Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

After returning home, Huang Hongwei busied himself around, lit the big stove. Even though it was summer, the heated kang had to be used, or else illnesses would arise.

He specially made millet porridge for his wife, with brown sugar added.

Seeing the two children staring intently, he gave each of them a bowl too.

”Tiantian, Jianfeng.”

”Mom?”

”How about you two go stay at Grandma’s house? When it’s time for school, let your dad pick you up.

Your dad has to work, and mom can’t move right now, can’t take care of you.”

Both children nodded, and Huang Hongwei rode his bike to take them, taking the chance to deliver the good news to his in-laws.

At home, only Kong Mengjie and the newborn were left.

She looked at the child sleeping beside her, feeling particularly uneasy. She was originally a woman who didn’t look down on girls, and from a young age, Tian Shulan and Kong Zhongyou hadn’t shown her any disdain.

She was just particularly disappointed. She wanted a son with Huang Zhongyou. A son that belonged to both of them. But heaven couldn’t grant her that.

Huang Hongwei, with the two kids, arrived at his mother-in-law’s home, ”Mom, Mengjie gave birth, a five-pound-eight-ounce chubby girl.”

”That’s great.” Tian Shulan smiled, but still watched Huang Hongwei’s face to make sure he wasn’t unhappy.

”Mom, Mengjie is in great health, you and dad can rest assured.

Also, we’ll have to trouble you two again, the kids will need to stay here for a while. I’ll come to get them at the end of the month.”

”Alright, you can rest easy letting them stay here.

Wait a moment, I’ll prepare some millet and eggs for you.

Childbirth for women is a big deal and needs to be well cared for, or else it could lead to illnesses when old and cause suffering.”

”Thank you, Mom.”

”No need to be polite; she’s my daughter.”

Tian Shulan picked out twenty eggs, more than ten pounds of millet, and in the garden, she picked a lot of beans, eggplants, and cucumbers for them too.

The two children had already run off and disappeared. Huang Jianfeng especially liked it here; he could go out and play every day. Unlike in the city, where he could only stay in the courtyard every day.

Huang Hongwei carried a basket on his back and rode his bike home.

On the way, he sped up, worrying about his wife being alone at home.

This is how men are, when his ex-wife Dong Wenhua gave birth to the second child, he didn’t even go back; this is the differential treatment. This is how a man treats the woman he loves and the woman he does not love. They say mother becomes noble through son, but it’s more that the son becomes noble through the mother.

In a hurry, he reached home, quietly entered the room, saw his wife and child sleeping, it was already past five, and hurriedly started making food for his wife, after all, the child still had to be fed.

In the evening, Kong Mengjie’s milk came down, watching her daughter eating heartily, Kong Mengjie sighed.

”Mengjie, wife, it’s okay, really, I like daughters. What good is it to have a son? In the future, you might not even be able to rely on him, and you have to worry about him. One son is enough for us.”

Kong Mengjie glanced at Huang Hongwei, thinking that it was precisely because they didn’t have a son that she wanted to have another one.

”Wife, don’t think about it, three children is already very good, you are blessed, you have both son and daughter.”

Listening to Huang Hongwei, Kong Mengjie felt as if he didn’t want more children, but she was unwilling. Yet she also knew that if they had another one, life would be very tight.

”Are we not having more kids?”

”Wife, if we end up having one, then we’ll keep it, let nature take its course.”

Kong Mengjie thought about how infatuated Huang Hongwei was with her; getting pregnant was a certainty.

”Hongwei, if you don’t want more children, perhaps consult a doctor for a solution.”

Huang Hongwei smiled, ”Wife, I know what to do, don’t worry.” Being over forty, with two wives and six children, how could he not know?

That night, Huang Hongwei let Kong Mengjie sleep while he took care of the child. He held his ex-wife’s three children much less, but he took care of the three born to Kong Mengjie himself. So, he was very experienced in looking after children.

The next morning, he made breakfast for his wife, washed diapers, and placed the hot water bottle, tea caddy, and rice candy within his wife’s reach on the kang before heading to work.

He received many congratulations again, whether sincere or not, he accepted them all with a smile.

For the past five years, Kong Mengjie had three children while working, her maternity leave was quite excessive, yet she remained a team leader. Many people were eyeing this position, but how could Huang Hongwei let his wife lose this job? So he mostly followed this group, even if anyone was dissatisfied, they said nothing.

Huang Hongwei understood some people’s minds but couldn’t make it explicit. By working a bit harder himself, he could silence everyone.

”Director Huang, are you going to hold a celebration when the child turns twelve days or a month?”

”We’re not preparing to have one, just the three of us, without much support, it saves the trouble.”

Because of this, everyone was even more pleased. If they continued with the celebration, they would have to spend money, not having it was better.

Every day, Huang Hongwei was as busy as a spinning top, and those who got along well would tease him. What good things could a bunch of men say when gathered together?

”Old Huang, take it easy in the future, huh? You must have been missing a single day, having three children already, no, you have six! Really envy you, two wives, six children, and the younger wife is even more young and beautiful, really something, Old Huang.”

”Don’t talk nonsense, what kind of ability is that?” Even though Huang Hongwei said this, he couldn’t stop smiling.

This is also a man’s pride. To have a young and beautiful wife is indeed something to be proud of.

The women, however, were all disdainful, yet they still envied Kong Mengjie in their hearts. Although this man was much older, he was a director who earned more, and most importantly, he treated his wife well.

So their family provided the workers in the textile factory with topics and entertainment to talk about all day.

Ten days later, Kong Mengjie was already up and about; she empathized with her hardworking husband, who never seemed to have a moment’s rest.

She didn’t require him to look after the child at night either; she managed by herself, except for the diapers, which Huang Hongwei insisted on washing.

On the twelfth day, Kong Demin came with Kong Dehong and Kong Menglin to visit her.

This time they brought fifty eggs, ten pounds of noodles, and two pounds of brown sugar. So, the gift was quite ample.

”Sis, this little girl isn’t as pretty as Tiantian, looks more like brother-in-law.”

Kong Mengjie glared at Kong Dehong, such a tactless child.

”She’ll be fine when she grows up, surely a pretty girl.”

Kong Menglin sat eating rice candy, ”Sis, did brother-in-law mind you having a girl?”

This made Kong Mengjie quite angry; as for this sister, she truly couldn’t bring herself to like her.

”No, he likes daughters.”

Kong Menglin laughed heartily, ”Yeah, my brother-in-law likes you, he’ll like whatever you have.”
