System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

April’s spring breeze warms China, thousands of lights flickering.

Hua Country is vast and resourceful, governing 23 provinces, 4 direct-controlled municipalities, 5 autonomous regions, and 2 special administrative regions.

Xiang Province is just one moderately sized province, also nestled between prosperity and slight prosperity.

Xiang Province has 13 prefecture-level cities, 1 autonomous prefecture.

Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture is the most economically backward region.

Ji City, the Xiangzhou Prefecture seat, surrounded by modern strips of light, hosts 420,000 residents living and bustling, a sea of humanity.

Many engage in nightlife, and quite a few seek it out.

The barbecue stall where Lu Cheng is stationed is just one of the hundreds of night food stalls in Ji City.

Among Lu Cheng and his crew, they are at most slightly notable at this barbecue stall.

...

Mu Nanshu started again: ”Among us, those who know clinical practices better are Lu Cheng, Dai Linfang, Xie Yuan’an, and Brother Zhang Xibei.”

”The direction we are going to proceed with is mainly to conduct in-depth research on the broad notion of splenic function reconstruction.”

”Besides Lu Cheng, the one who understands suturing best among us is Xie Yuan’an.”

”As for Professor Tong Yuan’an, he’s not someone we can just direct at will; he’s deeply immersed in hand surgery and wouldn’t easily shift directions.”

”Professor Chen Song, on the other hand, has already expressed that his work focus will lean towards the broader direction of Liver Preservation Surgery.”

”The spleen, an organ that can be preserved or removed, relatively less essential, its functions quantified specifically, is precisely the testing stone for our team.”

”Dai Linfang, I’ve reflected for a long time, and I feel that our team’s current foundation jumping right into reconstructing digestive function is too great a leap.”

”So after discussing with Lu Cheng, we’ve decided to temporarily hold off on tackling the tremendously challenging digestive function reconstruction topic...”

Dai Linfang, having failed before, knew this topic was hard to tackle, nodded and then shook his head: ”Are we here for a gathering, or to switch workplaces?”

”Boss Mu, can we be allowed to have a good meal first, just boasting without thinking like Brother Lu, not talking specifically about work tasks?”

Dai Linfang’s tone was slightly lacking, but even Xie Yuan’an didn’t rebut him.

Childhood has its burdens, adolescence its wild imaginations, young adulthood its awkwardness, and older youth its pressure...

”Then let’s eat first. I won’t bring up these matters now.” Mu Nanshu timely withdrew the topic.

Just as she spoke, she instinctively tossed two duck feet towards Lu Cheng.

Xie Yuan’an stretched out his hand and grabbed one: ”Xiao Mumu, don’t favor too much.”

”The disposable bowls here are all standard-sized, Lu Cheng’s bowl hasn’t expanded.”

Mu Nanshu’s actions were purely instinctive; after being called out by Xie Yuan’an, she straightforwardly pulled back her hand.

Reflecting internally.

When the forest is large, there will be all sorts of birds; a large team is hard to lead.

The atmosphere became somewhat awkward for a moment, fortunately, Lu Cheng promptly broke the impending silence: ”Zhang Xibei, have you considered looking for a clinical job elsewhere?”

After getting familiar with Zhang Xibei, Lu Cheng no longer addressed him as Brother Xibei with politeness. He was older than Zhang Xibei by some months.

Zhang Xibei nodded, spit out the chicken feet bones in his mouth, then wiped his mouth: ”Brother Lu, I had thought about, like you and Dr. Dai, finding a job to boost my income.”

”But my foundation is still too thin, currently struggling with regular tasks within the group.”

”Though the subsidies the group provides aren’t much, life is sufficient, just can’t save much money.”

”For now, I won’t affiliate.”

”Crafting standard animal models and surgical procedures have similar subtleties, the skills at hand won’t vanish quickly, better to sharpen the blade first.”

At this, Zhang Xibei glanced at Ni Xixin: ”My old schoolmate intends to recommend me to pursue a doctorate, which I’m still considering.”

After starting work, you’ll realize people don’t care if you have a master’s or doctorate; you need to get things done.

Whether in hospitals or research groups, they won’t hire a doctorate for nothing.

Doctorates that can’t bring value, in the eyes of superiors and leaders, are worthless!

Of course, pursuing a master’s or doctorate is certainly a shortcut to self-improvement.

Seeking out mentors, joining a professional research team for targeted learning and formal training, whether as fleeting sands or not, it leaves something behind.

Logically, among those present, Lu Cheng is the floor tile of qualifications.

Yet Zhang Xibei knows he is currently the biggest shortcoming in the team.

As a shortcoming, not reflecting on self-improvement, only focusing on how much others earn, expecting the same economic treatment as others while having ’scientific research output’ treatment.

Why should that be?

Zhang Xibei doesn’t consider himself particularly handsome, daring only to honestly earn his keep through skills.

Lu Cheng straightforwardly said: ”Zhang Xibei, what I mean is, currently in the lab practicing surgical techniques are Qu Daowen and Professor Dong Liumeng, though they’re professors of the Trauma Center, they also involve general surgery.”

”You can ask them for advice more often.”

Zhang Xibei was slightly taken aback, then nodded seriously: ”Alright, I’m just afraid they don’t want to waste time.”

”If they don’t want to waste time, you could save them money. Supply their need, that kind of exchange won’t suffer.”

”Currently, after engaging with the Trauma Center, I realized two things are insufficient: first is time, second is reliable people.”
