System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

After Lu Cheng found a nurse to replace his assistant, he walked out of the operating room.

Just as he was about to close the door, his attention was all on Xiang Dahong, but he suddenly heard Dai Linfang’s voice coming from inside:

”What are your hands doing?”

The nurse’s voice came out, tense and hurried: ”Sorry… Dr. Dai…”

”If you don’t know how to assist, then get out and call someone else in.”

Lu Cheng: ???

Dai Linfang got harassed in the OR too?

Honestly, that was normal. Dai Linfang’s ”character model” was only slightly inferior to his own—he was actually handsome and tall.

PhD degree, great technique, strong background.

Whether a young nurse was naïve or worldly, she’d get drawn to him easily.

By comparison, Lu Cheng could only attract those relatively naïve little girls who only cared about looks…

Lu Cheng didn’t bother about it; Dai Linfang could definitely handle that sort of thing on his own.

He moved closer to Xiang Dahong and, hearing him hang up the phone, Xiang turned and said, ”This was transferred directly from Feng County, it’s a localized mutilating injury.”

”The stump after the limb amputation got mangled by twisting. It’s just right for us to work together on it!!” Xiang Dahong’s eyes were bright.

Xiang Dahong was an associate chief physician at State People’s Hospital, very capable, leading his own team, and he had his own network of contacts.

For example, back when Lu Cheng was at County People’s Hospital, Orthopedics Director Peng had once pulled some strings to ask Xiang Dahong to go to the countryside, just to give Peng Kun an opportunity to learn.

Xiang Dahong came with his own network; county hospital directors who needed his help were not in the minority!

So Xiang Dahong being able to make a phone call and summon a few patients over was completely normal.

Even Professors Qu Daowen and Dong Liumeng couldn’t really do this sort of thing, at least not this conveniently.

”Director Xiang, you really plan to refine yourself in the mutilating injury direction,” Lu Cheng said.

Xiang Dahong didn’t refute him: ”I’ve looked into it. Over at Zhongnan Hospital they’re currently studying integrated Surgical Technique combining mutilating injuries with subsequent Functional Reconstruction Skill.”

”One surgery where mutilating injury treatment and Functional Reconstruction Skill are done at the same time.”

”Strictly speaking, I’m doing this to expand the case sources for our hand surgery unit…”

He didn’t refute it, but he found himself a reason.

After limb preservation surgery for a mutilating injury, the limb is a hundred percent stiff and nonfunctional; Functional Reconstruction Skill is definitely needed.

Those surgeries were ones that even now were quite strenuous for Xiang Dahong to handle.

Precisely because they were strenuous, he wanted to learn more. He wanted to make Functional Reconstruction Skill routine at Xiangzhou People’s Hospital, creating a situation other associate chiefs wouldn’t even dare imagine!

In that context, nerve Suturing Technique and vascular Suturing Technique were techniques he absolutely had to learn.

Lu Cheng immediately reminded him: ”Director Xiang, at the moment I really can’t pull off an integrated mutilating injury + Functional Reconstruction Skill package!~”

Lu Cheng could use points to complete that kind of combined Surgical Technique, but it would consume far too many Skill Points.

He had other plans for the types of cases the trauma center would soon be taking over; he couldn’t waste those Skill Points.

If you can preserve the limb in a mutilating injury, that’s already a blessing for the patient.

Even if Xiangzhou can’t do Functional Reconstruction Skill, the patient can still go to Sha City or Han City for reconstruction.

Save the life first!~

Xiang Dahong said, ”I know. I want to study it myself. I’ve read some materials.”

”Honestly, there isn’t any particularly standard reference answer yet.”

”I consulted Liu Huanglong, Director of Hand Surgery at Zhongnan Hospital. He said that right now, for mutilating injuries plus limb preservation surgery, there’s no perfect plan. You can only rely on personal cultivation and slowly figure it out.”

”Come on, let’s go to the OR first?” Xiang Dahong extended an invitation to Lu Cheng.

Lu Cheng really couldn’t refuse.

The trauma center was just starting up; case sources weren’t that many. Based on that, Xiang Dahong had actively called patients over; Lu Cheng couldn’t just not admit them.

But it was exactly this kind of thoughtfulness from Xiang that left Lu Cheng a bit at a loss.

I’m the student, I’m here to learn technique, I’m the one paying tuition.

I’m even bringing in patients; you only need to be responsible for teaching.

...

As soon as they entered the operating room, before the patient was even wheeled in, Xiang Dahong said, ”The surgery’s department attribution will be written as Trauma Center; my role will be recorded as assisting consultation.”

That was Xiang Dahong’s ”tuition.”

With the main operating department written as Trauma Center, Lu Cheng and the others could get the big share of the surgical fee, while he, as assisting consultant, took the ”small share”!

With this kind of tuition, even if the discipline inspection commission came, they could only stare.

”Got it, Director Xiang, I know the drill.” This wasn’t the first time; the nurses in the OR were already familiar with these procedures.

After that, Xiang Dahong contacted a familiar anesthesiologist and scrub nurse to come into the emergency OR.

Once everything was in place, all that was left was to get ready to open the case.

At six forty, only then did Dai Linfang wash his hands outside and step through the air-sealed door into the sterile OR.

While pulling on his sterile gown, he glanced at the surgical field, his expression tense: ”Director Xiang, Director Lu, you guys move that fast?”

”I only took the time to admit two minor trauma cases, and you’re already about to start suturing?”

”What am I supposed to watch now?”

Head down and already suturing, Xiang Dahong said casually, ”Then you’ll have to blame your Director Lu for being too fierce.”

”I don’t know how to do debridement for mutilating injuries; he’s the pervert.”

”Right now I’m only responsible for the limb replantation.”

Dai Linfang looked at Lu Cheng: ”Brother Lu, take it easy, will you? What’s wrong with going slower?”

”I used to be working hard, not slacking off!”

Lu Cheng: ”...”

”Quit clowning around. This mutilating injury is relatively simple, it’s localized; the area and volume of the destroyed tissue are relatively limited.”
