40: Chapter 40 Racial Essence 40: Chapter 40 Racial Essence [Hidden Task: Legacy of the Goblin Emperor.

By chance, you obtained the key to the Goblin Emperor’s legacy; the Goblin Emperor was very mysterious during his lifetime.

After his death, the Goblin Empire crumbled, but death was not his end.

Before he died, he ordered the creation of an underground city and placed most of his property there.

Task requirements: Find the underground city of the Goblin Emperor and clear it.

Rewards: Experience ????, Eleven Consecutive Draws, guaranteed Rare or better tools, title “Terminator of the Goblin Empire”.]

This gemstone necklace turns out to be the tool to activate the hidden task.

Upon closer inspection, it is a pink-quality Equipment.

Its name is “Goblin’s Divine Hand,” which provides a massive attribute boost.

Moreover, there’s an active once a month that uses some blood to charge and adjust attributes of a selected target, essentially, a respec.

However, both the equipment and user must be goblins, rendering it useless for Yang Yu, a human.

Perhaps he could utilize the Fusion System, but Yang Yu was hesitant to mix with a goblin; the thought of his nose growing long like Pinocchio’s and his body turning green was intolerable.

“I didn’t help much this time.

I am really sorry.” Bai Jin lowered her head.

For once, she had a chance to perform, but her sickness hindered her, and it was ultimately He Meng who had to finish off the task.

“No, you really helped a lot.

It was the task I asked you to complete, and you did very well.”

Yang Yu smiled, and Bai Jin turned away, blushing, biting her lip, staying silent to avoid saying anything odd.

“Speaking of which, what illness do you have?”

To allow himself to slack off, no— to make Bai Jin the cornerstone and core output of the team—Yang Yu had planned to start acting immediately after the task of source suppression, to cure Bai Jin’s frail attribute.

Since Bai Jin was there, he decided to ask directly from her rather than relying on hearsay.

“My illness…”

Initially, Yang Yu thought Bai Jin would mention some disease he had never heard of.

Instead, Bai Jin simply shook her head, signaling him not to pry further.

The atmosphere suddenly turned awkward.

No new task popped up in the system, nor did any hints.

Yang Yu scratched his head, troubled by not knowing the cause of the illness, which meant he could not treat it effectively.

“How should we treat it?

Do you have any clues?”

Bai Jin shook her head again.

“Have you seen a doctor?

What did they say?”

Although he raised another question, Bai Jin remained silent, unwilling to respond.

“Tomorrow, I’ll take you to a hospital.

Let’s check out what the illness is.” Yang Yu was persistent, and after some thought, taking Bai Jin to the hospital was the only option left.

“Hehehe, it’s useless, those incompetents can’t do anything about my condition.

If you ask why, my symptoms are no different from a common cold or flu.

At worst, I can be bedridden for days, but no one can pinpoint the cause.”

A eerie laughter resonated in Yang Yu’s room.

Bai Jin clutched her Magic Wand, shaking,

“Hehehe, perhaps because I’ve studied too much Curse Magic, even my body ended up cursed as well?

To counter a curse, the best way is to fight poison with poison.

I will definitely create the most powerful Magic Potion in the world and cure myself.”

Bai Jin laughed loudly, but Yang Yu could feel that there was no joy in her laughter; she was merely forcing a smile.

Under her messy hair, her eyes looked as empty as when they first met.

Now Yang Yu knew that it was a look of helplessness, which also contained the courage of a person ready to bear everything on her own.

Although Yang Yu wouldn’t call it courage,

“Don’t force yourself.

If there’s anything, we can discuss it.

Aren’t we companions now?”

Still met with silence, Yang Yu scratched his head,

“At least say something…”

“I’m happy you care so much about me,” Bai Jin turned, gently closing Yang Yu’s room door, “But still, I need to find a way to cure my illness myself.

Good night.”

The door closed completely, cutting off the warm light from Yang Yu’s room.

Bai Jin clenched her chest, walking alone down the empty corridor under the dim light.

…

The next day.

Yang Yu went to the adventurer’s guild’s tavern early in the morning, having not chased after her the night before.

He knew that pursuing her would only have the opposite effect.

To understand Bai Jin’s condition, he needed to find another way.

Having met such a uniquely talented NPC, Ghost Talent could hardly stand by and let her perish on her own.

Today, Yang Yu left his words here.

The NPC he took interest in—he would certainly cure her illness whether she wanted it or not.

Well, that’s rather domineering.

In the tavern, Andro was posting new tasks on the task board, tasked with hunting the remnants of the Goblin King.

Previously, the Goblin King had mistaken a portion of the elite in the rescue team as being split to deal with him, thus dispersing his forces, and they managed to defeat the Goblin King.

With the Goblin King down, leaving aside the rest of his forces in the forest, should the Goblin King’s direct troops learn of their king’s fall, there’s no telling what terrible things they might do.

They might even burst out of the forest and start massacring civilians.

To prevent this, Andro had suggested hunting these remnants to the union early this morning, and it was quickly approved.

“Yo, Yang Yu, the weather’s nice today, how about we go hunt some remnants together?” Upon seeing Yang Yu arrive, Andro laughed heartily and with a show of his bulging pectorals, warmly invited him to hunt the Goblin Remnants.

Level capped, there wouldn’t be any experience points gained; there was no point in hunting remnants.

Unable to level up, Yang Yu felt immensely anxious inside.

His current adversaries he could just barely manage, but future ones remained uncertain.

At level 20, he was barely stronger than an average soldier.

When the Demon King Descended, he would definitely end up as cannon fodder.

“I was too tired from fighting yesterday, I’m planning to rest for a few days,” Yang Yu tactfully declined Andro and then said, “I’m here to inquire about something.

First off, do you know about Racial Essence?”

“Racial Essence, as the name suggests, is the essence that encompasses all the characteristics of a species.

The methods of production vary: some races burn their body hair to extract Racial Essence, others extract directly from their blood, but most species gather the strength of outstanding members through tools, forming Racial Essence.”

Andro, far from being annoyed by Yang Yu’s blunt approach, actually found it quite heroic and thus shared all he knew with Yang Yu.

“Overall, Racial Essence can be considered a masterpiece of a race, requiring only a small amount to enhance the potential of one member of the species.

Therefore, Racial Essence is regarded as a Secret Treasure among races.

In order to use it judiciously, most races regularly hold internal competitions to select outstanding young members, significantly enhancing their potential and strength, turning them into new pillars of the race.”

Andro paused, flexing his robust biceps.

“Lord Yang Yu, I understand your thoughts.

You can restrain a powerful enemy, but you are ultimately unable to inflict effective damage on the enemy and often find yourself in a passive position in battle, thus you are eager to become stronger.

I must remind you, while it’s good to wish to become stronger, you must also use the right methods and not resort to any Evil Path.

Racial Essence indeed can greatly improve one’s potential and strength, but it also carries risks; one must be careful not to be eroded and turned into a complete monster.”
