Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Also, if you can’t get your graduation certificates, then don’t go, you can’t be a temp for life.”

Kong Dehong and Kong Menglin both lowered their heads and said nothing.

Kong Menglin was a bit scared now; ever since she found out she had a job, she hadn’t looked at her books. If she really couldn’t get her graduation certificate, she guessed Dad would definitely not let her go to the county.

That evening she began burning the midnight oil, with less than ten days left, she had to hurry up.

Kong Dehong’s grades have always been average. He wasn’t as vain as Kong Menglin, and he remained his usual self, so he wasn’t worried about not getting his graduation certificate.

Kong Menglin’s frivolous heart settled down now.

On the eighth, after leaving the examination room, she felt like she had shed a layer of skin; it was so difficult.

But now she’s about to head to the county, it’s worth it, she’s finally relieved.

Now, all the classmates in their class know that the two siblings are going to work in the county. The boys are all paying attention to Kong Menglin; getting a wife with a job isn’t bad either, as all the students are rural children from nearby villages. Of course, everyone envies those who have a job.

Kong Menglin felt like a queen, holding her head high as she walked ahead, accepting everyone’s envy.

In the afternoon, when she got home, she put away her outside airs and became honest and straightforward.

Today, Tian Shulan had already prepared luggage, food, and grains at home for the two kids.

”How did the exams go?”

”Mom, I think it’s no problem. We can’t get the graduation certificates until the twentieth.”

”Alright, you two take leave that day, let your third brother ride your second brother’s bicycle to bring you back to collect it.”

”Okay.” Actually, they were just too anxious, fearing that the job would be gone, so they went straight after the exams.

The next day, early in the morning, Kong Zhongyou drove the donkey cart to send the two kids.

”Uncle, will you stay at my house?” Huang Jianfeng asked.

”No, uncle will stay at your second uncle’s; your family doesn’t have a room for me.”

”Uncle, have a meal at my house.”

”Okay, I’ll have a meal at your house.”

Kong Zhongyou was quite satisfied after hearing what his grandson said, thinking it wasn’t a waste to raise him.

Kong Mengjie knew Dad was sending her younger siblings and son back today, so she took leave and even went out of her way to buy meat, preparing a meal at home, waiting.

At noon, Huang Hongwei even specifically bought three kinds of dishes from the cafeteria and bought twenty flower rolls. Then he waited on the roadside for his father-in-law to come over.

From afar, he saw the donkey cart approaching, and Huang Hongwei hurried to meet them.

”Dad, let’s go to my house first; Mengjie has already prepared the meal. After we eat, we’ll go find my second brother.”

”You’re not working this afternoon?”

”With you coming over, how could I go to work? I’ve arranged everything for Dehong and Menglin.”

Even though initially Kong Zhongyou wasn’t satisfied with Huang Hongwei, because he was too old, only a little over a decade younger than himself, but after so many years of marriage, he really treated his daughter well, and showed great dedication to the family.

Dehong jumped down to greet his brother-in-law, while Huang Jianfeng kept calling ”Dad.”

Kong Menglin just called ”Brother-in-law” and nothing else.

Sister had found someone so much older, and she had been mocked by others for a time, plus sister hadn’t arranged a job for her; although she didn’t want to work, it was different, it had to be her choice, not that she wasn’t cared for.

So she really didn’t like her sister’s family. Actually, the main reason was that she wasn’t as good-looking as sister; she has always been jealous of sister since they were young.

Kong Zhongyou drove the cart to Kong Mengjie’s doorstep. Seeing Kong Mengjie rush out from inside.

”Dad, you’re here, come in quickly, I’ll fetch water for you to wash up.”

”Dehong, Menglin, you hurry up and come in too, knowing you were coming, I specially went to buy meat.”

”Big Sister, that’s great, I’ve been craving it.”

”Big Sister.”

”Yeah, come inside.” Kong Mengjie smiled and nodded, then went to pick up Huang Jianfeng sitting in the cart, but Huang Hongwei intercepted, hugging the child.

Kong Zhongyou let them take the luggage inside, along with recently harvested potatoes and vegetables from the yard prepared for the eldest daughter’s home.

The three of them finished washing up and sat at the dining table, and Huang Hongwei poured a drink for his father-in-law.

”Dad, have some wine.” Kong Zhongyou was quite satisfied with today’s dishes.

”With you pregnant, why did you make so many dishes?”

”Dad, only the meat was cooked by me, rice was made by me, the rest was fetched from the cafeteria.”

”Your cafeteria’s meals are really good, that four hundred yuan was indeed well spent.”

Kong Mengjie just smiled; actually, she really didn’t like to mention that her job was bought.

The family sat together, Kong Mengjie sat beside the child, giving him food.

”Mengjie, you have your meal, I can serve him.”

”Dad, Mom, I can do it myself. You should eat too.”

Kong Zhongyou drank wine, ate meat, and was very pleased. ”Mengjie, do you have any contact with Xinyu, that girl?”

”What’s up, Dad?”

”There are too many educated youths going to the countryside. I went to a meeting a few days ago; it was said that next time, six educated youths from Shanghai would be sent to our village.

With so many people, and both male and female, accommodations simply aren’t enough; I’m just thinking, since her house isn’t occupied, could the educated youths stay there?”

Kong Mengjie shook her head, ”Dad, Jiang Xinyu definitely wouldn’t agree.”

”Why?”

”She’s quite a sharp person, she definitely wouldn’t let others live in her house.

Also, she’ll graduate from college by this time next year; her deputy director position is guaranteed, we’d better not offend her. There’s no need, if we can’t, we’ll just build anew.”

Kong Zhongyou took a sip of wine, thought for a moment, ”Okay, then I’ll go back and arrange people to build a house.”

”Why wouldn’t Jiang Xinyu agree?” Kong Menglin immediately objected. Jiang Xinyu is four years older than her, and now is even a university student, of course, she was jealous.

”Shut up, you’re really brainless. If you were half as smart as your sister, I wouldn’t worry.”

”Dad.” Kong Menglin felt particularly embarrassed.

”Kong Menglin, I still say the same; you’d better behave, be thoughtful. Think before you speak; if you cause trouble, you come back with me to farm.”

Kong Menglin dared not speak up, she lowered her head and continued eating.

”Dad, don’t be angry. Menglin is smart, once she works for a while, she’ll be fine, don’t worry.”

”You’re about a month away from giving birth, right?”

”Yes.”

”Menglin, when your sister gives birth, you come over to look after her.”

”Dad, Dad, no need for Menglin, I’m here; you and Mom don’t worry anymore. Besides, Jianfeng will start kindergarten in September. These years have really been hard on you two.” Huang Hongwei immediately shifted the topic, unwilling to rely on this sister-in-law. Even if she came to help, he wouldn’t trust her, better to tire himself out.
