System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Spleen removal is an ultimate treatment method belonging to organ extraction, and it is one of the surgical techniques that we, in the general surgery department, strive to reduce. Now, someone can alleviate this burden.”

”It’s indeed a tough job.”

The Gastrointestinal Surgery also has various extremely difficult surgeries such as stomach preservation, bowel preservation, and sphincter preservation, yet Xie Gan’an has no access to those.

Stomach removal, bowel removal, and sphincter removal are procedures summarized by many senior physicians over hundreds of years, barely creating a rescue opportunity from certain death.

Attempting to break and reverse this opportunity is incredibly difficult, a task typically not dared to be undertaken by hospitals in a prefecture-level city.

”Brother Xie, you overpraise me; I just do what I can, learning to do things like my elder brothers and teachers.”

”Actually, there is a lot of pressure as well!”

”Of course, we also need to trouble you, Brother Xie, to put more thought into it. Previously, these patients could be directly sent to the emergency room, but now, classification is needed,” Lu Cheng replied.

Xie Gan’an took a deep breath, ”Hey, these things we do, anyone could do it, but what you do, Lu Cheng, no one dares to take on.”

”Deng Yue, you can go ahead, you can go ahead...”

Tian Zhiliang, seeing that Deng Yue hadn’t left either, said, ”Dr. Deng, you have your own things to attend to, just go on ahead, it’s alright, I’ll send you a message later.”

Deng Yue is a woman, but in the hospital workplace, your gender doesn’t matter.

If you can do it, do it; if you can’t, then leave.

Because once you are incompetent, the cost the patient bears is death!~

Naturally, there are basic rules in the hospital workplace, such as greeting a newly-promoted colleague to ease future requests for consultations in the department.

In urgent situations, a call can be made for help.

If a family member happens to suffer from a disease someone else excels at treating, a call can be made to ask them to come out and help.

Deng Yue laughed gently, ”Director Lu, Director Tian, then I apologize, I’ll closely monitor your handovers.”

After all, Deng Yue is a mother, and as a mother, after work, she must prioritize worrying about her child, so she hurriedly left.

After Deng Yue left, Xie Gan’an said, ”Director Lu, I also heard that you preserved a limb for someone with limb-destroying injury?”

”When would it be possible to tackle these kinds of diseases as well?”

Xie Gan’an wasn’t speaking sarcastically, but out of genuine admiration.

He hasn’t been in the emergency department for long, yet he’s already encountered two children who had amputations.

They happened to be a boy and a girl, creating a metaphor of perfection, yet their endings were very unfortunate.

Having children himself, seeing the two cry in confusion really tugged at his heart.

But Xie Gan’an also knew that these children being amputated, along with other adults, wasn’t because any hospital colleague was lazy and didn’t want to preserve their limbs.

I only earn eight thousand a month, you’re asking me to buy a house with an average price of a hundred thousand, you might as well let me die, right?

If you can manage limb preservation surgery or spleen preservation surgery, it’s surely a path to fame and fortune, comparable to winning a Nobel Prize or a Turing Award, etc.

Such a path is presented, but those who reach it are ultimately extremely few.

Once such a person appears, it only elicits admiration and respect.

If you’re not such a person, and your excellence isn’t apparent, then in a prefecture-level city hospital, you don’t have much presence.

The label of excellence, if randomly placed on someone in the hospital, wouldn’t be too far off the mark.

”Slowly wait for opportunities; I can’t make it hard for myself, much less let patients have too many expectations since skills can only be learned gradually.”

Lu Cheng said, ”The hospital’s plan is to start admitting patients gradually next month.”

”However, patient selection is still needed, and we can’t rush.”

Tian Zhiliang, hearing this, timely added, ”Although Dr. Lu is a genius, he also progresses step by step.”

”His first time performing spleen preservation surgery in our hospital was only last year.”

”It has been through prolonged immersion and pondering in secret to have achieved this level, not something that came overnight.”

”Besides, Director Lu is already so outstanding, aren’t you afraid of being overwhelmed to the point of doubting life?”

Xie Gan’an, wearing glasses, features upright, with a gentle demeanor, said, ”Director Tian, I’ve long since doubted, so now, no matter how much I doubt, I don’t find it absurd anymore.”

”As long as Director Lu says it, no matter how absurd, I dare believe it seventy to eighty percent.”

