Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 541: Chapter 541: Those Not of Our Kind, Their Hearts Will Be Different

Iyas was filled with emotions, gradually recalling various past experiences.

After being captured, those transporting the elves feared that Iyas and her companions’ constant noise would incite unnecessary turmoil, so they drugged them into a deep sleep and transported them to be auctioned at the Sunrise Chamber of Commerce’s auction house.

At the auction house, Iyas was quickly sold off, not suffering any excessive torment.

Afterward, she was taken as a research subject and locked in a dimly lit cellar.

Upon waking once more, she had already been rescued by Yang Yu.

Maybe this was what Yang Yu had referred to as ”Luck.” If someone other than Yang Yu had saved her, she surely wouldn’t have returned to the Elf Forest so easily.

Iyas hadn’t experienced what other elves had in the Human World; she didn’t know the pain other returning elves had endured.

But even through Che Lan’s few words, Iyas could feel the hardships faced by those elves.

”I understand the situation.

Those who came back first only spoke of their experiences. They probably have never met a kind person, and other elves who have never left the village feel the same. Their impressions of humans have solidified.

Even if we meet the Queen, it’s unclear what decision she will make when faced with Yang Yu, a human.”

”That’s the gist of it, senior Iyas. I’m glad you’ve returned. But taking a human into the elf village, the elves’ animosity towards humans might even spread to you.

Senior Iyas, you might be displeased with what I say.

But I still think it’s better for this human to leave here quickly. That’s for your and Hake’s sake, so you won’t be able to settle in Luoyu City.

To return to the peaceful life we had before.”

Che Lan’s words were full of concern; she wasn’t afraid of Yang Yu, the human, but she couldn’t speak for the majority of elves.

Those not of our race must have different hearts.

Elves can truly connect with others, as they all desire to be chosen by the goddess. Hence, there’s hardly any deceit among them.

Any elf knows that betraying the goddess or their comrades would result in being stripped of her blessings.

Bound by such punishment, they all strictly manage themselves and treat each other with sincerity.

But the elf clan could only rely on the oral accounts of their elders or ancient texts to learn about other races.

And among them, humans seemed the most unfathomable race to the elves.

In the elves’ eyes, humans were synonymous with deception and cruelty. Without a communal king to serve, they endlessly divided and fought within, and anyone could overturn a country’s rule and proclaim themselves king, founding a new nation.

Such a race, where everyone could become a king and lacked unity, naturally had no faith, engaged in constant warfare, and acted cruelly and bloodthirstily, slaying even their kin and siblings without mercy.

Especially after the events of these past few years, the image of humans in the eyes of most elves had deteriorated further.

Even though some older elves tried to clarify that humans weren’t as evil as most imagined and also had their own merits, such as the Legendary Hero being a human who, with like-minded companions, saved the world.

However, many elves still consciously or subconsciously ignored the parts of records that highlighted the positive aspects of humans.

Eventually, the elves’ fury was fully ignited.

Even if the Elf Queen herself intervened, it was quite possible she would only provide a temporary solution without changing the elves’ deep-seated loathing.

Iyas wouldn’t lie to one of her own race; the man not far from her might very well have saved her and her brother, and that’s why Che Lan hoped Yang Yu, Iyas’s benefactor, could leave safely.

This was all for the benefit of Iyas and Yang Yu.

”That seems to be the case. I’ve relayed to you exactly what Che Lan said; what do you plan to do?”

While Che Lan was distracted, Iyas ran over to Yang Yu’s side and briefly repeated what Che Lan had said.

”Whether it’s me or you, meeting the Queen comes with the risk of facing prejudice and hatred.” Yang Yu, stroking his chin and also ignoring Che Lan, who came over frowning, asked Iyas, ”Iyas, what do you plan to do?”

”It doesn’t really matter to me; I’m going to be traveling with you anyway, so whether I’m discriminated against or not doesn’t bother me.” Iyas paused for a moment and glanced at Hake. ”What I am concerned about is Hake. If we leave, I wonder if he will be able to live well on his own...”

”I’ll be fine. I’m not a child anymore.” Hake smiled sensibly, ”After following you for so long, I know I can’t keep up with your pace, and I don’t know what dangers your adventures will bring next.

I don’t want to be the reason my sister is distracted and jeopardize the entire team, so I’ll stay somewhere safe as much as possible.

Prejudice, I think I can manage just fine.

Discrimination might last for a while, but since we’re all elves, even if something happens, as long as we communicate consistently, understanding each other quickly is certain.”

”So, the answer is clear.”

Yang Yu’s face broke into a smile once again at Che Lan,

”Beautiful miss, could you trouble you to make a run for us, and say what you’ve seen, heard, or even surmised—speaking out is fine.

Please make sure to convey our arrival to the Elf Queen if she refuses my entry to the Elf Village, then there’s nothing I can do but leave them here.”

Che Lan couldn’t fathom that, after hearing Iyas’s message, Yang Yu could still smile so generously; it was utterly unreasonable, and both Iyas and Hake seemed bewitched by him.

”Che Lan, can I trouble you with this? I’ve never asked you for anything before; this is the first time I am asking, and I know it’s difficult, but please make sure to convey our situation here to the Queen.”

Once again, Che Lan was taken aback.

The always proud and never subservient senior Iyas was now bowing her head to her.

The bow-bearing elves stared at Che Lan, also at a loss, waiting quietly for her to decide.

After a long thought, Che Lan let out a deep sigh,

”I understand. I will inform the Queen, but don’t harbor too high hopes. Even though I was a survivor from the village then, my words are not enough to sway the Queen’s decision...

At most, I can deliver a message for you, and don’t expect anything more from me, there’s definitely nothing else I can do...”

”Thank you so much!”

Iyas excitedly grabbed Che Lan’s hand, making her blush and shyly avert her gaze.
