose twitching beneath the mask, an indication of a secret technique he mastered, allowing him to lock onto a person’s scent.

At this moment, he had locked onto Su Xiao’s scent, and it was because of this ability that he managed to find Su Xiao.

”Up ahead, no, he’s already noticed the scent exposure, it’s the left side.”

The Anbu Ninja briskly moved through the residential area near the dock. It was nine in the morning, and almost no one was home because most residents here were laborers or married fisherfolk.

The Anbu Ninja continued tracking Su Xiao’s scent. Just as he rushed past a corner, a sharp glint came stabbing directly at him, the knife tip reflecting a cold light.

Thud.

The Anbu Ninja was pierced through the face, his body convulsed a few times before becoming immobilized.

Su Xiao frowned. That Anbu Ninja wasn’t dead; what he pierced was a Water Clone.

Substitution Technique + Water Clone Technique, two low-level ninjutsu, allowed that Mist Anbu to avoid that dangerous stab.

Combat isn’t just about pitting skills against each other. An ability that can kill the enemy is a good ability, regardless of its level.

With a fling, he sent the Water Clone off the flying knife. It splashed into a puddle upon hitting the ground, and the Anbu’s true body was nowhere in sight.

”Water Jutsu: Hidden Mist Technique.”

From the rooftop of a house, the Anbu Ninja formed a seal with both hands, and a dense fog began to spread around.

The fog thickened, covering Su Xiao’s vision in a white expanse. With his sight obscured, he closed his eyes and tried to sense with his perception force, but the results were minimal. The surrounding dense mist was mixed with Chakra, affecting his senses.

Swish, swish~

The sound of wind-breaking came, along with soft conversations from within the mist.

”Very good.”

”Have they all arrived?”

”Yes, all five are here, ready to use that.”

Su Xiao stood motionless within the dense fog. The voices came from all directions, making it impossible to judge the enemy’s location based on sound.

According to the discussion among those Anbu, a total of five had arrived, but the actual number remained to be verified. This might be a trap to increase Su Xiao’s pressure.

”Water Jutsu: Water Dragon Bullet Technique.”

”Earth Jutsu: Swamp of the Underworld.”

A Water Dragon came charging at him, just as the soil beneath his feet became soft, causing him to sink gradually.

The combination of these two jutsu was flawless. Earth Jutsu restricted movement, while the Water Dragon’s impact made the swamp below even harder to escape.

Boom.

Mud splattered, and a long knife flew into the air, finally falling to the ground.

”Did we get him?”

”The aura has disappeared.”

”His weapon dropped to the ground.”

There were only three Mist Anbu, not five as they claimed.

The three consciously kept a distance from Su Xiao, likely aware of his terrifying close combat ability.

Buzz~

The sound of wire tightening was heard, and all three Mist Anbu simultaneously felt a crisis approaching, causing them to leap up.

Just as the three jumped, one felt a sharp pain in his shoulder as a barely noticeable metal wire embedded itself into his shoulder.

Upon closer inspection, one could see green threads woven between the surrounding residential buildings. These were the Boundary Lines.

Jumping down from a rooftop, Su Xiao flicked his finger, and Dragon Slash flew from the ground, landing in his hand.

He used the Anbu Ninja’s Hidden Mist Technique as cover to set up a ’barrier’ with the Boundary Lines around. Apart from killing him or cutting the Boundary Lines, no one could escape this barrier.

Ding.

A crisp sound was heard—a Mist Anbu Ninja was cleaving at the Boundary Line. Although the direction couldn’t be discerned, Su Xiao could determine the position from the vibration on the Boundary Line. The five fingers wrapped in metal were all tied to the Boundary Line, with each finger representing a direction.𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂
