Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”My mom says I just didn’t refuse. When I go back, I’ll speak with my mom about it. I know Pan Xiulan isn’t happy.”

”Good that you know. You two are getting married before us, you need to arrange things quickly.”

Shen Jian Country also knows he has issues, and indeed should let go. At least Director Jiang pays so much attention to her; can he have hope?

When Shen Jian Country went home, his parents were already resting. He sighed and thought he’d talk with the family in the morning.

After all, the house is not spacious. Plus, there are younger siblings at home.

Lying in bed, thinking about Jiang Xinyu, they’ve only met twice. What does he like about her? She probably doesn’t even know who he is.

At breakfast the next day, Shen Jian Country put down his utensils, ”Mom, Dad, we should live separately.”

”Why? Did your wife tell you that?” Mrs. Shen asked, displeased.

”No, it wasn’t her. I came back yesterday with Zhou Zhaodong. They’re living on their own, and I thought maybe we should do likewise and move out.”

Mr. Shen also put down his utensils, ”Alright, the house is ready. Just need a repaint. You go find someone to do it, and give Jian Country the key.”

Mrs. Shen, with displeasure, found the key and tossed it onto the table.

Shen Jian Country didn’t want to upset his mom, so he took the key and went to work.

During lunch, he went to the house. It’s quite close to where he works, just a ten-minute walk, which is pretty good.

Actually, his family’s house is across from Jiang Xinyu’s, but he’s rarely there, didn’t realize it’s so close.

”Jian Country, this house is quite good, more spacious than mine.”

”Yeah, come help on Saturday.”

”Sure, you prepare the lime. I have the tools at my place, I’ll bring them over. What about the furniture?”

”I’ll just buy from the furniture factory.”

”Jian Country, actually I think you should find someone to redo the bed. You might want to call Secretary Pan over to see what her requirements are.”

”Okay, I’ll go find her after work today.”

Zhou Zhaodong felt Shen Jian Country was really not proactive at all.

”You should pay attention, if she disagrees, that’s trouble. Secretary Pan is such a good girl.”

”I know, I’m trying to adjust.”

After work in the evening, Shen Jian Country went to pick up Pan Xiulan, and the two went to the house together.

”Xiulan, see anything missing?”

”I think we should have a bathroom.”

”Alright, I was thinking of painting the house myself, but now I’ll just hire someone. I’ll redo the beds in the two rooms, the stove, and the furnace together.”

”Okay, let’s check out furniture on Saturday. I know the secretary at the furniture factory. Ailing’s furniture was bought by Director Jiang there.”

”Alright, we’ll go together on Saturday. It takes time to get furniture made.”

”There’s a lot to prepare. You find someone to redo the bathroom and extension room, I’ll handle curtains and door curtains.”

”Okay, I’ll find someone tomorrow. It should take about ten days to finish.”

”Jian Country, is your mom okay with this?”

”My dad told her to give me the key. Actually, the house has long been ready.”

It was already late, so they went to a restaurant and ordered a cold sweet potato noodle each. Shen Jian Country then took her back.

Upon returning to the dorm, Song Qingqing noticed Pan Xiulan was in a much better mood.

”What happened? Something good?”

”I just visited the house we’re going to get married in with Shen Jian Country. It’s quite close to the police station but needs a full renovation.”

”That’s still good. Living on your own is better than with family, fewer conflicts at least.”

”We’re going to the furniture factory on Saturday. Want to join us?”

”Sure, I’ll go and order early.”

The next day, Pan Xiulan called Hao Shichao, and they arranged to check furniture on Saturday.

On Saturday, they were waiting at the factory gate for the two of them.

Four of them went to the furniture factory. Hao Shichao greeted them with a smile.

”Congratulations Secretary Song, Secretary Pan.”

”Thank you, Secretary Hao. Our wedding day is October 1st, can it be done on time?”

”As long as it’s not too complicated, there should be no problem. Come, I’ll show you the designs.”

The two girls couldn’t stop looking once they saw the furniture designs; everything seemed great.

”Haha, you two pick what you like. Though I can’t cut the price, I can decide to gift you something.”

In the end, both picked two wardrobes, two bed cabinets, a dining table, a bed table, and four chairs. Hao Shichao decided to gift them four small stools each.

The furniture cost just a hundred and eighty bucks, but the girls were happy about it.

After paying, each one held a receipt.

”Secretary Pan, I’ll arrange delivery for you.”

”Thank you so much, Secretary Hao.”

”No problem, I’ll call you when it’s ready.”

It wasn’t early, so they decided to try out the food at the cafeteria; it’s improved a lot lately.

After some refusals, Hao Shichao took them to the cafeteria. The furniture factory served vegetable buns with leek and shrimp skin today, really flavorful.

”Secretary Hao, your meals are decent.”

”Haha, not bad. Eat more, it’s rare to get such good food today.”

Huang Yi was getting food when he noticed there were no seats left. He considered eating at the workshop but was called over by Hao Shichao.

”Huang Yi, come sit here to eat.”

The young man, eighteen and very handsome, smiled as he walked over, ”Thank you, Secretary Hao.”

”Don’t be formal. This is Secretary Song and Secretary Pan from the textile factory. This is Comrade Zhou and Comrade Shen from the police station.”

Huang Yi smiled and nodded, ”Secretary Song, Secretary Pan, Comrade Zhou, Comrade Shen, hello.” Then he sat down to eat.

The four smiled back and greeted him. ”By the way, have you two received calls from Director Jiang?”

Both shook their heads; no calls, no letters.

”Is Director Jiang so busy? He seems to have forgotten all us friends.”

”Director Jiang and Director She have a good relationship. Wang Ailing also hasn’t gotten a letter from her for quite a while,” Song Qingqing said with a smile.

”No idea what she’s busy with.”

Huang Yi listened quietly. He’s deeply thankful to Jiang Xinyu; without Director Jiang, he wouldn’t have a job or be able to support his siblings’ education. He pays close attention to any news about her. He genuinely wants to repay Jiang Xinyu.

”Maybe she’s just busy right now, but it’s vacation time too,” Pan Xiulan thought aloud.

”If Director Jiang calls, tell her to write back to me. Once she’s out, she just lets it go.”

Everyone laughed at Hao Shichao’s words.
