Chapter 527: Chapter 15: Recruitment

Seeing the two people ahead, Su Xiao became alert, the Dragon Slash appeared in his hand.

He had seen the two of them before, but only in anime. They were Uchiha Itachi and Kisame Hoshigaki.

Su Xiao was a bit puzzled. Why were the members of the Akatsuki Organization here?

The so-called Akatsuki Organization is an ’illegal group’ in the Naruto World, with a motley crew of members from all walks of life.

Among them are war orphans (Nagato), the undead (Kakuzu), brother complex (Uchiha Itachi), loyal rogue ninjas (Kisame Hoshigaki), loveless youth (Sasori), explosive fanatic (Deidara), cult fanatics (Hidan), money-obsessed (Kakuzu), and heartbroken youths whose worldview collapsed (Uchiha Obito).

Such a group of powerful yet diverse in personality individuals gathered together, camaraderie and affection are irrelevant to the Akatsuki Organization, and it’s common for them to attack their companions over disagreements.

Now, two members of the Akatsuki Organization stood before Su Xiao, wearing black windbreakers embroidered with red clouds.

”Do you two have any business?”

Su Xiao spoke with a smile, walking forward slowly, as close combat was his only chance if he had to fight them.

”Take another step and I’ll leave you with a beautiful cut.”

Kisame Hoshigaki grasped the handle of the shinobi dagger on his back, which was over a meter long with a wide blade, wrapped in bandages—only the handle was exposed.

Su Xiao’s forward steps came to a halt.

”Are you Bai Ye?”

Uchiha Itachi spoke, his tone unhurried.

”Probably.”

Upon hearing Su Xiao’s answer, Itachi frowned slightly.

”Someone wants to see you.”

”Who?”

”Our leader.”

Su Xiao’s eyes narrowed slightly, now the two men’s purpose was more than obvious — to recruit him into the Akatsuki Organization. After all, he had the merit of assassinating the Fourth Mizukage and attacking the Hidden Mist Village. It was only natural for the Akatsuki Organization to approach him.

”Speak clearly.”

Itachi thought for a moment, then nodded.

”The leader wants you to join us; we’ll discuss the details later.”

As he spoke, Itachi signaled to Kisame with a glance. Whenever a new member was to join, a fight would be initiated, as those who joined the Akatsuki were all unruly individuals.

Kisame understood Itachi’s intention and unwrapped the shinobi dagger from his back.

”Don’t let him get close.”

”Understood.”

Kisame stretched his muscles and bones, yet Su Xiao suddenly spoke: ”I can join you.”

”Hmm?”

Kisame, who was about to form a seal, froze.

Seeing their confusion, Su Xiao repeated: ”I can join you.”

Joining the Akatsuki was actually not a bad choice. After all, he didn’t have many options left, and compared to the Sound Ninja Village, Akatsuki was a better choice, although equally dangerous.

Moreover, joining Akatsuki had one benefit: there should be very few Contractors within the organization, or maybe none at all.

”Agreed?”

Kisame was ready to make a move, yet Su Xiao agreed so decisively.

”Previously, I intended to join the Iron Country, but unfortunately, I was rejected. Now that someone is actively inviting me, of course, I want to go and see.”

Su Xiao sheathed the Dragon Slash. Engaging with Kisame would be a thankless task, in his view, a battle where you can’t kill the enemy is meaningless.

”Is that so? Then let’s go.”

Itachi turned to prepare to move forward, and Su Xiao suddenly spoke.

”Wait.”

Itachi and Kisame looked at Su Xiao.

”How are the benefits in your organization? What’s the monthly salary?”

Su Xiao’s question visibly stumped the aloof Itachi, but Kisame quickly responded.

”The benefits aren’t bad, provided you stay alive.”

”That’s good to hear.”

Su Xiao rode on Bubu Wang’s back, following behind Itachi and Kisame.

Whoosh, whoosh~

Itachi and Kisame sped up, and Bubu Wang also ran. The speed of the two was fast, but not beyond Bubu Wang’s capability to keep up.

While running, the two ahead whispered to each other.

”Itachi, why did the leader invite him to join? His strength...”

”After closing in, his strength is very strong. Mist Ninja’s spies provided detailed information. If he gets close, you might all die.”

”Hmm? That strong?”

”Provided he can close in.”

”Got it, so is he a backup member?”

”No, an official member. There is an empty ring available.”

”An official member?”

Kisame was somewhat puzzled.

”Yes, he is responsible for close-quarters restraint of the Jinchuriki, which will greatly assist in our upcoming Tailed Beast capture plan. Currently, besides Hidan, no one dares to close in on the Jinchuriki within the organization. He is to fill this gap.”

Upon hearing Itachi’s response, Kisame understood the leader’s intention.

Previously, the Akatsuki organization had someone to fill this gap, and that was Pipashizang. However, Pipashizang perished in battle. While other members were strong, their capabilities in close-quarters combat with the Jinchuriki were insufficient. As for Hidan, that guy might not die when close to the Jinchuriki, but he would get severely beaten.

Members like Sasori, Deidara, and Kakuzu were not weak, but they were not close combat experts.

When a Jinchuriki undergoes Tailed Beast Transformation, their close combat ability becomes exceedingly strong. The ideal way to deal with them is to close in and hold them off, while others provide support. This approach maximizes the possibility of capturing the Jinchuriki alive; otherwise, there might be an accidental kill of the Jinchuriki, as Nagato almost once accidentally killed one, eventually letting up, allowing them to escape.

...

Following behind Itachi and Kisame, Su Xiao pondered.

The Akatsuki Organization invited him to join, but what they specifically wanted him to do was still unknown. If they wanted him to capture Tailed Beasts, even better; Su Xiao’s goal was to absorb the chakra from within the Tailed Beasts to enhance the Blue Steel Shadow.

If he were to search for Tailed Beasts on his own, he might not find one by the time the mission ends.

Even if he found a Tailed Beast, whether he could defeat it was uncertain. Therefore, joining Akatsuki was a good choice.

If he could participate in the Jinchuriki capture plan, Su Xiao might be able to absorb the chakra of two or more Tailed Beasts.

While this was good news, he had to be cautious of several people within the Akatsuki Organization.

The first was Kakuzu. No one knows how many years this guy has lived. Although he was inconspicuous during early and mid-stages, he revealed himself as the final boss in the ultimate battle.

The second to be cautious of was Uchiha Obito. This guy’s unrequited love from his youth was killed by his best friend in front of him, making him exceptionally extreme after.

In Obito’s view, a world without Nohara Rin is irrelevant whether it’s destroyed; he would do anything to resurrect Rin, even if it meant world annihilation!

The third to be wary of is Uchiha Itachi. This brother complex is a spy, harboring a death wish, and ultimately left his brother with a ’big gift’ and met his end with a smile.

As for the other members, although dangerous, they all have their weaknesses.

Among the Akatsuki members, Su Xiao was most interested in the bomb fanatic. His Alchemy Bomb and the other’s Clay Bomb were similar enough to exchange knowledge.

While Alchemy Bombs are convenient and powerful, their manufacture is too troublesome and costly.

The ideal Alchemy Bomb would be one that could be made anytime, low-cost, and easy to carry.

It was too early to think about these matters now; Su Xiao had to quickly join the Akatsuki, as in 32 hours the task’s deadline would be up, by then he would be left with no options but death, and even the Hunter had no special privileges.
