Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 535: Chapter 535: Yellow Eyes in the Mirror

Three days after leaving the Silver Teeth Clan’s village, with the help of Lotcar’s speed, Yang Yu successfully reached the Elf Forest.

Unlike Iyas’ impression, the outskirts of the tranquil Elf Forest were now heavily guarded by a throng of Beastman Soldiers.

Finding a deserted place to hide, they ambushed a patrolling officer when he wasn’t looking, dragging him into the underbrush to question him closely about the situation in the Elf Forest.

At first the patrolling officer refused to cooperate, but Yang Yu drew his longsword and held it to the man’s throat, telling him that if he was unwilling to answer questions, he would be eradicated, and they would find another officer to question until they got the information they wanted.

With no choice, the officer began to answer Yang Yu’s questions, one by one.

After the tragedy a year ago, the Elf Queen did not actively seek assistance from the Royal Family of Wansheng Country.

All of these Beastmen were dispatched here on the King’s orders as guards, aiming to prevent Slave Hunters from flooding into the Elf villages again and causing tragedy.

By current estimates, the Elf Clan numbered around one hundred and thirty-two thousand, with over three thousand unaccounted for.

Aside from the central, large-population city of Luoyu, where the Elf Queen resided, two-thirds of the Elves were scattered across more than three hundred villages of various sizes within the Elf Forest.

Many Elves spent most of their time in their own villages, with most communication between villages handled by the village Priests.

This was the first time Iyas had heard that their Elf Clan had so many villages and such a large population.

But you couldn’t blame Iyas; as an outstanding Elf Warrior, her sphere of activity was limited to her village and the nearby forest, and her awareness was confined to these areas.

Therefore, when Iyas first met Yang Yu, she thought the Human World was no different from her village and believed she could quickly find Hake.

Now, it appeared that not only was she initially unaware of the wide scope of the Human World, but also she was not very knowledgeable about her own clan’s circumstances.

It was like a village girl who had never left her village and had not been to the nearest town suddenly being dropped into a metropolis like Shanghai or Paris.

However, having followed Yang Yu and seen so many large cities, Iyas wasn’t too shocked by this information, and she even brought up the Elf Queen.

While most Elves would not leave their villages, the Elf Queen did occasionally select villages for inspection.

At those times, the best Elf Warriors in the village would be assembled to undergo the Queen’s review.

This was a supreme honor, and Iyas was still proud to have personally met the Queen.

But when Yang Yu asked how many times Iyas had seen the Elf Queen in her lifetime, Iyas hesitantly replied that it had been only twice.

Hake had it worse, having seen her only once, and that was three years ago.

”The Elf Queen comes once every few decades, and you call this ’occasionally’?”

Suppressing the urge to make remarks, Yang Yu could only continue to learn about the Elf Clan through the Beastman officer.

After all, Iyas and Hake were just ordinary Elves from the more peripheral villages, naturally not well-versed in the happenings of the Elf Forest’s center, and only had secondhand knowledge from the Priests—hardly reliable sources.

Unfortunately, the captured officer also had no knowledge of the inner workings of the Elf Clan; they were just following orders to guard the Elves.

Because the Elf Clan had always been conservative and their superiors had instructed them not to get too close to the Elves, naturally, the officers knew very little.

He also knew that, to prevent an incident similar to the one a year ago, the Elf Queen had dispatched her Personal Guard to protect Luoyu. It was incredibly dangerous to approach without permission.

Indeed, it was quite dangerous for Yang Yu and his group, but for the average elf, the city where the Elf Queen resided was undoubtedly the safest place, and nowhere was more suitable to settle Hake.

In order to settle Hake, they had to make a trip there.

Additionally, Yang Yu wanted to see if he could complete the ”Elf and Goddess” Hidden Task; after all, a single Legendary Level draw was just too enticing.

After completing ”Lotcar’s Revenge” and solidifying his relationship with Lotcar as one of trust, Yang Yu received a new task, which was also one of the twenty items.

The reward for the task remained basically unchanged, still the fragment of ”Sky Lock” and a chance for a Legendary Level draw.

To complete the ”Silver Wolf and Giant Dragon” task, he would have to attend the Dragon God Conference and closely observe the similarities and differences between the giant dragon and the Silver Wolf.

As for the hidden task reward, ”The Darkness Born from the Plant Clan”...

According to the System, he should be able to unlock this task directly by permanently solidifying his relationship as one of trust with a certain member of the Plant Clan; there was no need to complete the ”Silver Wolf and Giant Dragon” task.

However, it wasn’t a good idea to go back to the Plant Clan now.

At least until he had gained their complete trust, he couldn’t return, not to mention solidifying a permanent relationship of trust with someone from the Plant Clan.

After further interrogation of the officer about the war between Wansheng Country and the Luo Ze Empire, Yang Yu took out a plastic-wrapped corn candy, coerced the officer to eat it, and then threatened him,

”How does it taste? The candy you just ate is Magic Candy. If you dare to talk about our affairs within three years, your body will ’pop’ and disappear in an instant.”

Having said this, Yang Yu cleanly let the officer go, allowing him to return the way he had come.

The Beastman officer was distressed and speechless. Watching Yang Yu let him go without a hint of hesitation, he suspected that there was something wrong with the candy, which played right into Yang Yu’s hands.

Once doubts emerge, with time, they can turn into certainties.

It’s just as an old saying goes: when you suspect someone of infidelity, no matter how you look at them, you think they are cheating.

To put it simply.

You think they are up to something colorful because you are looking through colored glasses.

Having gathered the information he needed, Yang Yu began to break through the Beastmen’s defenses.

Originally Yang Yu had a more peaceful method to breach the defenses, such as stripping the officer’s clothes and having Lotcar disguise himself as a Beastman officer who rescued Iyas and others, passing through the checkpoint.

But, well, since he was already here and in the past half-month news had spread about those disrupting the defenses and his Level cap had increased, of course, he should take the chance to gain some big Experience points.

The guards here had attributes averaging between 200 and 300, with few exceeding 400.

Such attributes, barely considered as elite in an army, reflected the extent of Wansheng Country’s Royal Family’s emphasis on elves.

These guards were clearly sufficient against a group of Slave Hunters.

But they were far from enough to handle Yang Yu and his group.
