Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”You, shameless thing! I’ll beat you to death.” Tian Shulan cried as she swung her courage at Kong Menglin.

Kong Menglin caught the courage in one swift move, ”Mom, stop it. I know what I’m doing. If you keep this up, I won’t come back again.”

Tian Shulan sat on the side, wailing, but just as she started, she swallowed it back. If the head of the family found out, Menglin would probably not have a good outcome.

”Don’t go to work anymore. I’ll introduce you to someone right away. Get married as soon as possible.”

”Get married? Fine, but at least he has to have a house in the city and earn at least sixty a month. If you can find such a person, I’ll marry him.”

Tian Shulan really had no temper left now.

”Mom, I’m going back to my room. You don’t need to worry about me. I’m an adult and know how to take care of myself.”

After saying this, Kong Menglin turned and left. When the Kong Family father and son returned, Kong Zhongyou noticed the young daughter wasn’t there, but after asking, he didn’t pursue it further.

Tian Shulan was full of grievances, but she didn’t dare express them. This was the most suffocating New Year she had experienced.

On the second day of the New Year, Kong Mengjie brought the three children back to pay the New Year’s greetings.

She also stuffed ten yuan into Tian Shulan’s hand. Huang Hongwei bought three kinds of pastries, and seeing Huang Jianfeng put Tian Shulan in a slightly better mood.

”Big sister, I’ll go back with you today.”

”When do you start work?”

”The sixth day of the New Year.”

”Why are you going back so early then?”

”At home, Mom just looks at me with disdain. I’d better go back.”

Hearing her eldest daughter’s words, Tian Shulan held back her tears.

She pulled Kong Mengjie into the room and told her about Kong Menglin.

”Mom, should we tell my second brother?”

”Yes, I was thinking of telling him when he gets back. I want Menglin to come back and not go outside. Find her an honest family and let her get married.”

Kong Mengjie didn’t speak. She really couldn’t handle this. It had to be Kong Demin.

Outside, Kong Menglin had heard their conversation and burst in, ”Mom, if you think that way, I won’t step foot into this house again. You’re hurting me.

Why is it that Kong Mengjie can be indiscreet outside, getting with a married man, but I can’t?”

Kong Mengjie was so angry that her face turned pale. Having her own blemish brought up by her younger sister was truly ironic.

Tian Shulan looked at the daughter who was unyielding to reason and really had no way to deal with her.

”Mom, if you tell my second brother, aren’t you afraid he won’t be able to hold his head up? If you dare, just tell him.”

In truth, only with Tian Shulan was Kong Menglin daring enough to talk like this. She absolutely wouldn’t dare with Kong Zhongyou.

”Kong Mengjie, I’m telling you, stay out of my business. I don’t need your meddling.”

”Fine, fine, very well. From now on, I won’t say a word about your matters. You’re someone who doesn’t know what’s good for them.

Don’t come to me if you need anything in the future. We’ll cut ties.”

Even though they were speaking in low voices, the men outside couldn’t hear what they were saying, but they noticed the commotion.

Kong Zhongyou coughed once, ”What are you all arguing about during the New Year? If you don’t want to celebrate, then leave.”

Only then did the Niang San quiet down. However, the atmosphere remained tense.

The lunch was very sumptuous for a rural setting, with braised carp, braised chicken, and braised pork.

Kong Zhongyou was quite happy today. He had a few drinks with his youngest son and eldest son-in-law.

After lunch, Kong Mengjie didn’t want to see Kong Menglin and took her family of five home.

”Mengjie, what’s wrong? Why are you upset?” Huang Hongwei asked softly.

”It’s all because of Kong Menglin. I’ll tell you about it tonight.”

”Mom, Grandma gave each of us a yuan as New Year’s money.”

”Good, Tiantian is grown up now. You can keep it yourself.”

Huang Hongwei looked at his daughter and son sitting in front. The kids were so big now that next year there wouldn’t be enough room for the little seat, right?

The five of them reached home, and as a man, Huang Hongwei quickly started a fire since the little daughter was still too young.

In the evening, they made shredded cabbage pot dumpling soup, and even the little daughter ate half a bowl.

Only after seeing their three children fall asleep did Huang Hongwei cuddle up to his wife for some affection.

”Hongwei, do you know? Kong Menglin doesn’t respect herself and got involved with a man. How young is she? What will she do in the future?”

”Mengjie, let’s not meddle. It won’t end well if we do. You’re sisters; just lend a hand when she needs it.”

”Today, Kong Menglin told me not to interfere in her business. She even said that I’m the one without self-respect, saying if I can flirt with a married man, so can she.”

Huang Hongwei kissed Kong Mengjie, ”Wife, I was the one at fault from the start. Honestly, I have no regrets. If it weren’t for that, I would never have had a chance to get close to you at all.

Back then, I knew you hated me. I have to thank the person who barged into our lives. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have decided to marry me.”

Kong Mengjie didn’t reply. Now that Huang Hongwei was truly good to her, she felt balanced. Otherwise, what would she gain from marrying a man 15 years her senior?

”Wife, you have no idea. The first time I had you, I thought to myself that my life was worth it.”

”You’re still talking! You forced me back then.”

”I had no choice. You cried and struggled. If I hadn’t, there would have been no chance. I feared that I’d soften and let you go. I’d regret it for life.”

”You didn’t consider my feelings at all back then.”

”Wife, I’ve wronged you. Having you and marrying you, it was all worth it.”

Once they talked things over, their relationship grew even closer.

Tian Shulan tossed and turned at night, unable to sleep.

”Why aren’t you sleeping?”

”It’s nothing, just can’t sleep. I won’t move, you go ahead and sleep.”

”Is it because Menglin and Mengjie had a fight?”

”Yes.”

”You’ve spoiled Menglin, she doesn’t know her place.”

Tian Shulan dared not say anything. Had she really failed to raise her daughters well? The first daughter went out and found an older man, and the younger one got involved with a man for a permanent job. What sin had she committed for this suffering?

She dared not turn in bed. If the head of the family found out about Menglin, she’d easily be beaten to death.

Kong Menglin lay on the kang, also not sleeping. She just wanted to return quickly. She had told that man to marry her, and he dared to avoid her for days?

She had to find a way to get him to divorce and marry her. If she missed this, there wouldn’t be such a good chance again.

What should she do? Should she let her second brother take charge for her? Her father would probably find out, and she’d definitely get beaten.

But what else could she do? Oh, right, she could talk to his wife, asking her to make space for her.

Kong Menglin thought this was the best way and decided that when she returns, she’d find a way to get to his home.
