Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

47: Chapter 47: Our pharmaceutical factory needs such talents 47: Chapter 47: Our pharmaceutical factory needs such talents The man in the long robe was called Slarate, the Deputy Director of Human Resources at Silver Orchid Commerce, and he had seen countless people.

Normally, just by glancing at a resume, he could gauge a person’s depth.

But this time, when he looked at the resumes in his hands, he could not judge the strength of these two individuals.

Damn, is the uncle from the introduction store fooling me?

These two clearly look like they haven’t even grown their hair out fully.

The uncle from the introduction store glanced at the resume and started picking his ear.

“You take a good look, although they appear very young, they are actually almost thirty years old.

I heard they used to be adventurers, but the man had a temper so severe, he couldn’t help but kill someone, and they’ve been on the run all the way here.

No one told them the location of this store, yet they managed to find it, which shows they’ve done this sort of work quite a bit.

As for their abilities, you don’t need to worry.

A couple of days ago, they got into a conflict with someone, arranged a fight, and ended up beating the other party half to death.

Of course, this is just my side of the story.

If you don’t believe it, you can check for yourself.

Look, they are right behind you.”

Turning around, Slarate swept his gaze over the furnishings of the introduction store, and indeed, the two people from the resume were right behind him.

The man, named Yang Yu, was leaning against the wall with his legs crossed, taking up an entire bench, looking pretentious and nonchalant, grabbing a handful of Fennel Seeds, stuffing them into his mouth, and chewing loudly.

The woman, named Bai Jin, was shakily holding a cup, dressed in sloppy clothes with messy hair draped over her shoulders.

She clearly belonged to the type who didn’t bother with appearances; she had none of the charm young women are supposed to possess, the kind who would be thrown out of a store without a second thought.

The two sitting together created an absolute ‘do not approach’ aura.

They didn’t at all seem like teenagers but more like seasoned pros who had been toughened up by years of street life, golden and crispy, and still oozing oil.

They entirely matched the image of local hooligans.

Being new in town with no connections, it meant, in the case of any mishap, there was no need to worry about stirring up trouble.

At most, it would just mean two scumbags vanished from society.

No big deal.

Slarate was quite satisfied and felt that the two were a perfect fit.

Their pharmaceutical factory needed talents like these.

All prepared with his approach, Slarate smiled and struck up a conversation, “Excuse me for interrupting.

I am the Deputy Director of HR for a pharmaceutical company, and I have some job opportunities for you two.”

“Oh?

How much are you offering, and is it safe.” Yang Yu asked casually, as if he hadn’t seen Slarate, while he gulped down a drink from his saucer.

“Safety entirely depends on your capabilities, I’ll be straight with you—I’m looking to hire some security personnel.”

With a clang, Yang Yu set his saucer down on the table and said irritably, “What kind of crap security personnel?

You should know what kind of place this is.

If you’re looking for security personnel, why not go to a proper agency?”

“Brother, don’t get mad.

This is a rare job opportunity, don’t be too picky, as long as it isn’t a suicidal mission, what does it matter.” The girl named Bai Jin said with a sneaky smile, “As long as we have money, we can buy lots of herbal ingredients, and then, hehe, I can mass produce Magic Potion, sell it through the black market, and make a fortune.

Then we’ll have no worries in life.”

“Shut up!” Yang Yu slammed the table, stood up stepping on the bench, one foot on the table, and pointed at Bai Jin’s nose, “You wasteful woman.

That’s exactly what you said last time!

Last time, last time I listened to your nonsense, the hard-earned money went down the drain, racked up a pile of bad debts, got chased down three streets by someone wielding a toilet brush, and ended up running to this city, chewing these awful Fennel Seeds.”

“Last time was just an accident,” said Bai Jin, clutching her magic wand, her face filled with inexplicable confidence and not a hint of regret.

“This time will definitely be a success.”

“Get lost, I won’t trust you anymore,” Yang Yu snapped, sitting abruptly on the bench and furiously stuffing a handful of fennel seeds into his mouth, chewing vigorously with a loud crunch that echoed starkly in the empty shop.

Disappointed, Bai Jin’s eyes drooped as she corrected herself, “Alright, my dear brother, don’t be mad anymore.

I promise I won’t bring up the magic potion again.

Anyway, we both need a job.

If we keep this up, we’ll really starve.

Didn’t you say we came here because being black workers pays well?”

“Cheh—”

Yang Yu clicked his tongue and looked disdainfully towards Slarate, eyeing him seriously for the first time.

“What exactly is the job, and what’s the pay?”

Here it comes.

Slarate cracked a slight smile, laying out his prepared speech.

“This isn’t ordinary security work.

In fact, our pharmaceutical company has recently been targeted by competitors who occasionally send people over.

If the strength isn’t sufficient, accidents can easily happen; several people have been hospitalized already.

We’ve considered solving this through official channels, but they’ve already colluded with the military.

Breaking through that barrier will take some time.

So, self-help is the only option.

We need truly capable people to handle them.

By handle, you know what I mean, right?”

Yang Yu’s face lit up in realization, narrowing his eyes.

“I see, they show no mercy, and you show no righteousness, which is why you need black workers.

I’m not boasting, but my strength is top-notch around these parts.

I’m audacious.

If I hadn’t been discovered due to insufficient concealment, I wouldn’t have had to move around and come here.

Let’s talk about compensation now.

How much are you willing to pay?”

Slarate held up three fingers.

“I’ll offer this much.”

“Three hundred a day?

Isn’t that a bit too little?

You think you’re dealing with beggars!” Yang Yu waved his hand, immediately making an impatient gesture to shoo Slarate away.

“There are two of us here, and from what you say, this job is quite dangerous.

No deal, no way, that’s not the pay black workers deserve.”

“I think you’ve misunderstood me,” Slarate said with a smile, “My meaning is three hundred thousand per person per month, room and board included, and if you deal with enemy spies or assassins, you’ll also receive bonus rewards.”

“Three hundred thousand a month, room and board included, plus bonus rewards?” Yang Yu’s eyes widened incredulously; then, joy spread across his face and his attitude did a complete 180, extremely ingratiating.

“I apologize for the offense earlier.

I didn’t realize you were such a wealthy boss.

We’ll take the job, just tell us what needs to be done.”

Heh heh, truly a bunch opportunistic people, but this can be used to our advantage.

Slarate wore a friendly, yet insincerely smiling face.

“I’m really sorry, I can’t hire you two just yet.

I mentioned this at the beginning.

This job is very dangerous, and without sufficient strength, working with us could easily result in injury or death.

If you want to work with us, I need to test your strength.

If you can withstand my attack for ten minutes or defeat me, the job is yours.”

“Haha!” Yang Yu laughed loudly.

“Alright, but I just hope that when you lose, you won’t be too upset to give us the job.”

“Not at all.

I’m a man of my word, rest assured.”

On the surface humble, Slarate inwardly scorned them.

After all, being an elite of the Silver Orchid Commerce, how could he lose to two destitute adventurers?
