Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Kong Menglin, you?”

”Cheng Changsheng, do you think it can end just like this? I’m telling you, that’s impossible.”

Cheng Changsheng suppressed the anger in his heart, knowing that it was useless to argue now.

”Fine, Kong Menglin, I’ll marry you, but don’t regret it.”

Kong Demin frowned at his words, but since his sister was willing, there was nothing he could do. Cheng Changsheng was a lustful man and such a man was unreliable.

”Menglin, just take good care of yourself.”

”Second brother, wait a moment. I have something to tell you.”

Kong Demin did not leave but looked at her.

”Second brother, I don’t want to sue Cheng Changsheng’s wife anymore.”

”Why?”

”I just think that since I can marry him, there’s no need to make things too extreme.”

”By doing this, he’ll often think of his ex-wife.”

”Second brother, I just want to live a simple life in the future. I don’t want to push him too hard, and besides, I can’t have children in this life. So, I have to let his children take care of me in old age, and I can’t offend them too much.”

”Okay, I’ll also give you some assurances. Alright, I understand what you mean.”

After Kong Demin came out, he didn’t see Cheng Changsheng, making him even more dissatisfied with him.

He went straight to the interrogation room. Chen Fengzhi was still there.

”Let her go first.”

Chen Fengzhi was stunned for a moment. What was going on?

”Go call Cheng Changsheng over.”

The interrogation room only had the three of them left. About an hour later, Cheng Changsheng and Chen Fengzhi went to the civil affairs bureau, got their divorce certificate, and found Kong Demin.

”Now, you go get the marriage certificate with Kong Menglin. Also, you’d better follow through, I’ll give you a day.”

By now, Cheng Changsheng had no energy left.

The two of them went home. Once at home, they faced each other in silence.

After a long time, Cheng Changsheng finally spoke, ”Fengzhi, pack up your things, I’ll take you back to your hometown.”

Chen Fengzhi stood up and looked around her home. Everything here was carefully managed by her and soon wouldn’t belong to her anymore.

She opened the wardrobe to pack her things, and in the end, a bundle was all she needed for everything she owned, realizing she had nothing all these years.

She took out a tin box and handed it to Cheng Changsheng. ”This is all the money at home, about twelve hundred. Save it for the two children.”

”Alright, we’ll split it right away. Five hundred each for them, a hundred for you, and a hundred for me.”

Cheng Changsheng said this, and Chen Fengzhi was quite pleased. They took the household register to the bank and deposited it for a fixed term of five years. This was the guarantee for their two sons.

At noon, Chen Fengzhi made pancakes, fried eggs, and fried cabbage for Cheng Changsheng.

”I made plenty today, so you three can also have them for dinner, just cook some porridge for the kids.”

Chen Fengzhi felt like she had endless instructions, feeling uneasy about everything.

In the afternoon, Cheng Changsheng rode his bike to take her back to their hometown. There was a house in the hometown, so Chen Fengzhi wouldn’t be without a place to stay.

”Let the sons visit me when they can.”

”Mm, I will.”

Cheng Changsheng was very confused now. Originally, he hated Kong Menglin, but he didn’t expect her to spare Fengzhi, and now he didn’t know how to feel about her.

That night, when the kids came home from school, the three of them had dinner.

”You both know what happened yesterday. Your mom is fine; she’s in the hometown, but we divorced, and I married that woman who was beaten.”

The two kids looked at their dad in surprise. Although they were only in fifth and third grades, they knew that if their mom was sentenced, she would be in prison.

Of course, they were glad their mom didn’t have to go to jail.

”Dad, we know, just because she spared our mom, we won’t be at odds with her.”

”Good, you two should study well and leave this house early.

And you can visit your mom anytime.”

Both of them nodded; they could go on Saturday mornings and return on Sunday evenings, so their time with that woman would be short, reducing conflicts.

On the morning of the eighth, he made breakfast for the kids and sent them to school before Cheng Changsheng rode his bike to the hospital.

Today, Kong Menglin was much better and in good spirits. She just nodded when she saw Cheng Changsheng coming in.

Cheng Changsheng took out the marriage certificate from his bag and handed it to Kong Menglin.

”Oh? So we’re married now?”

”Mm.”

Kong Menglin looked at the marriage certificate that looked like a certificate of merit and put it aside.

”I don’t need you to do anything here. You go to work, and you don’t have to come over regularly. Just take care of the two kids at home,” Kong Menglin instructed calmly, knowing Cheng Changsheng hated her deeply.

Cheng Changsheng felt uncomfortable hearing this.

He nodded, turned, and left. Today, Kong Mengjie had to go to work, so she was alone in the hospital, pondering over the past. She realized how foolish she had been. But since things had come to this, there was no turning back.

She touched her belly and knew she’d never have the chance to be a mother again.

But she didn’t cry, and she didn’t feel that not having children was bad.

But she truly hated that woman for making her suffer so much. But she chose to back down, just wanting to live with Cheng Changsheng for the rest of her life.

Retreating to advance seemed to have worked. There was no hatred in Cheng Changsheng’s eyes anymore.

She bet right on this. She hoped nothing bad would happen in the future.

At noon, Huang Hongwei came to bring her food.

”Brother-in-law, you go ahead.”

”It’s alright, I’ll wait for you to finish eating. I need to take the lunchbox back and bring you dinner. Eat more.”

Now, Kong Menglin no longer hated Kong Mengjie. After all that had happened, she had matured quite a bit.

In the evening, Huang Hongwei came to deliver dinner. ”Meng Lin, your sister is coming over in a while after she’s done cleaning at home.”

”Brother-in-law, tell my sister that I’m fine now and can get out of bed and move around. I can manage on my own; just need you to bring me meals.”

”No need, your sister is worried. She should come take care of you.”

”By the way, Dehong is back in the hometown.”

Kong Menglin knew that her parents would definitely come tomorrow. She couldn’t avoid it, but fortunately, she was already married; her father’s anger would likely be much less, she thought, resigned to her fate.

”Mm, got it, brother-in-law, you can go back.”

Kong Mengjie arrived an hour later, bringing clean clothes for Kong Menglin.

”Sis, you don’t need to come over anymore. After Dad and Mom leave, I want to move back home and adjust to it.”
