Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 539: Chapter 539: The Elf Hunting Team

Who on earth was it, and for what purpose, that they captured so many elves that the market couldn’t possibly digest?

This could have a fatal impact on the subsequent elf slave hunts.

If they were aiming to make a significant profit on the market, then it wouldn’t be strange to infiltrate the Elf Forest and capture so many elves in one go.

But such a one-off deal seemed utterly foolish.

It was as if, once they’d completed this deal, they would wash their hands clean of the business and never engage with it again.

If that were truly the case, there would be no need to worry about any impact on the elf slave market afterward.

But Yang Yu did not believe things were that simple.

Not to mention anything else, for those people to enter Wansheng Country so stealthily right under its nose and then transport the captured elves out in large quantities, it would be impossible for their actions to go unnoticed.

Knowing too few details, Yang Yu dared not jump to conclusions; he could only bury the possibilities he could think of in his heart, bit by bit collecting details, seeking out the answer that was closest to the truth.

However, if someone had planted insiders within the Plant Clan and the Silver Teeth Clan, it was highly likely that the Elf Clan had been infiltrated by traitors as well.

If it was indeed the work of an insider combined with humans, what exactly was the traitor thinking to sacrifice so many of their own people?

Regardless, to uncover the true mastermind and insider necessitated evidence, just as it was with Lotcar’s words that carried no weight and couldn’t convince others.

There needed to be some understanding from the Elf Queen, as well as details from those in the know—only then could one follow the vine to get to the melon.

After riding Lotcar once again, Yang Yu and his party encountered two more elf villages while traveling within the Elf Forest.

These two elf villages had long been abandoned, with not a single living soul to be seen.

Yet, unlike Iyas’ village, which had been burnt down to ashes, every building in these villages was intact without a trace of destruction.

By picking a house and walking in, one could find that everyday items had been swept away, but that was essentially it.

A tragedy had occurred a year ago, and the elves would have definitely received news from the village priests, causing concern for their own safety.

All creatures have an instinct to gather in safer places, and elves were no exception.

The safest place in the Elf Forest was undoubtedly Luoyu City, where the Elf Queen resided, and the elves from these two villages had most likely migrated there en masse.

Within the Elf Clan, the Elf Queen had absolute authority—if she requested them to return to their original places, the elves would surely go back.

The accumulation of dust in the houses indicated that the Elf Queen had tacitly allowed the elves to migrate to Luoyu City.

Gathering everyone together was a good protective measure and could also reduce the patrol pressure.

However, having more people naturally brought about other new problems, and it was unknown how the Elf Queen would handle them.

Boarding Lotcar to set off once more, Yang Yu confirmed with Iyas that the elves had not developed any efficient means of transportation, and the usual connections between villages were completed on foot by the priests; they had not even domesticated any animals and did not need to.

For the villages at the outskirts of the Elf Forest, it took about three to five days for priests to make contact with the Queen and return at full speed.

The elves had long lifespans and usually didn’t have anything important to do, so they could completely accept this slow pace of life.

By the way, Yang Yu also learned that, even for the lightning-fast priests, their activity range was essentially confined to the ground and they couldn’t dance in the skies like the magicians from the All Things Library, ignoring the terrain for rapid communication.

Hake added from the side that even if they could fly, the Elf Clan wouldn’t allow elves to fly recklessly.

To fly recklessly, for the Elf Clan, was in itself a desecration of their faith.

In elven culture, only elves specially blessed by the goddess would grow white wings and soar into the sky.

The reason why the city where the Queen resided was called Luoyu, probably also had to do with this reason—they were all wingless.

Looking at the task on the panel, Yang Yu was in deep thought.

Just then, Lotcar turned his ears alertly, catching some faint sounds in the forest.

All of a sudden, several arrows shot out from the shadows. Lotcar quickly stopped in his tracks, jumped back, and evaded the arrows at lightning speed, letting them miss their mark.

Seeing the style of the arrows embedded in the ground, Iyas quickly realized who was attacking them.

”Yang Yu, these arrows are very light, they are from the Hunting Team’s attack, meant to create a diversion.

I’ve also been with the Hunting Team. The game in this forest is extremely cunning. As soon as the elves get a little close, letting them smell our scent or see our form, they will disappear without a trace.

So we thought of a method, which is to use their flight to our advantage, marking our presence with arrows, startling the game and driving them toward the route where the strongest team is located to execute the hunt.

To avoid alarming the game, the ones doing the herding usually stay far away from the prey, only getting a general view of them before launching the attack.”

Iyas paused,

”Lotcar’s giant wolf form is too large; they probably overlooked our presence.

We shouldn’t panic at this time; we should reveal ourselves, just letting them know that we are also elves like them, then they won’t harm us!”

Having said that, Iyas stood up high on Lotcar’s back, turned toward the distance, and raised her voice,

”Hunting Team! Don’t attack! We are also elves! These footsteps are not a rare large game, but a member of our Silver Teeth Clan carrying us.”

As soon as Iyas shouted this, rustling sounds emerged from the tranquil forest, and then several figures continuously leaped forward through the woods. After confirming that the person on Lotcar’s back was indeed an elf, members of the Hunting Team then jumped down from the treetops, landing near Lotcar.

They held their bows and arrows, maintaining their drawn strings, and carefully watched over Lotcar, lifting their heads to look at Iyas who had stood up on Lotcar’s back.

Suddenly, an incredulous voice rang in Yang Yu’s ear,

”Iyas... Hake... are you two still alive?”

Upon closer inspection, the voice belonged to a medium-sized female elf with a ponytail. Although she couldn’t compare with Iyas, she too was exceptionally attractive, with a delicate face bearing a pair of spirited eyes, looking extremely reliable. She wore a thin, practical emerald outfit that accentuated her shapely figure.

Standing in the center of the small squad indicated she was the leader of this small detachment, and her greeting to Iyas and Hake showed that she was an acquaintance of theirs.

This time, it’s hard to tell whether they were lucky or not.
