System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Prosthetics are considered medical devices and part of the rehabilitation field, typically something that the rehabilitation department should pay attention to.”

Luo You’s eyes showed extreme disappointment for a moment: ”Director Lu, you haven’t been paying attention either? I thought you would be interested.”

”But that’s normal. Many top hospitals in China don’t focus on this field.”

Lu Cheng shook his head: ”Sorry, Brother Luo, once again I’m going to disappoint you.”

Luo You quickly shook his head too: ”No, Director Lu, please don’t misunderstand my intentions.”

”My niece has had bad luck and misfortune, injured at such a difficult time—it’s just her fate.”

”I didn’t mean to blame you.”

”I am also a doctor and I’m trying to see if there’s any remedy after the amputation has happened.”

”But at the moment, even though I’ve inquired about some information, there are very few teams in this area doing research, let alone achieving results.”

”It then falls to overseas...”

”But I’m not familiar with overseas options either.” Clearly, Luo You has abandoned the idea of taking his niece abroad to create prosthetics.

If his family had such resources, his niece wouldn’t be residing permanently in Ji City.

There’d even be a chance to directly arrange a helicopter to fly to Zhongnan Hospital for limb preservation surgery.

”Brother Luo, don’t be too sensitive. I haven’t thought about it like that.”

”Actually, many prosthetics on the market are quite useful.”

”Destructive injury, this thing?”

Lu Cheng sat down and sighed: ”In fact, it is a negative byproduct of technological development, which did not exist previously.”

In the era of slow carriages and horses, the only way to cause destructive injuries was to keep hammering away.

Before industrial machines, short limbs could only be hacked with a knife!

And the ability to sever a human bone with one stroke was only possible at the master level.

”Yes, there’s no way around it.”

Luo You said: ”Actually, progress is a good thing. We just fear it won’t be fast enough and that other aspects won’t keep up with the pace of development.”

”Director Lu, you need to perform surgery later, so I won’t disturb you any longer.”

Luo You said this and was about to get up.

Lu Cheng hesitated for a moment, but still asked: ”Brother Luo, I heard that you’re not feeling well physically?”

”But I didn’t hear anything detailed, can you elaborate?”

Designing specialized prosthetics is certainly beyond Lu Cheng’s expertise as it is too distant from his current field.

However, hearing that Luo You is infertile surprised Lu Cheng.

What kind of infertility can’t be overcome with today’s scientific technologies?

Techniques like in vitro fertilization and artificial insemination are already very mature unless Luo You has chromosome issues.

If Luo You had chromosome issues, would he still be a practicing doctor?

Upon hearing this, Luo You’s face changed drastically; he glanced up and down at Lu Cheng: ”Director Lu, what do you mean?”

Lu Cheng replied truthfully: ”Brother Luo, to be candid, I’m currently working on a project called the Functional Reconstruction Skill.”

”The preliminary expectation for this technology is to address the rigidity of limb function after ’destruction injury,’ hoping to synchronize limb preservation surgery and ’Functional Reconstruction Skill’.”

”However, as you should know, what is referred to as the Functional Reconstruction Skill is nothing more than specific variants of basic technologies like neural function reconstruction and nerve displacement.”

Seeing Luo You’s face become even grimmer, Lu Cheng became more straightforward: ”I mean precisely what you think.”

”But at the same time, it’s not what you think, Brother Luo.”

”I hope you can provide me with detailed information on your medical records, so our team has the opportunity to replicate your current condition into an animal model...”

Luo You’s mouth opened slightly: ”You want to use me for research?”

”No personal privacy information will be disclosed, purely for research.”

”Brother Luo, you’re in the same industry yourself, you surely understand.”

”Of course, this is entirely voluntary from Brother Luo, not compulsory.”

”Honestly, my wife also provided original research data for our project team; her hand was injured.” Lu Cheng replied.

Luo You’s expression softened, and he sighed helplessly.

To be honest, for a man, losing fertility or losing ’that’ is a devastating blow.

One of men’s instincts is to continue the family line.

Previously, Luo You didn’t care about these ’traditional sayings,’ but after losing this ability, he increasingly felt the necessity of ancestral systems.

