System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Dai Linfang muttered: ”Even appendicitis surgery is off the table?”

”Yeah, back when you were at Xiangya, inpatient doctors would shake their heads thinking they might never perform such a basic surgery as appendicitis in their lifetime.”

”But in a County Hospital, it’s one of the chips for income.”

”That’s why Lu Cheng can only go south instead of north, using the technical gaps in County Hospitals to break through, and tendon suture is one of the fields he chose to master.”

”This starting point was quite something, as if it cleared the energy channels and everything just flowed.” Chen Song simply explained Lu Cheng’s starting method.

Lu Cheng, being considerate, steered the topic over: ”Progress in basic skills still relies on personal accumulation and guidance from a renowned teacher. This is all thanks to Teacher Chen’s attentive guidance.”

”Most of the professional surgeries I know are related to Teacher Chen in some way...”

Chen Song blushed slightly, maybe due to the influence of alcohol: ”Lu Cheng, just to remind you, I’ve taught many students...”

”These few sitting here are doctoral graduates. Their teachers are much more skilled than I am.”

”This explanation creates animosity rather than harmony.”

Lu Cheng listened and replied: ”Teacher Chen? Then I can’t very well say I don’t know why others can’t learn it?”

”One must be just a tad humble, right...”

Goodness.

When Lu Cheng is being unmodest, he truly is unmodest.

But no one took it to heart. Lu Cheng had been through the lows, and now stood high, not always elusive and mysterious.

They had just never met Lu Cheng when he was grounded, like Mu Nanshu had.

When Lu Cheng rose step by step from the ground up, that made him a grounded person.

Dai Linfang suddenly said: ”Wasn’t Brother Lu following the same routine at the State People’s Hospital?”

”All about filling the technical voids.”

”Spleen repair surgery, limb preservation surgery—any of these would be something the others in the hospital couldn’t do.”

Chen Song nodded repeatedly, then asked: ”Have you ever thought, if Lu Cheng learned already mature surgeries, he could learn them just as fast?”

”Just a matter of sharing patients to some extent with others?”

”That’s true!~” Dai Linfang didn’t argue against this thought.

He could learn the hospital’s technical voids; learning mature techniques would be even easier, though Lu Cheng hadn’t chosen to do so yet.

Things like regular liver cancer resections and chemotherapy, for example.

The topic gradually narrowed, finally becoming a solo act by Lu Cheng, who voluntarily shared with Chen Song and others the directions for progress in Liver Preservation Surgery.

This was Lu Cheng’s current ’panel display’ and ’thoughts’, without concrete objective evidence to prove his ideas.

It’s merely a concept and direction, so directly applying it on patients wouldn’t be reliable, even if supported by formulas and theories, it wouldn’t suffice.

Medicine isn’t a rigorous discipline, it’s a statistical discipline.

Theories and surgical techniques rely on statistical tools—epidemiology—to summarize and present in reality.

...

After listening to Lu Cheng’s ideas, Chen Song nodded frequently: ”Great direction, deservedly named Lushan Ancestral Mother.”

Dai Linfang then said: ”Lushan Ancestral Mother’s resource extraction and integration ability is truly unrivaled.”

”We all know the skills, and have deeply discussed the basic principles of Liver Preservation Surgery, just haven’t found the right catalyst for integration.”

”He could find it.”

The mention of Lushan Ancestral Mother by Dai Linfang and Chen Song didn’t seem unusual to Mu Nanshu and Xie Yuan’an, which puzzled Lu Cheng.

”Book Bag, what did they just call me?”

Mu Nanshu finally covered his mouth and laughed: ”Lushan Ancestral Mother, Lu Cheng’s Lu.”

”Originally it was supposed to be Lushan Old Mother, but as that seemed inappropriate, they called you a prolific old sow instead.”

Xie Yuan’an got excited: ”Xiao Mumu, be careful in the future not to have children with him.”

”I’m afraid you two might end up with quintuplets.”

Intellectuals have the jealousy of intellectuals, and researchers have the jealousy of researchers.

Chen Song joked: ”She’s not having kids with Xiao Lu, are you having them with Xiao Lu?”

Xie Yuan’an blushed immediately.

Dai Linfang looked nervous at Chen Song’s words too, thinking wasn’t Chen Song touching on sensitive topics?

Lu Cheng knew some jokes couldn’t go too far: ”If we really had quintuplets, everyone could take one, easing the pressure.”

”I fear my salary wouldn’t be enough to raise them.”

Lu Cheng, with a double entendre, continued: ”Brother Dai, in the lab, how’s the progress with the destructive wound cleaning skill?”

Dai Linfang reported truthfully: ”Making slight progress, can go on stage, but still need to continue learning the reconstruction and suture approach.”

”Hmm, learning quickly.” Lu Cheng smiled and complimented.

Dai Linfang felt uneasy: ”How come when you say it, it sounds so annoying?”

”Even if you’re Lushan Ancestral Mother, but?”

Lu Cheng replied: ”Alright then, I’ll speak like this in the future.”

”You learn not as fast as I do.”

”You’re not as tall as I am.”

”You’re not as strong as I am.”

”You’re not as handsome as I am!”

”Your academic degree.”

Dai Linfang suddenly found his footing, glaring cross-eyed: ”My academic degree is higher than yours!~”

Xie Yuan’an finally laughed softly: ”You’re only better academically than him.”

”He’s only slightly better looking than me, okay?” Dai Linfang looked around confidently, still sure about his own looks.
