System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Chen Song had also stayed in Ji City, so there was no barrier in discussing tastes.

After placing his order, Chen Song looked at Dai Linfang with a relaxed tone: ”Xiao Dai, how are the psychological states of the two professors currently anchored in your department?”

When Dai Linfang joined the team, Chen Song was leaving Ji City, and at this moment, Dai Linfang felt that Chen Song was deliberately withdrawing from the scene.

Chen Song might know that being together with Lu Cheng would make him feel ”awkward.”

However, what Dai Linfang thought about was not just this point: ”It’s alright, apart from being emo for a while previously, they’re now seriously doing their studies.”

”Except for occasionally complaining about earning and spending money in Ji City, there’s no other issue.”

”Right?” Dai Linfang asked Lu Cheng.

Lu Cheng was more familiar with Qu Daowen and Dong Liumeng.

Lu Cheng nodded and then passed the menu sideways to Mu Nanshu to let her decide: ”Teacher Chen, the two professors are currently working hard, and I feel somewhat ashamed.”

Upon hearing these words, Chen Song’s smile froze suddenly.

The chin, slightly raised, hesitated whether to maintain its position or lower a bit.

At this moment, Chen Song was thinking on many levels, his tone hesitant: ”What you want to say must be more than this.”

Chen Song was asking Dai Linfang.

Lu Cheng had mentioned multiple times to Dai Linfang about Chen Song’s gratitude of recognition towards him, so Dai Linfang dared not joke with Chen Song:

”Professor Chen, actually it’s just about shifting the mindset and learning calmly.”

”In the pursuit of knowledge, there is always an order, and in professional skills, there are specialized areas.”

”Professor Qu and Professor Dong have spent a lifetime converting traditional surgeries into minimally invasive surgeries, pursuing minimally invasive techniques.”

”To turn these ideas into reality in the emergency department is quite challenging.”

Dai Linfang spoke rather gently.

The main point is, Lu Cheng occasionally expressed during Professor Qu Daowen’s teaching that it would be great if Teacher Chen were there…

But in essence, Chen Song is a proud person and doesn’t entertain such ”what ifs.”

Chen Song’s jaw started to move unpredictably, his expression slightly changing.

Seeing this, Lu Cheng hurried to defuse the situation: ”Teacher Chen, Professor Qu and Professor Dong are following a slightly different path from yours.”

”They.”

Chen Song suddenly muttered: ”I understand what Dai Linfang means.”

”I’m not at an age of confusion yet.”

”Even Director Xiang, the superior in the department, has pointed this out to me many times.”

”But?”

Right now, Chen Song’s thoughts were very tangled and complicated.

Am I not Lu Cheng’s teacher?

A year ago, Lu Cheng really was my student, and I guided him step by step to grow.

At that time, he would report his learning progress to me every day, and it was I who took him through the rigorous training of clinical work.

Later, on a certain day, he suddenly grew up, and I could no longer help.

So, at this time, shouldn’t I withdraw?

Isn’t it improper for me, a teacher, to be clingy to Lu Cheng, leeching off his progress?

Is there such a way to be a teacher?

Moreover, if I kept sticking around Lu Cheng and seeking his advice, wouldn’t that be too inappropriate?

How would my doctoral students and students perceive me, Chen Song?

These questions have lingered in Chen Song’s mind for a very long time.

”Teacher Chen, no one is saying you’re old.” Lu Cheng hurriedly interjected.

At this time, Mu Nanshu and Xie Yuan’an finished ordering and went to find the owner to confirm the menu.

Xie Yuan’an thoughtfully asked everyone what drinks they wanted, as they planned to go out and buy them.

Dai Linfang requested a bottle of coconut milk, then turned back around and pierced through the ’awkward scene’ between Lu Cheng and Chen Song: ”Professor Chen, ultimately, it’s the identities you and Lu Cheng have set for each other that’s holding you back.”

”One wants to share, and the other also wants to be shared with, but you can’t let go of the mental barrier.”

”One thinks, this is my teacher, should I be more careful with my words?”

”The other thinks, this is my student, should I be more cautious in interacting with him…”

As Dai Linfang spoke, seeing the four eyes from two heads looking at her, she quickly added: ”I’m not being sarcastic; I’m just stating a fact.”

”As the saying goes, ’The onlookers see clearly,’ but even onlookers see it as if watching a distant fire, eager to stir things up.”

”In essence, isn’t it just a matter of wanting to learn but not daring to speak, and wanting to teach but not daring to speak up?”

”Why make it so complicated.”

Upon hearing this, both Lu Cheng and Chen Song’s expressions shifted abruptly.

Lu Cheng’s expression changed as he turned his gaze to Chen Song’s face, while Chen Song’s expression became embarrassed and restrained like a child.

However, Lu Cheng didn’t try to comfort him with words.

Since he realized the gradual demystification of Professor Chen Song’s capability and status in his heart, Lu Cheng had anticipated that one day in the future, when standing in place to look down.

He would still see Teacher Chen Song standing there…

But Lu Cheng couldn’t have predicted Chen Song’s expression.

Now, he was seeing it for real.

Chen Song felt a kind of frustration akin to adolescent worries: ”Is this really appropriate?”

He wasn’t asking the two of them, but himself.

”Teacher Chen, let’s not talk about this, just chat about the profession or just have a casual talk.” Lu Cheng hastily moved the topic away.

Chen Song is not Tong Yuan’an, and Tong Yuan’an cannot become Chen Song.

Similarly, no matter how good Xie Xiao, Zhong Junyun, or others are to Lu Cheng, they cannot become Chen Song.

This isn’t about how many flowers can be added to a brocade.

The fate and gratitude of recognition will be remembered in one’s heart for a long time.
