Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Wang Dajiang is quite resourceful; he managed to borrow some brown sugar in the middle of the night and made a strong brown sugar water for Kong Menglin.

”Menglin, drink the brown sugar water before you sleep again. You’ve lost too much blood. It was Director Kong who gave you the blood transfusion.”

He helped Kong Menglin sit up and watched her drink it all before letting her lie down.

”Wang Dajiang, do you think it will succeed?”

Wang Dajiang knew what she meant. ”If you insist he’s your first man, then no problem, even if he denies it.”

”Hmm, got it. Did the doctor say how old the baby was?” Kong Menglin asked.

”Hold on, I don’t really know. I’ll go get the doctor right now.”

Wang Dajiang found a nurse and said the patient was awake. The on-call doctor came over and checked Kong Menglin’s condition.

”Everything’s fine, just rest and recover. The rest are all external injuries.”

”Doctor, how old was my baby?”

”About two months.”

The doctor didn’t say much more and left.

”Menglin, the baby must have been Cheng Changsheng’s.”

Before long, Kong Menglin fell into a drowsy sleep again.

Wang Dajiang lay alone on another bed, a smile on his face. Everything was going according to plan; Kong Demin was the final matter he needed to deal with.

The hatred of losing a wife cannot go unavenged, it’s just a matter of time.

Early the next morning, Kong Mengjie came over and saw Kong Menglin lying on the bed, tears streaming down.

She knew that blaming wouldn’t help anymore.

She went to find Dehong in the morning to get Menglin’s clothes but didn’t understand why she had so many new clothes.

She took out a lunchbox with steamed egg custard made in the morning. ”Menglin, get up and eat.”

”Sis.”

”Don’t say anything. Just focus on recovering.”

Watching her sister eat all the egg custard from the lunchbox, she felt relieved.

”Miss Kong, here’s some brown sugar and breakfast. I’m heading to work.”

”Thank you so much, comrade.”

”No need to thank me. It’s what I should do.”

”Menglin, I’ll get some water to wash you up. I just asked the nurse, and it’s okay to shower, then you can change clothes.”

Kong Demin arrived at the office in the morning, and after the morning meeting, he went straight to interrogate the wife of Cheng Changsheng.

Feng Dequan already knew his transfer to the city was coming, and he hardly paid attention to work here. He was just waiting for the transfer order, as Kong Demin would be taking over his position, it was unnecessary to offend him.

Chen Fengzhi had been terrified all night, not drinking a single sip of water, feeling especially cold.

Cheng Changsheng hadn’t even come to see her.

Brought out to see the man sitting across, the one who left with that woman yesterday.

”Chen Fengzhi, the woman you assaulted yesterday miscarried due to severe injuries and will never have children again. Additionally, her external injuries are severe. Your actions constitute a crime, and our Revolutionary Committee will transfer you to the court.”

”That woman came to my house strutting around. She seduced my man and even asked me what to do. Shouldn’t such a person be beaten?”

”You can reason out any matter, but you resorted to violence, and it’s you who committed assault.”

”I’m not convinced! I want to see Cheng Changsheng.”

Kong Demin gestured, and before long, Cheng Changsheng came over.

He hadn’t slept all night, deeply regretting why he hadn’t controlled himself, why he got involved with that filthy woman.

He noticed nothing unusual at work today; Kong Demin hadn’t said anything at the morning meeting. Yet he knew he couldn’t escape this.

In the interrogation room, seeing his wife filled him with an uncomfortable feeling. Though he had disdain for her, she bore him two children and devoted herself wholeheartedly to him.

Kong Demin went over the situation again. ”You two talk, but the prisoner cannot be untied.” With that, he left with others.

”Cheng Changsheng, tell me, is what that woman said true?”

”Yes.”

Chen Fengzhi laughed bitterly. How ironic. She treated him so well, yet he treated her this way.

”Fengzhi, if this escalates, I’ll lose my job, and you’ll definitely be jailed. I’ll take the kids back to our hometown.”

Chen Fengzhi lowered her head, not responding to Cheng Changsheng’s words.

Soon, Wang Dajiang came in. ”Captain Cheng, Director Kong asked me to come check on how things are going. We’re about to transfer her to the court.”

”Dajiang, what’s the situation specifically?”

”Captain Cheng, in the middle of the night, Kong Menglin woke up, Director Kong went over, and I overheard everything. She insists on marrying you.

Director Kong didn’t say much. I think he’s agreed.”

Hearing their conversation made Chen Fengzhi especially sad. But thinking of the two kids and her future, tears started flowing.

”I have more to say.”

Wang Dajiang tactfully withdrew.

”Cheng Changsheng, if I go to jail, will you divorce me?”

Cheng Changsheng looked at her with complex emotions but didn’t say anything. But after being together for over ten years, how could Chen Fengzhi not understand him.

”If you’re going to be Director’s brother-in-law, then everything will be fine, and you won’t lose your job?”

”Yes.”

”Alright then, I agree to the divorce.”

”Fengzhi, I truly detest Kong Menglin inside. Besides, she won’t have kids in the future, everything I have is for our sons.”

”Fine, I agree.” Chen Fengzhi knew about Kong Menglin being unable to have children. This relieved the worry of having a stepfather. Whatever she could give the kids, this was it.

”Wait a moment, I need to find out for sure.” Cheng Changsheng wasn’t willing to tell his wife that Kong Menglin had more than just him, it was a matter of male dignity and pride.

Cheng Changsheng left the room and went directly to Kong Demin’s office.

”Director Kong, I want to know what you intend.”

”My intent? Are you just going to get away easily for sleeping with my sister? Once this is resolved, we’ll settle your matter.”

”Director Kong, Kong Menglin and I weren’t together for the first time.”

”Cheng Changsheng, if you’re a man, don’t shirk responsibility. Fine, for you to be utterly convinced, let’s go to the hospital and let you face my sister directly.”

Cheng Changsheng still wanted to resist, so the two went to the hospital together.

At this time, Kong Mengjie had already finished cleaning Menglin and changed her clothes.

”Second brother, why did you come here?”

”Kong Mengjie, leave.”

Kong Mengjie worriedly glanced at her sister before leaving.

”Menglin, Cheng Changsheng came over. He told me you’ve been with him more than once.”

Kong Menglin’s face was full of sarcasm. ”What a way to shirk responsibility.”
