Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Wei Kaiyun also smiled very appropriately. ”Thank you, Director Zhu.”

”Xiao Wei, I received the notification from above last year. You’ve been enjoying yourself outside for a year, huh?”

”I wasn’t feeling well, wanted to take a year’s rest. Director Zhu, you still look as radiant as ever, you haven’t changed at all in two years.”

”I can’t keep up, I’m getting old. Xiao Wei, do you want to make a call to your superiors?”

”That would be perfect. It’s not convenient for me to make calls outside.”

Zhu Peishan just laughed and dialed the phone before handing it to Wei Kaiyun.

”Leader, I’m back.”

”Everything’s good?”

”Not bad, how about you?”

”I’m fine too, you continue to stay at the textile factory.”

”I’ll follow the leader’s arrangement.”

Wei Kaiyun handed the phone back to Zhu Peishan and sat down to wait.

After a few words, Zhu Peishan put down the phone.

”Xiao Wei, when do you plan to go to the textile factory?”

”I’ll follow the Director’s arrangement.”

”Alright, you should go today. You’re familiar with the factory, but you should still transition the work with Ding Mingqiang.”

”Yes, okay, should I go now?”

”Yes, here is your appointment letter. Take it with you. Ding Mingqiang has long known you’re returning, just waiting for the handover.”

Wei Kaiyun didn’t linger and went directly to the textile factory. From the outside, nothing seemed to have changed in two years.

However, the gatekeeper wasn’t the same person. Wei Kaiyun registered before going in.

He went straight to the director’s office, where Chen Xianqiang stood up.

”Hello, I’m Wei Kaiyun.”

”Hello, please wait a moment. I’ll call Director Ding out.”

Listening to Secretary Chen, Ding Mingqiang sighed to himself but quickly put down his pen and went out.

The two smiled, shook hands, and exchanged pleasantries. ”Director Wei is finally back, I can go home now.”

”Director Ding, I’m sorry.”

”It’s okay, being too far from home, the work here is too busy, I haven’t been back for two years.”

”All the same, can’t help it.”

”We should move quickly with the work handover; I can’t wait to be home.” Ding Mingqiang joked.

Wei Kaiyun also nodded with a smile. ”Where will you work after you return home, Director Ding?”

”I’ll follow the arrangements from above, likely in a local textile factory.”

”I’m causing trouble for you with my arrival.”

Ding Mingqiang felt much better hearing this. Though they were both dispatched from above, he’d worked here for two years as a substitute—it wasn’t easy to be happy about it.

But what Wei Kaiyun said made him feel comfortable.

”It’s understandable. We’ll just follow the arrangements.”

The director’s handover work was quite intricate. At noon, the two ate together in the canteen, drawing a lot of attention.

A meeting was held in the afternoon for team leaders and above. Wei Kaiyun once again appeared before the workers.

The handover work took three days. Soon, Ding Mingqiang was about to leave. Suddenly, he received a call from Director Zhu.

The two went to the Management Bureau together. ”Calling you both over is because the position of deputy director here has been vacant for over a year, now we need to ask Ding Mingqiang to take the deputy director’s role.”

Wei Kaiyun frowned slightly, looking directly at Director Zhu, who nodded—this was the decision from above. He didn’t really wish to be deputy director.

”Director Zhu, can I make a call?” Wei Kaiyun still wanted to fight for it, as he didn’t care about the distinction between being a director or deputy.

”Yes, there’s a phone in the secretary’s office outside.”

Wei Kaiyun dialed his leader’s number again.

”Xiao Wei, I guessed you’d call.”

”Leader, I’ll be the deputy then.”

”No.”

Wei Kaiyun understood the result but felt uncomfortable not fighting for it.

”Okay.”

”Do a good job.”

Wei Kaiyun returned to the director’s office, exchanged a few more words, and then the two left together.

”Director Wei, though we weren’t familiar before, you’re quite a good person. I won’t mind being deputy director.”

”During the handover these days, I’ve seen your capability. I think it’s a bit of a waste.”

”Haha, it’s all the same. Let’s work hard together from now on.”

Since the decision was made, that’s that.

The driver was Lu Weiqi, who was still Wei Kaiyun’s secretary.

”Chen Xianliang, take some days off, go bring your sister-in-law and the kids over.”

”Yes.”

”Originally wanted to come over, but knowing you’re returning, felt it would be too much hassle to move, so didn’t bring them here before. Now having received the notice, no worries anymore, I won’t be alone.”

Wei Kaiyun chuckled, ”It’s more comfortable with the family together. Do you plan to stay in the dorm, or move out?”

”Move out. The factory isn’t really suited for kids.”

With arrangements in place, Wei Kaiyun officially started work.

Early on Saturday morning, he had breakfast in the cafeteria and sat in the office waiting to call his wife.

”Xinyu, it’s all arranged here, quite good, don’t worry.”

”That’s good, we’re doing well too. It’ll be better to write letters later, this is too inconvenient.”

”Alright, take care of yourself.”

After putting down the phone, Wei Kaiyun felt much better.

Lu Weiqi was also not off duty today. The direct supervisor worked overtime, so the secretary had to follow.

”Director Wei, Tian Mingyan is outside.”

”Okay, let her come in.”

Since knowing Wei Kaiyun was back, Tian Mingyan regretted deeply. After days of contemplation, she decided to come over.

”You need something?”

”Director Wei, I just came to see you.”

”I heard about your situation, work well.”

Tian Mingyan felt very embarrassed, glanced at Wei Kaiyun, and turned to leave.

”Director Wei, Tian Mingyan isn’t doing well these days.”

”Sigh, that’s her choice.”

Lu Weiqi nodded, yes, it’s her own choice.

However, this Jia Xingzhi really leaves people speechless. Their couple’s situation is unmatched.

Regarding Tian Mingyan, Wei Kaiyun already knew—it’s like Zhou Yu beating Huang Gai; both parties willingly bear it.

A week later, at the end of March, Ding Mingqiang’s wife and children arrived.

Wei Kaiyun specially invited their family for dinner.

At home, construction was underway. Director Wei was giving it the green light, just waiting for the final inspection, there was simply too much work to handle. After a year’s free lifestyle, suddenly working like this, it took Wei Kaiyun over half a month to adjust.

People from T City also came over. Wei Kaiyun spent a day reviewing information from there.

”Why is there so much detail on Kong Demin?”

”I live next door to his family. It’s particularly clear, and he really has issues. I feel his wife’s death is linked to him.”
