System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Xiangzhou People’s Hospital, Trauma Surgery Department.

Director’s Office.

The large window greedily absorbed the light from outside, making the office bright and sunny.

The light poured in like a pillar, with specks of dust gently floating in the air.

Dou Kongyue, the associate chief physician, had the light on his right cheek. As he poured tea, his eyes slightly squinted: ”Director Wu, that trauma center, Lu Cheng indeed managed to support it.”

”I really couldn’t have imagined it before.”

”There were some people who were planning to see him fail, but now, they’ve all shut their mouths.”

Wu Xiang, with his legs crossed, was scrolling through his phone. The content wasn’t related to Lu Cheng, as he didn’t have the heart to focus on Lu Cheng.

Without looking up, Wu Xiang continued scrolling through the documents: ”Who wanted to see him fail?”

Dou Kongyue, with his strong arms, turned and slowly put down the tea cup in his hand with a slightly stiff movement, like a Barbie doll: ”The one who most wanted to see a joke was none other than Dong Chang from the Gastrointestinal Department.”

”The others don’t really matter.”

Wu Xiang didn’t hear any familiar names and looked up: ”Who is Dong Chang?”

Dou Kongyue sat down, pouring himself a cup of tea as well: ”Director Wu, Dong Chang is an associate chief physician in the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department. He’s barely at the same level as me.”

”Our hospital’s Vice President Xiang Kun is his uncle.”

”Our Orthopedic Department’s Xiang Dahong was smoothly promoted this year. He was envious and wanted an opportunity to advance himself as well.”

”Lu Cheng simply ignores his challenges. Privately, Dong Chang often speaks ill of Lu Cheng.”

Wu Xiang instantly found it uninterested: ”What kind of waves can an associate chief physician create?”

”I thought it would be Yang Wenxiao or Yang Pengfei causing trouble.”

The Gastrointestinal Surgery Department at State People’s Hospital has three chief physicians; Yang Wenxiao and Yang Pengfei are veteran directors whom Director Wu Xiang is familiar with.

Dou Kongyue shook his head: ”I haven’t heard anything from the two Director Yangs of the Gastrointestinal Department for now.”

”Director Wu, Lu Cheng is really ruthless.”

”First, it was the Spleen Preservation Surgery, then the Laparoscopic Spleen Preservation Surgery, and now he’s come up with a new Limb Preservation Surgery for damaged limbs.”

Dou Kongyue sighed deeply: ”It’s one thing to be from a different era, but why can’t people’s fortunes be the same?”

Wu Xiang put down his phone, his tone instantly tightened: ”What do you mean?”

Dou Kongyue hurriedly put down the tea cup in his hand: ”Director Wu?”

Dou Kongyue thought for a moment: ”Did I say something wrong just now?”

Wu Xiang picked up his phone again: ”You continue speaking. Is there anything else?”

”Yes, Director Wu, you asked me to keep an eye on the developments of the Trauma Center in private, so I have notified all my acquaintances.”

”Just the day before yesterday, on the 23rd, Director Huang Haibo of the Emergency Department submitted a surgical authorization request for ’Liver Repair Surgery’ to the Medical Department.”

”I asked the Liver Surgery colleagues, and they said this is quite something, it’s also quite a breakthrough.”

”Currently, our hospital’s Liver Surgery Preservation mainly relies on resection preservation, but what Lu Cheng submitted isn’t like that.”

”Lu Cheng really knows how to jump, yet I don’t know how strong his legs are...”

Dou Kongyue sighed, noticing Director Wu Xiang put down his phone again, which made him realize some past events, and he quickly said: ”But the surgeries Lu Cheng is doing have little to do with our Trauma Surgery Department.”

”Except for one Limb Preservation Surgery for damaged limbs, everything else should be concerning the directors of the General Surgery Department.”

Wu Xiang looked up again, and Dou Kongyue obviously couldn’t fail to react; back then, Lu Cheng had come to the Trauma Surgery Department looking for work.

It was Director Wu Xiang who personally rejected him.

Not to say that Director Wu Xiang can’t recognize talent, but regret is inevitable.

If such talent were in the Trauma Surgery Department, it would be like holding the ultimate trump card in Director Wu Xiang’s hand, ready to be played with invincible confidence at any time.

”Besides, many rumors say that Lu Cheng plans to leave; the truth of it remains uncertain.”

”Especially Dong Chang, he loves spreading this kind of talk outside, claiming that Lu Cheng is using the hospital, using leadership, completely lacking gratitude.”

Wu Xiang felt somewhat irritated after hearing this, waving his hand: ”You talk about the matter at hand, why discuss people?”

”What did Lu Cheng ever do to you?”

”Are his Limb Preservation efforts blocking your way?”

Dou Kongyue left a loophole for Wu Xiang, naturally, to give Wu Xiang a venting target, lest Wu Xiang hold back too much.

Being familiar with Wu Xiang, Dou Kongyue knew that once Wu Xiang verbalized his frustration, he feels better inside: ”Certainly not.”

”I just wondered how Lu Cheng managed to make Xiang Dahong from the Hand Surgery Department look like this now.”

Dou Kongyue, getting to his point of curiosity, earnestly asked for guidance: ”Director Wu, isn’t this odd? Xiang Dahong is only a year older than me, yet he’s already a chief physician, and he might take over the Hand Surgery in the future.”

”Why would he willingly follow behind Lu Cheng so eagerly?”

Wu Xiang’s gaze slowly settled down.

The Hand Surgery is a sub-specialty of Orthopedics. Xiang Dahong’s close relationship with Lu Cheng at the Trauma Center, and his recent frequent visits there, have been noticed by many in the hospital.

Xiang Dahong isn’t just a simple associate chief physician; he’s about to be promoted to chief physician soon.

Yet he runs to the Trauma Center every day, working on debridement and suturing, something many people find puzzling.

Some speculate that Lu Cheng has exceptional connections, and Xiang Dahong is trying to curry favor to advance.

Others suspect Lu Cheng’s character is poor, that he has some leverage over Xiang Dahong, forcing even a chief physician to be reverent towards him.