Knock knock knock!

Someone holding their waist knocked on the consultation room door.

”Is it here to see lower back pain?” He furrowed his brows, clearly suffering from chronic kidney stones.

Xie Gan’an quickly straightened up, took his seat, and took position, ”Yes yes yes, come in, these are all colleagues, we are discussing professional knowledge.”

Lu Cheng and Tian Zhiliang, understanding the situation, stepped out.

...

After stepping out of the office, Tian Zhiliang’s gaze flickered for a moment, hesitated, then asked, ”Xiao Lu, hasn’t Director Huang told you about being reported?”

Lu Cheng’s footsteps halted, his smile paused slightly, ”I’ve been reported again? The Medical Affairs Department hasn’t told me?”

”It’s not the Medical Affairs Department, it’s the Human Resources Department,” Tian Zhiliang said.

Lu Cheng thought for a moment, then asked, ”Hasn’t it been a long time since the selection exam?”

Lu Cheng knew someone had made an anonymous report against him during the selection exam, which ended up costing him his re-examination opportunity.

”It’s about your promotion; someone wasn’t pleased seeing you walking closely with Dean Yao and even took photos.”

”Saying you lack qualifications.”

”In the hospital, there are quite a few attending physicians older than you with more qualifications and more papers,” Tian Zhiliang explained.

”Of course, currently, this matter is just being discussed privately between the Human Resources Department and Director Huang.”

Promotion is like crossing a single-log bridge, and it’s an annual event.

If you advance, others lose out, and must wait for the next year — many monks and little porridge.

Therefore, the criteria in the official documents and the queue became ironclad rules.

Admission by merit follows a scoring system.

Even if Lu Cheng took the initiative to assist the hospital’s trauma center — for Lu Cheng personally, what relevance does the hospital’s development have with his attending position?

What connection does establishing a trauma center have with a minor attending physician?

Why should Lu Cheng be ahead of me?

Just for the sentiment?

When did sentiment become something you could sell?

Lu Cheng’s clinical capability is certainly good, but in the scoring for promotion, how much is clinical capability worth? How many points can it earn?

Can it earn you full marks?

After giving you full marks for this, how much does your work duration count for? How about your other scoring items?

Lu Cheng didn’t think they were wrong but slightly frowned, asking back, ”Brother Tian? Has Xiangzhou People’s Hospital seen so many immortals for vice-senior promotions this year?”

”Two first prizes in provincial skill competitions, a prefecture-level ’Outstanding Individual Award,’ not to mention the county ones.”

”And I’ve published four SCI papers and have two monographs, don’t these surpass them?”

Tian Zhiliang was merely conveying the incident to Lu Cheng and didn’t know that Lu Cheng had so many credentials.

Moreover, these credentials span from accolades to the research field.

”Oh? You have so much stuff?” Tian Zhiliang was stunned.

He really thought Lu Cheng only had Yao Xin and the university professors’ support.

Although Lu Cheng was conducting research, he didn’t know whether he had published papers or not, and Lu Cheng didn’t flaunt these in the department.

Title promotion is an evaluation process, but when the hospital nominates quotas, it’s based on comprehensive scoring.

It crosses tenure, work attitude, additional points for awards, and additional points for papers in comprehensive scoring.

Lu Cheng’s lips curled lightly, ”Maybe my batch is unlucky, there are too many immortals this time.”

”Anyway, I’ve prepared everything I can, the rest is left to fate.”

What Lu Cheng could submit was just that much, though he had also checked past performances in the State People’s Hospital over the past decade, and his current scores surpassed them significantly.

This is Xiangzhou People’s Hospital’s vice-senior selection, not Xiangya Hospital or Huazhong Union Hospital.

If the title promotion here wasn’t as easily achievable, Lu Cheng would’ve left long ago, wouldn’t he?

Tian Zhiliang realized his worry was unnecessary and quickly said, ”That’s impossible. With so many accomplishments, no wonder the Human Resources Department and Director Huang didn’t inform you.”

”When I was promoted to vice-senior, it was just one SCI, one CSCD, and several city-level awards, and the hospital’s outstanding individual was enough.”

”Your papers were published during your attending period, right?”

”Yes,” Lu Cheng nodded.

”Well then, it doesn’t matter, the clowns will reveal themselves...”
