Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

43: Chapter 43: Wait for Me to Finish the Story 43: Chapter 43: Wait for Me to Finish the Story [Task hidden condition[Favored by Great Clans]triggered, upon completion additional rewards to be obtained, “Skill Scroll +1”.]

While gathering information related to Bai Jin, Yang Yu’s System panel popped up with such a message.

Come to think of it, Tela had just mentioned that the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce was formed by many families; could it be that the great families behind the scenes tasked the Chamber with investigating, and then, finding it troublesome, the Chamber outsourced the task to adventurers?

But why have the additional rewards only appeared now?

emmm…

I see, after all, it’s a task assigned from above, the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce has to take it seriously, so they need reliable adventurers.

Right now, my strength is well-known among the adventurers here, but my origins are unclear, I became famous too quickly, so the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce still doubts whether I truly possess the abilities.

Just now, I inadvertently made them realize that they were a small chamber of commerce.

Thus, after I left, Tela secretly contacted the employer, convinced of my ability to complete the task and to do it even better than expected.

Despite having so many families behind them, they still are a small chamber of commerce, they really are dogs, no wonder they’re trying to cling to the coattails of the larger associations.

They’ve given me a week to complete the infiltration.

If I’m not wrong, the hidden condition should be, under the premise of acquiring all the items, to deliver the task ahead of schedule.

“Not bad, it’s challenging, I like it.”

After collecting some more information about Bai Jin, Yang Yu made his way to the jewel shop.

Since the task was challenging, he naturally had to consider the risk of failure.

Tela had mentioned that a way out had already been prepared for them, but to prevent someone from burning bridges, Yang Yu still planned to leave himself a backup plan.

He had previously sold a glass bead to the owner of the jewel shop with a one-month return policy.

If he were to leave so openly, it would surely affect his reputation, so he found the owner of the jewel shop intending to finish the rest of the Glazed Glass Bead’s story and then rightfully spend the one hundred thousand.

His gaze swept over the exquisitely beautiful array of gemstones, but Yang Yu’s eyes didn’t linger on them for too long; he acted as if he was completely used to the sight, striding in with his head held high and greeted the lady at the counter.

At this time.

In a room in the jewel shop, Ge Gen, dressed in luxurious attire, was fondling the Glazed Glass Bead without putting it down.

He had already had it appraised by professionals more skilled than himself, and it was confirmed that this thing could hardly be replicated with the current level of Human ability; this also meant that this tiny Glazed Glass Bead was a unique treasure in the world.

With it, becoming wealthy was no dream.

While Ge Gen was indulging in thoughts of how many times the value of this small Glazed Glass Bead might multiply in his hands, a lady at the counter knocked on his room’s door to inform him that Yang Yu had arrived.

Ge Gen’s chubby face twitched slightly; he was quite surprised by Yang Yu’s sudden visit.

“Why is he here?

It hasn’t been many days; has he changed his mind?

Just when I’ve started to take a liking to this thing, what if….”

Ge Gen knitted his brows and told the lady at the counter to attend to Yang Yu first; then he carefully placed the Glazed Glass Bead into a jewelry box, stowed it away, and waddled into the VIP room.

Inside the VIP room, Yang Yu was savoring his tea, and even an ordinary person would be able to tell that the tea leaves this time were much better than before.

Strolling leisurely into the VIP room, Ge Gen saw Yang Yu and smiled somewhat sycophantically.

“Such a rare guest, Mr.

Yang Yu.

I apologize for not greeting you further out.

May I ask what urgent matter brings you to our humble shop today?”

“With such a store, calling it a ‘humble shop’ really is modest of you.”

“Not at all, not at all.”

After exchanging pleasantries for a bit, Yang Yu got straight to the point, “No need for small talk.

Today, I’ve come to reclaim the Glazed Glass Bead I sold here.”

“Why so suddenly?” Ge Gen asked with a chuckle.

“Nothing much.

It’s just that life here is even more boring than I had imagined.

I can’t stay for a month.

I plan to look elsewhere, so to prevent you from shouldering unnecessary losses, I intend to buy back the Glazed Glass Bead according to our agreement.”

Yang Yu sipped his tea, perfectly calm.

Although he had spent quite a bit of the one hundred thousand Gold Coin he had on him, he didn’t panic inside at all.

If he failed, the worst-case scenario would be to borrow some money from someone else, cover the initial costs, and then find other channels to sell the glass beads.

However, he believed that the jewelry store owner no longer wanted to give the glass beads back to him.

Sure enough, Ge Gen’s face showed an expression of extreme difficulty.

He had spent too much time and effort on that tiny glass bead, thinking day and night about how he could sell this little glass bead for a sky-high price.

He couldn’t eat or sleep, and had grown quite attached to the small glass bead.

Now, Yang Yu wanted to use just over ten thousand more to repurchase the glass bead he was so attached to, and all he wanted to do was shout at Yang Yu: “Get lost, the farther the better!

Once you sold it, this Glazed Glass Bead is mine!”

Fortunately, Ge Gen, recalling Yang Yu might be some noble existence, still retained a shred of rationality and said respectfully on the surface:

“Umm…

Mr.

Yang Yu, to be frank, I’ve actually found a buyer.

We’ve agreed on a deal for two hundred thousand for this Glazed Glass Bead.

You once said that if you sold this item to me and I worked hard to find a buyer and managed to sell it, it would be a surefire profitable deal.

I’ve done as you said, and everything has gone as you envisioned.

The Glazed Glass Bead is still in my possession, but if you suddenly take it back, I’ll have no way to explain it to that person.”

Since Yang Yu was only leaving because he found this life boring, not because he found a better buyer, Ge Gen still had a chance.

Having thrived in the gemstone business for many years, Ge Gen’s greatest skill was extracting the information he needed from others’ words and making the most optimal business decisions.

For example, while chatting with a noblewoman, he could always detect what aspect of her appearance she was most concerned about.

Then, he’d steer the conversation accordingly, leading it to gemstones, thereby promoting his gemstones.

“To think you’ve found a buyer so quickly, it seems I’ve underestimated you,” Yang Yu put down his teacup, smiling.

“It is indeed a bit cheeky of me to ask you to return the Glazed Glass Bead now.

But are you sure you want to sell this bead?

As you can see, it’s merely a Creation, and as society develops, profit-seeking people will eventually come up with something similar one day.”

“Don’t worry about that aspect.

What we gemstone merchants care about is the present.

I’ve been through gemstone mines being discovered leading to a plummet in gemstone values.

As long as we make a big profit before others catch on, that’s all that matters.”

Ge Gen displayed the unique smile of a merchant, cunning and sly.

“How about this, Mr.

Yang Yu?

This time, I’ll earn a little less.

Give me fifty thousand, and consider the Glazed Glass Bead officially bought.

You won’t need to ensure its value anymore.

Go wherever you want, and consider this fifty thousand as travel money for you.

I hope you have a good time.”

“You’re worthy of being a jewelry store owner indeed, with such insight.

You know that risks and rewards coexist and have calmly taken on the risk.” Yang Yu looked at Ge Gen with appreciation.

“Given what you’ve said, I wouldn’t be right to insist on the return of my Glazed Glass Bead, especially since I sold it to you first.

No need for the fifty thousand, just give me thirty-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine.

The bit over ten thousand can be considered as me sharing a bit more risk with you, to make a friend.”

Hearing Yang Yu say this, Ge Gen breathed a sigh of relief and then cracked a slight smile.

“It’s a deal.”
