39: Chapter 39 I’m Not Being Human Anymore!

“In the long journey of life, as long as you keep climbing, one day you’ll reach your own limit.

You stumbled into becoming an adventurer and faced a series of hardships, and eventually encountered the limits of being human.

Now you’re confused.

To break through your limits, you can become stronger, but if you can’t break through, you’ll be stuck at this level forever, leading an ordinary life.

What will you do now to break through your limits?

Persist in daily exercise and meditation, find yourself in exercise, and elevate your thoughts in meditation.

If I go bald, naturally, I’ll also get stronger.

In the long journey of life, I’ve learned one thing: being human has its limits.

System, I don’t want to be human anymore!

Giant humanoid robots are the romance of every man; I want to go into mechanics.

The truest life is the simplest life.

Become an ordinary office worker or give it all up and go back to farming.

Choice deadline: None”

That damn system’s telling me to go farming again.

It’s true there are precedents in light novels where farming could defeat the Demon King, but that’s hardly suitable for this serious world.

If I go back to farming, as soon as the Demon King Army arrives, they’ll just grind me into the dust.

After the banquet, Yang Yu lay in bed, facing the most important choice in his life.

It was precisely because the system presented him with these options that he had kept a straight face throughout the celebration.

First, option one: daily exercise and meditation—time-consuming and hence not chosen.

Then, option four: simple farming would turn me into a mere backdrop in the game, an ordinary office worker.

If I could awaken the ability to turn things into bombs with a touch, it wouldn’t be too bad, but who knows if I would actually end up just an ordinary office worker.

All things considered, the remaining options are two and three.

Option two, I can tell it involves transforming into another race.

Option three involves relying on various manufactured devices to rampage, the endgame being a super mechanic piloting a giant robot, becoming an army by oneself.

It looks good at first glance, but where do I get the blueprints?

Although this world is not devoid of machinery, most are used in research, very few for civilian use, and land travel still usually depends on horse-drawn carriages.

Don’t tell me getting blueprints is all up to luck.

How lucky do I think I am?

Did I not get screwed over last time?

After much thought, Yang Yu decided to use up his four lottery draws.

If he got blueprints, he’d choose option three; otherwise, he’d have to stop being human.

[Congratulations, Player, you have obtained an apple (trash).]

[Congratulations, Player, you have obtained a physics textbook (trash).]

[Congratulations, Player, you have obtained a pineapple (trash).]

[Congratulations, Player, you have obtained an empty glass bottle (trash).]

Hmm.

Seems like option two is the only suitable choice left, stopping being human.

After becoming a mechanic, the goals are scattered; searching for blueprints and collecting various materials would take a long time.

Though there’s a chance to acquire a skill for rapid manufacturing, the chances are too low.

Considering it took me a year of farming to get a skill for nurturing clovers, I can hardly imagine how demanding it would be to train as a mechanic requiring substantial manufacturing skills.

Guess I can only rely on grinding?

No, there’s also the pay-to-win route, as long as I have a lot of money, I can hire adventurers to work for me.

Neither path seems easy, so for a civilian, there’s only one option.

Yeah, I won’t make the wrong choice.

This is reality; I need to recognize it clearly.

Yang Yu didn’t hesitate for a second and chose option two, “being human has its limits, to achieve something significant, you have to stop being human.”

[Are you sure you want to choose option two?]

Sure.

[System added a new function: Fusion]

This time, no new tasks appeared, but the system had added a new function.

Yang Yu was suddenly not sleepy anymore and got excited to research the new function.

This new function, roughly speaking, involves collecting the essence from other races and transforming oneself into a Mixed Species, thus increasing the level cap.

The operation is about tossing collected essences into a simulation game that resembled a sugar-cubing machine, hence obtaining sugar cubes that increase the level cap.

Okay, now comes the question: what is the racial essence?

How do I collect it?

And how much do I need?

Yang Yu was completely baffled.

After all, the explanation for the new function was brief—no tutorials or demonstrations at all.

“I’ll just have to ask Andro tomorrow.”

Just as Yang Yu was about to turn off the lights and sleep, someone knocked on the door.

Opening it, he found Bai Jin, who was holding the abandoned He Meng.

“Uh, I have something for you.”

“Oh, our rooms aren’t far apart; couldn’t you just let it crawl over here?”

Don’t talk about me like I’m some sort of object, He Meng leapt up and gave Yang Yu a Slime Charge.

Yang Yu opened his arms trying to catch He Meng steadily, but this time he failed.

He couldn’t stop He Meng and was thrown head over heels.

Damn, why does it hurt so much?

Opening his attribute panel, Yang Yu’s eyes immediately widened in surprise.

[He Meng

Race: Slime (Royal Family) Level: LV23 HP: 578/578 MP:220/220

Attributes: Strength 124, Defense 289, Intelligence 156, Special Defense 268, Agility 79, Endurance 86

Resistance: Physical 50%

Status: Blood Contract (irremovable, unless one party dies.) Free Attribute Points: 80]

Did you consume some miracle grow?

How did you level up so much and get such high attributes all of a sudden?

This is outrageous!

Looking at He Meng’s attributes and then his own, Yang Yu was almost moved to tears.

No worries, no worries.

These are normal attributes for a civilian, rather challenging indeed—truly the most difficult start.

“What exactly did you eat to level up so quickly?”

If He Meng told him that it had gained levels by killing the Goblin King, Yang Yu would want to crash head-first into a pole.

“I ate a strange goblin, teeheehee.

Originally, I planned to use the corpse to make a Magic Potion, but it ate it all, what a pity.”

Bai Jin chuckled oddly, more like she didn’t want to recall certain things rather than genuinely finding them amusing.

Following that, Bai Jin took out a red gemstone from her bag and handed it to Yang Yu, “The task you entrusted, perfectly resolved.

The loot is here; I couldn’t find a chance to give it to you in the pub.”

Bai Jin’s level had gone up by five, but her attributes had barely changed—she had likely earned all the experience from actually killing the Goblin King.

Meaning, He Meng owes its newfound strength to its inherent racial traits—after all, the setting where slimes dissolve and absorb is quite common.

Realizing this, Yang Yu felt reassured and reached out to take the gemstone, and with a “ding”, the system presented a new task.
