Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Alright, still as unreliable as ever.”

Xiu Fen had already said more than once that this girl was a fool, always having a knack for offending people. You say that as a temporary worker, why can’t you just keep your head down? In the future, becoming permanent requires votes from coworkers.

I’ve said it countless times, yet she’s still the same, unaffected and seemingly heedless of both good and bad advice.

”Kong Menglin, if I find out again that you’re still like this, just go home. After all, you don’t have a graduation certificate.”

Kong Menglin angrily stared at her brothers and sisters in the room, but seeing her second brother’s stern face, she didn’t dare to say anything.

Before leaving, Kong Demin gave Kong Mengjie twenty yuan, ”Keep it for yourself.”

”Second brother, I have money.”

”Just take it when I’m giving it to you.”

Kong Menglin saw this and was very dissatisfied. Why didn’t she get any money? Although the salary already was given at the end of the month, there’s nothing left for buying the clothes she likes. She still has to give their parents ten yuan a month, where would she get that money?

Her eyes twinkled; she planned to come back on her own sometime to ask Kong Mengjie for it.

Tonight, a few families close with Huang Hongwei came over to see the baby.

They all gave two yuan each, which Kong Mengjie noted down in a notebook; it would need to be repaid in the future.

During the day, she stayed home making a schoolbag for her son, clothes for both kids, and shoes — she was never idle.

Nowadays, all housewives are like this; doing a full month of postpartum confinement is unrealistic since life is quite tough.

Huang Hongwei felt sorry for her, but he really didn’t know how to do such work.

Kong Mengjie felt more and more satisfied with Huang Hongwei; she now felt she was the happiest woman.

Kong Mengjie’s postpartum confinement wasn’t over before Pan Xiulan also gave birth on August 26th. However, the Shen Family cherished the daughter-in-law, allowing her to give birth in the hospital for peace of mind.

Pan Xiulan endured over three hours in the delivery room, finally giving birth to a chubby girl weighing seven and a half catties.

Although the elder couple of the Shen Family felt slightly disappointed, they were genuinely kind to Pan Xiulan. They knew the young couple was still young, and there would be more children in the future.

After Pan Xiulan gave birth, she was also worried about her in-laws being displeased, but was reassured by her husband’s comfort.

While Pan Xiulan was in labor, Shen Jian Country had already called the Pan Family. Mrs. Pan arrived three days later. Seeing her well-taken-care-of daughter, she felt relieved.

The Shen Family treated well, even though the daughter hadn’t given birth to a grandson, there was worry the Shen Family would be dissatisfied. However, seeing the mother-in-law happily taking care of the granddaughter put her at ease.

Pan Xiulan’s confinement was better than Kong Mengjie’s, with her own mother serving her, and in-laws ensuring a constant supply of fish, meat, and eggs. Thus, her milk was plentiful, and the little girl who was born perfectly robust directly grew to fifteen catties during confinement.

Mrs. Shen, seeing the chubby granddaughter, forgot about there not being a grandson. Father Shen especially named the granddaughter Shen Yiwei.

Entering September, Song Qingqing went into labor as well. She had been anxious for a long time, having endured over nine months of pregnancy, enduring sickness and lack of improvement until the end.

She only wished to quickly give birth, to finally be free.

On September 3rd, in the delivery room, she endured more than three hours to give birth to a girl weighing five and a half catties.

Zhou Zhaodong almost couldn’t hold on outside while his wife was in labor, as her weight remained the same as before pregnancy, causing him great concern.

On September 1st, when Song Qingqing was admitted to the hospital, she had called her family.

Therefore, after she gave birth, the Song Family came. Song’s mother, seeing her daughter reduced to a wretched state, couldn’t stop her tears from flowing.

Childbirth is like passing through the gates of hell; fortunately, her daughter was alright.

Zhou Zhaodong felt a bit guilty because when his wife was pregnant, she didn’t eat anything nutritious. The Zhou Family was just an ordinary family with many children, leading Mrs. Zhou to dismiss a woman’s pregnancy.

When they wanted to supplement her diet at seven months, it was already too late, and by that time, Song Qingqing couldn’t eat anything.

After giving birth, Song Qingqing’s stomach no longer burned, nor did she feel nauseous.

Seeing her mother there, all her grievances surfaced.

The mother and daughter held hands, both with tearful eyes.

”Silly child, didn’t you know to check yourself into the hospital? It’s your own health and your own life.”

”Mom, at first I thought it was nothing, after all, it’s just pregnancy. What’s the big deal? But this time, I truly suffered.”

Zhou Zhaodong was beside her, and Song’s mother couldn’t help but blame him, believing he hadn’t done what a husband should do.

The Song Family was well-off, and while their daughter married into an ordinary family because it was what she wanted, they felt she wasn’t being cared for enough.

Even though Song Qingqing appeared emaciated, she raised the baby very well. At five and a half catties, the baby was considered quite big at the time.

The child showed no signs of malnourishment and was healthy, crying loudly with vigor.

Song’s mother held the baby, ”Qingqing, this baby is just like you were as a child.”

”Mom, I’m hungry. I want to eat steamed egg custard.”

”Alright, I’ll go buy it for you. You need to replenish yourself during confinement, or you’ll suffer in the future.”

”Mom, I’ll go buy it. What do you want to eat?”

”I’ll eat anything. I just want my daughter to have something good.”

Hearing this reminder of his own neglect, Zhou Zhaodong fled hastily.

”Qingqing, tell me honestly, did you face difficulties at the Zhou Family?”

”Mom, Zhaodong treats me very well, and my in-laws are fine too. They just didn’t take it seriously at first, thinking it would get better later. When they saw I was still like that, they started to worry. But by then, it was too late.”

Song’s mother nodded; she could understand but not agree. The elders might not have taken it seriously, but it’s inexcusable for a husband not to care at all.

”What do you mean he treats you well? Like this? Don’t you know, for women, childbirth can sometimes mean one body, two lives. Silly girl, you’re killing me here.”

”Mom, don’t be angry. I’ll definitely recover during confinement.”

”I’ll take care of you during your confinement and leave only when it’s over.”

”Mom, what about your job?”

”I’ve been saving my vacation since you got married. It’s fine. For a life event like this in my daughter’s life, how could I not be there? Just stay in the hospital for a week without worry; although it’s inconvenient here, it’ll be better when you get home.”

Of course, Song Qingqing didn’t object. Having given birth herself, as her mom said, she needed to take care.

Zhou Zhaodong came back with food, ”Qingqing, Mom, hurry and eat.”

Song Qingqing held the bowl, initially frowning as she brought it to her mouth, yet the previous nausea feelings were gone.
