Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

42: Chapter 42 So Terrifying 42: Chapter 42 So Terrifying “The task carries certain risks, but correspondingly, the rewards are substantial.”

Tela was about to continue speaking about the rewards when Yang Yu suddenly interrupted him.

“Tell me, you should know about the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce?”

Yang Yu’s casual question made Tela shudder, “Why suddenly ask about that?

Does this have anything to do with the task we are discussing now?”

What frightened Tela even more was that Yang Yu presented an extremely casual attitude.

“It’s nothing, I was just asking casually.”

I don’t believe you at all!

A drop of cold sweat slid down from Tela’s clean brow.

They were still discussing the task, and there was no way this young man would ask this question so casually unless he already knew that the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce was behind this task.

It shouldn’t be, I hadn’t given any hint away, how could I have been spotted?

As if seeing through Tela’s thoughts, Yang Yu threw another question, “Do you know what the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce does?”

The Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce was the leading commerce group in the country until a few years ago, almost universally known, only recently superseded by Silver Orchid Commerce.

If one were to guess who might be the hidden hand behind this task, it would inevitably be the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce.

An internal panic seized Tela, but he maintained a outwardly calm demeanor; the dense wrinkles on his forehead making it difficult to detect the subtle changes on his face.

“The Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce is a state-owned commerce group in this country, formed by several families.

Each family extracts some profit and then hands over the remainder to the state.

Although the families’ share might seem excessive, the convenience they bring is undeniable…”

“I’m not interested in their structure, I want to know about their business scope, you understand what I mean?”

This was clearly a probing question.

Tela wiped his beard, suppressing his internal surprise.

The business scope of the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce overlapped significantly with that of Silver Orchid Union, and the two had always been neck and neck.

This young man had already concluded that the hidden hand was the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce.

What should I do?

Should I deny it to the death?

No, regardless of how stubbornly I deny it, he already suspects the source of this task.

It’s better to be straightforward.

Andro had related an incident to Tela, a story that Tela could still vividly recall, where one could predict the opponent’s moves without seeing them and use this to induce the opponent to make the wrong decisions, ultimately gaining victory.

This man was not as simple as he appeared.

In just a few words, he guessed that the task was from Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce and discerned his relationship with them, truly terrifying indeed.

“I understand what you mean,” Tela cleared his throat, “Rest assured, we will not let you down.”

“Oh, then let me ask you, can I choose from the Skill Scrolls you’ve prepared?

I don’t want to end up with a useless skill.”

Did you guess that too?

Tela’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

The task was of extremely high danger, and reasonable compensation was necessary to ensure the adventurers stayed highly motivated.

Skill Scrolls, which allowed practitioners to learn skills simply by absorbing them, were the best motivator for adventurers, especially the scrolls containing rare skills.

This time, in order to ensure the adventurers were entirely committed, the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce was also prepared to deck out a few exceptional skill scrolls as rewards.

Unbelievable, he had seen through this as well.

“You can rest assured on this point; later on, based on your profession, you will be given a range of choices.

You won’t be let down.”

“That’s good, I’ll trust you this time.

I’ll take on the task.

I hope you’ll satisfy me when the time comes.”

Regardless of the fact that he could freeload skills, Yang Yu naturally didn’t refuse such tasks.

However…

The old man became evasive whenever asked about the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce, dodging my questions.

Could it be that despite its grand name, the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce is actually an insignificant minor commerce association?

I didn’t want to receive a Discount Voucher and then not know where to use it, making a fool of myself, so I decided to inquire about the operational scope of the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce.

But it seemed, they were indeed a small commerce association.

To obtain evidence, was it to catch others by their weaknesses, thereby threatening to blackmail Silver Orchid Commerce, or was the plan to report them directly, breaking the monopoly?

Well, what they actually did with those items wasn’t really my concern, as an adventurer, as long as they paid enough, it was fine by me.

Speaking of tasks, Silver Orchid Commerce wasn’t any better, offered skills were subpar, it was just like eliminating a threat to the public.

However, after all this talk, the rewards didn’t seem to include the Racial Essence I wanted.

“There’s another thing, Racial Essence does not seem to be included in your rewards…”

Once again caught by his statement, Tela didn’t know how to respond and could only hesitantly state the facts.

“Racial Essence isn’t easy to come by, and to be frank, the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce doesn’t have such an item.

That kind of thing can’t be obtained without using some special methods.

However, I can tell you for certain that Silver Orchid Commerce has it.

I assume they stole it from the Plant Clan of the Sub-human Kingdom.

It is also with that item that they’ve created the currently popular Revive Elixir.”

As soon as he heard the words “Revive Elixir,” Yang Yu immediately perked up, “Revive Elixir?

Can that thing really bring back the dead?”

“That’s purely marketing hype.

However, it’s said no matter how severe the injury, as long as there is a breath left, using that elixir will make one jump up lively again, and it even cures all diseases.

It does have some effectiveness in that aspect; otherwise, that tiny elixir wouldn’t be able to sell at such a high price,” Tela explained.

“Psh—just as I thought, it’s a scam.”

Not being able to truly revive the dead was slightly disappointing for Yang Yu; during his year of farming, he had inquired about many things.

In this world, revival seemed to be a miracle exclusive to gods.

Once dead, even the holiest Holy Maiden couldn’t resurrect.

Thus, in the strategy, Yang Yu could not afford to set up sacrificial victims among his NPCs, as once an NPC died, they were really gone.

If later he needed those NPCs, he would be left staring helplessly.

After continuing to talk with Tela for a while, specifying the rewards, the date of action, and a series of action plans, Yang Yu finally bid farewell to Tela and went off to the tavern to search for information about Bai Jin.

The door slowly closed, Tela let out a sigh of relief, pulled out a purple Crystal Ball, and quickly connected it; appearing on it was a face as aged as his, but with a hint more nobility and weathered experience and now a touch of anxiety.

He was the current Commerce Association President of the Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce, Carlo Joy.

As soon as the Crystal Ball connected, Carlo couldn’t wait to inquire about Tela’s situation.

“How is it?

Did you find the right person?”

Tela hesitated for a long while, not speaking, unsure of how to start to explain everything that had just occurred.

“Is the task too difficult after all?

I thought as long as the reward was enough, someone would be found,” Carlo’s expression dimmed, realizing they might have to risk exposure by sending their own people.

Tela shook his head slowly and said, “Not exactly.

I found someone, as you requested, not too high a level, with excellent judgment.

Everything is perfect.”

“Then why are you still making such a troubled face?”

“Perhaps, I’ve picked a rather remarkable young man as our helper.”

Carlo fell silent; it had been a long time since he had heard his old friend speak so highly of a young person.

“If you rate him like that, maybe I should meet him.”

“I was thinking the same.

And don’t forget to secure their way out.

Whether they complete the task or not, I don’t want them to fall into the hands of Silver Orchid Commerce.”

“That’s also my wish.”