”If it were someone else, I definitely wouldn’t give it.”

”But Director Lu, I am willing to.” Luo You nodded, hesitated for a long time, and then agreed.

The hospital also conducts research, but their research is mainly for career advancement and paper writing, not for clinical practice and patients.

What Lu Cheng is doing is practical clinical research, making breakthroughs based on patients’ clinical issues.

In Luo You’s view, it’s grounded in reality.

”Thank you, Brother Luo, rest assured, I only need objective data, none of the subjective data.”

”Objective data includes only gender, discovery time, a brief treatment process, and objective examination results.” Lu Cheng, having done research, is very meticulous about privacy protection.

Luo You said with a smile: ”Director Lu, I’m Luo You, I’m not that famous.”

”Even if those three words ’infertile’ were branded on my forehead, it wouldn’t affect any social ethos.”

”It doesn’t matter.”

Luo You felt a sense of hopelessness in his heart.

Lu Cheng continued: ”Brother Luo, regarding this prosthetic you just talked about, it really is a blind spot in my knowledge, but I’ll look into it.”

”And thank you for the science lesson.”

Luo You glanced around: ”Director Lu, you really are a straightforward person. Others who care about face would probably say, ’seen it, but not familiar.’”

...

Dai Linfang probably did some under-the-table dealings for the juniors in the department.

He wasn’t there during the conversation and signing, but he rushed to the operating room as soon as the sterilization drapes were laid out.

Then, this time, he proactively took over the wound cleaning skill for destructive injuries.

Just as Dai Linfang had entered not long ago, another person happily pushed open the air-tight door of the operating room.

Having already disinfected and washed his hands, he religiously raised his hands, forcing a smile: ”Director Lu, Dr. Dai, sorry, there was a bit of a traffic jam on my way here.”

”Slightly late!~”

”Tonight, I’ll treat everyone for dinner as punishment, alright?”

It was none other than Deputy Director Dou Kongyue from the Trauma Surgery department.

He, too, learned Xiang Dahong’s way and shamelessly came to learn surgery.

Lu Cheng and Dai Linfang exchanged a glance, seeing surprise in each other’s eyes.

To be honest, putting aside one’s dignity to learn is neither shameful nor degrading.

Being a student doesn’t mean wearing a lowly label.

A director like Xiang Dahong can set aside his director status, so another deputy director physician putting aside his pride to learn without shame is quite normal.

It’s a kind of atmosphere.

Actually, many people in city-level hospitals are eager to learn, they just struggle, some techniques have no place to learn, and they are hard to learn.

This has resulted in a widespread ’lying flat’ atmosphere.

”Director Dou, today you can only watch, as I’ve already taken the wound cleaning technique from Director Lu.” When vying for surgical expertise, Dai Linfang shows no ’sense of propriety’!

Dou Kongyue had already figured it out: ”That’s true, I still need to slowly practice my basic skills.”

”I can’t trouble the teacher.”

Before taking a college course, elementary students first need to self-study high school material.

Social learning is not classroom-based, it’s teachers feeding you information.

You can learn or not learn.

You can live or not live.

You can die or not die, no one cares.

The adult world is that realistic, it’s all up to you.

Once Dou Kongyue squeezed onto the platform, Lu Cheng’s position became constrained, though internally thinking about others coming to steal his skill points.

But Lu Cheng wasn’t petty.

How much can Dai Linfang and the others take?

This limb preservation surgery for destructive injuries wasn’t brought out by his team research, the skills they learn have no ’additional skill points.’

Still, when Dai Linfang completes vascular and tendon sutures, he will give back some points.

Since Dou Kongyue also intends to learn, he definitely must also pay some ’protection fee.’

”Director Dou, this limb preservation surgery for destructive injuries is a lengthy learning cycle.”

”From first exposure to now, I’ve prepared for nearly a year.” Lu Cheng unashamedly extended the learning timeline.

”It doesn’t matter if it’s long, it’s okay if it takes longer.” Dou Kongyue’s resolve was firm.

Dou Kongyue may understand what Lu Cheng means: ”Teacher Lu will always be around, and Teacher Dai will always be there.”

One will always be here, while the other will always remain here.
