Chapter 519: Chapter 7: The Pursuit

The raging fire rose, and the entire Hidden Mist Village was bathed in a crimson glow from the flames.

”Ah!!”

A ’Fireman’ burst out from a wooden house, screaming miserably before collapsing to the ground, but his body continued to burn with flames.

”Water Jutsu: Water Formation Wall,”

”Water Jutsu: Water Chaos Wave.”

...

One after another Water Jutsu was used, and the fire that had spread for only a dozen seconds was extinguished. The Mist Ninja were proficient in Water Jutsu, and there were many ninjas in the village.

Most of the ninjas leapt onto the rooftops, still unclear about what was happening.

”Assemble.”

”The enemy is in the back street.”

”Prepare to engage.”

The long-term internal conflict had given the Mist Ninja a terrifyingly efficient mobility. They extinguished the fire in a dozen seconds, determined Su Xiao’s approximate position in less than thirty seconds, and began to pursue him around forty seconds.

Mei Terumī stood on a rooftop, not chasing Su Xiao but commanding the ninjas who had already gathered.

”The culprit is at the edge of the village, an assassin of the Fourth Mizukage. I’ll handle things within the village, you all go pursue him.”

”Yes.”

The Ninja Village being under attack, there were no factional divisions, united against the common enemy.

Large groups of ninjas disappeared into the night; Mei Terumī watched the houses where smoke was curling up, a smile appearing on her lips.

Besides a few ’victims,’ the Hidden Mist Village suffered almost no losses.

”Qing, deal with him, he’s useless now.”

”Yes.”

Qing flickered away; it seemed everything had been planned in advance.

After Qing left, Mei Terumī sighed. She had no choice but to take this desperate measure. She knew from the start that Su Xiao wouldn’t do anything for her unless he had ulterior motives. She wouldn’t have let Su Xiao out otherwise.

”That organization called Dawn has already been cleared out. As long as we stabilize the Warring Faction, peace is not far away. The Hidden Mist Village cannot afford more internal strife.”

Interestingly, Su Xiao and Mei Terumī were always plotting against one another, yet their goals didn’t conflict.

Su Xiao wanted to leave the Hidden Mist Village, while Mei Terumī wanted to break the current situation.

Now that the village was under attack, as long as Su Xiao was killed, everything would become clear. Even if they couldn’t kill Su Xiao, it didn’t matter; the Mist wouldn’t believe an assassin’s words.

...

At the edge of the Hidden Mist Village, Bubu Wang was running at full speed, with Su Xiao riding on Bubu Wang’s back.

They had already fled to the edge of the Hidden Mist Village; as long as they escaped the village’s range, those Mist Ninja wouldn’t be able to do anything.

Swoosh, swoosh...

The sound of wind-breaking came from behind. When Su Xiao turned his head, he saw a group of pursuing ninjas.

The speed of these ninjas was no slower than Bubu Wang. Some Taijutsu-type ninjas were even faster than Bubu Wang.

After running over a hill, Su Xiao knew this wouldn’t work; he would be caught sooner or later.

”Pursue, the target is behind the mountain.”

Qing’s eyes were wide open, and the White Eye was particularly striking. As long as Qing was there, it was nearly impossible for Su Xiao to shake off these Mist Ninja.

The lineup pursuing Su Xiao was strong, consisting of ten Jonin and over thirty Chunin.

This was already an overwhelming lineup, considering that ninjas aren’t allowed to leave the Ninja Village in large numbers except when necessary.

Crack.

A dry branch was broken by a Taijutsu-type Jonin’s foot as he led the pursuit team, roughly ten meters ahead of Su Xiao.

”Water Jutsu·Jiwan.”

While running, the Taijutsu Jonin formed a water ball in his hand, filled with dense Chakra, and threw it with full force. The water ball flew towards Su Xiao.

The water ball exploded with a plop near Su Xiao, splattering a viscous liquid on the ground.

Bubu Wang stepped on the liquid, slipping forward and staggering, about to fall over.

If Bubu Wang fell, Su Xiao would be left there.

In the critical moment, Bubu Wang’s eyes widened in fury, powering from its waist, all four claws stretched straight, spinning 360 degrees without falling, showing the style of an experienced driver.

Even the Taijutsu ninja was dumbfounded, almost managing to stop the enemy.

Su Xiao tightly gripped Bubu Wang’s mane at the back of its neck, nearly thrown off by Bubu Wang’s drift.

Looking at the pursuing enemies, Su Xiao shouted, ”Keep running, don’t look back.”

Bubu Wang barked, using all its strength to run forward.

Su Xiao supported himself on Bubu Wang’s back, shifting from sitting forward to backward, facing the pursuing Mist Ninja.

The Boundary Line sprang out, and Su Xiao used it to tie the lower half of his body to Bubu Wang’s back, ensuring he wouldn’t be thrown off no matter what.

With his hands free, Su Xiao pulled out a terrifying weapon from the storage space, nearly two meters long—the heavy sniping Spider Queen!

The enemies were too close, so Su Xiao didn’t activate the ’Optical Infrared Detector 8x (Active)’; he used only the Spider Queen’s iron sights.

As for why he didn’t use the Black and White Dual Guns, it was because the flying speed of handgun bullets wasn’t fast enough, allowing a Jonin to likely dodge them.

The sniper rifle was different. If timed well, a mid-range sniper rifle could be more terrifying than other firearms.

Tilting his head to dodge a flying kunai, Su Xiao aligned the Spider Queen’s sights with the Taijutsu ninja at the forefront, who posed the greatest threat.

Bam.

The silenced gunshot echoed, with the Spider Queen’s butt pressing against Su Xiao’s shoulder blade as a bullet was fired.

The bullet tore through layers of airwaves with powerful kinetic energy, reaching the Taijutsu Jonin’s chest in less than a second.

Crash.

A burst of blood sprayed from the Taijutsu Jonin’s chest, with pale ribs exploded and spiraling away.

The Taijutsu Jonin’s expression was bewildered, a numbness in his chest making him collapse forward.

He dove to the ground in Sand Landing Goose Style, other ninjas running past him without even a glance; this was the Blood Mist way.

The Taijutsu Jonin gasped for breath, coughing up mouthfuls of blood before standing, despite having a large hole blasted in his chest, unbelievably not dying immediately.

”What... weapon is this?”

The Taijutsu Jonin’s legs went weak, collapsing again, his pupils gradually losing focus.

While still riding Bubu Wang, Su Xiao received a notification.

[You have killed Hidden Mist Village Jonin · Tanikawa Uichi]

[Tanikawa Uichi was a Hidden Mist Village Jonin, gaining 2.1% World Source, now totaling 2.1% World Source.]

...

Killing just one Jonin granted 2.1% World Source; although the open world is dangerous, many Contractors soar in such an open world.

This Jonin dropped a Treasure chest, but Su Xiao had no time to pick it up, prioritizing escape.

Shooting a Jonin to death with one shot only occurred under specific circumstances, like now.

These Mist Ninja pursued Su Xiao at full speed, unable to dodge bullets mid-run; more precisely, they were rushing into the bullets. Although they could trace the bullet’s path, dodging was unlikely unless they stopped.

Sniper rifle bullets, used for long-range sniping, fly very fast. Su Xiao was only tens of meters away from those pursuing ninjas. At this distance, even with his high nerve reflex speed, Su Xiao couldn’t dodge Spider Queen’s bullets.
