Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

In the blink of an eye, the Lantern Festival was here, and tomorrow, Jiang Xinyu would start school.

The two children didn’t seem to have any trouble adjusting to their mom going to school.

Jiang Xinyu felt both happy and sad, happy because the children were sensible and not needy or clingy, sad because they didn’t rely on her.

Anyway, she felt like she had developed a fear of being a mom. Today, she would take the kids to call Wei Kaiyun to see if he had received the photos.

When Wei Kaiyun received the call from the children, Lu Weiqi was in his office. He was surprised to see Director Wei’s face immediately change, the kind of joyful smile that made one’s jaw drop.

Wei Kaiyun chatted with the two children for a while, then reminded Jiang Xinyu to take care of herself.

After hanging up the phone, he saw Lu Weiqi looking at him in surprise. He just smiled and didn’t say anything.

The tasks for their textile factory didn’t decrease in the new year, but they weren’t as tight as before.

Jiang Xinyu pushed the two children home. Listening to Wei Kaiyun’s tone, it seemed like everything was fine. It was already 1965, and the fate of Wei Kaiyun in the book had long changed course, but things were about to get chaotic, and she was still very worried about him.

She remembered that the person above would be overthrown next year. She wondered if Wei Kaiyun would be implicated.

Next year she could go back. Although she wasn’t capable of changing much, she still wanted to stay by his side, the four of them together as a family.

After school started, the classmates hadn’t changed much, but now they were juniors, with a little over a year left before going their separate ways, so everyone unknowingly became much closer, knowing that meeting opportunities would be rare in the future.

Jiang Xinyu’s daily life was routine and unchanging, which made her very satisfied. Perhaps she was too content and didn’t want life to change at all.

In the Provincial City, Wei Kaiyun received a registered letter from his wife. Looking at the photo of Niang San, he felt the kids had grown a lot, and not being around them meant seeing their changes every time.

The little girl was so adorable, with her chubby cheeks and round eyes that smiled. How could this daughter of his be so cute? The child seemed to have inherited the best features of both parents, much more beautiful than Shi Jing.

The son wasn’t bad either. From his eyes, one could tell he was a clever little boy.

His wife hadn’t changed much, still making him yearn for her.

In a year and four months, they should be back. There’s no rush; time will pass quickly.

Kong Mengjie sent Huang Jianfeng back to her mom’s house again. There was no other choice; by September, she could pick him up, and he could go to kindergarten.

”Mom, Jianfeng will go to school in September. I’ll come to pick him up when Tiantian’s vacation starts in July.”

”Grandma, Grandma, I brought you some rice candy.”

Tian Shulan looked at the child she had raised, a big smile on her face.

”Mengjie, go back and tell your second brother to come home for a visit.”

”Okay, I’ll tell him today when I go back.”

”Mengjie, can’t you really find a job there?”

”Mom, do you think I would lie about this? If I could, would I not care?”

”Well, Dehong is doing fine working with your second brother, but Meng Lin is a girl, and a stable job is better for her.”

”Mom, there’s really nothing we can do there. Let’s see what my second brother thinks.”

Kong Mengjie returned to the county town without going home, and directly asked Huang Hongwei to ride to Second Brother’s workplace.

”Mengjie, what brings you here?”

Huang Hongwei smiled and greeted Kong Demin.

”Second Brother, I sent Jianfeng to Mom’s place again today. Mom asked me to tell you to go back for a visit.”

Kong Demin nodded, ”Is it about Dehong and Meng Lin’s jobs?”

Kong Mengjie nodded, ”Yes, our textile factory really can’t arrange any more people, not even temporary workers. But Mom is worried about Meng Lin and wants to find her a stable job.”

”I talked to Meng Xiu Fen and suggested that Meng Lin work as a clerk at the Women’s Federation for now, but it’s also temporary.”

”That’s good enough. Alright, Second Brother, I’m heading back now. I still have to pick up Tiantian.”

Since there was no work in the afternoon, Kong Demin rode his bike home directly.

Tian Shulan saw her son return home, ”Demin, have you eaten yet?”

”Not yet.”

”Wait, I’ll make you some egg pancakes.”

Huang Jianfeng ran over joyfully and hugged his leg, ”Second Uncle, Second Uncle, you’re here? Where’s Sister Yu Jing?”

”Your Sister Yu Jing is at school. You’ll be going to school soon too.”

The little guy nodded happily, ”Second Uncle, I want to go to school too.”

Kong Demin patted his head, suddenly thinking about why his own son still hadn’t spoken.

Thinking of this, he frowned, looking down at his nephew, then recalling his own son’s drooling and dazed look, he started to wonder if there was something wrong with the child.

His son was already a year old; could there be an issue? The thought made Kong Demin uneasy.

”Second Uncle, what’s wrong?”

”Nothing, Jianfeng, be good at Grandma’s house.”

”Hmm, I’ll be good. I’ll listen to Grandma and Grandpa.”

At this moment, Tian Shulan brought a bowl over, placing it on the table, ”Demin, have a quick bite. Jianfeng, do you want some?”

”Grandma, I’ll just have a bite.” Smelling the fragrance, how could he not want to eat?

Kong Demin reluctantly sat down, picked up a piece, and handed it to Huang Jianfeng.

”Mom, why did you call me back?”

”You only came back once during the New Year. Can’t I call you back?”

”No, you know I’m working now, right? Is it about Dehong and Meng Lin’s jobs?”

”Yes, Mengjie and her husband are out of options; only you can solve it.”

”Mom, let Dehong work with us, and Meng Lin go to the Women’s Federation, but both of them will be temporary workers. They need to perform well to get a permanent position in the future.”

”Can’t they be full-time workers?”

After asking, Tian Shulan saw the impatient expression on her second son’s face and immediately changed her tune.

”Temporary workers will do. Didn’t the girl from the Wang Family get regularized after more than a year? They will graduate in July, let them find you then?”

”Yes, I’ll arrange it in advance and let them go after graduation.

Mom, I’m heading back. I still need to work.”

Tian Shulan prepared half a bag of potatoes and cabbage for her son and saw him off.

Kong Demin hurried back home, opened the door, and saw Zheng Xiuchun helping their son walk in the yard.

”Second Brother Kong, why are you back at this time?”

”It’s nothing. Xiao Xiang, is Changjun walking now?”

”Not yet, but I can support him to take a few steps.”

Kong Demin squatted down, looking at his son drooling and smiling foolishly, thinking he didn’t seem as sharp as Jianfeng.

”Second Brother Kong, what’s wrong?”

”Xiao Xiang, do you think Changjun is foolish?”

”Second Brother Kong, I don’t know. My nephew could walk when he was a year old but wasn’t talking yet either.”
