Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

18: Chapter 18: Everyone Present is Trash 18: Chapter 18: Everyone Present is Trash “Due to the large number of adventurers disappearing, the guild had become chaotic, and even though various emergency tasks were issued, no one was willing to take them because the tasks themselves were too dangerous, and the low-level adventurers all felt they were at risk.

To hire high-level adventurers would be costly and also time-consuming.

It had been a very long time since such events had occurred, countable on one’s fingers in the four hundred years since the Gate of Demon World was sealed.

You were lucky, walking through an area with fewer goblins, and also encountering help from Sekamens, one of the exceptional young adventurers, otherwise, you would have disappeared like those adventurers, with your fate unknown.”

The severity of the situation had far exceeded expectations, and the guards would always sigh when they chatted.

After a while, the front desk attendant, looking exhausted, hurried back, handed over the reception of adventurers to the guards, and then spread out a thick stack of documents on the table, nervously beginning her work, not at all in a state to engage in conversation.

At a glance, the documents she was processing were for the application of high-level adventurers’ support nearby and the formation of a large temporary adventure group.

Even if such documents were approved, in such an atmosphere, it would likely be difficult to gather the required manpower to form a temporary adventure group.

Not wishing to disturb the front desk attendant, Yang Yu approached the guard who had become a temporary receptionist, applied for a task, and personally posted it on the mission board.

[Task: The fog in Goblin Forest is a mystery, entering alone is close to a sure death.

In these extraordinary times, I imagine you are all bored, and so am I.

As a newly debuted adventurer, I have decided to set up an arena, to exchange moves with peers of the same level.

Every D-level adventurer who defeats me will receive a substantial reward (500 Gold Coins).

Of course, I will not lose.

Do not get me wrong, I am not targeting anyone in particular, but what I mean to say is that everyone present is garbage.]

As soon as this mission was posted, the dull tavern immediately exploded.

“This guy is too arrogant, he is totally looking down on us!

I remember he just registered as an adventurer yesterday, right?

Yet he claims no one at D-level can defeat him, do you know how long I stayed at D-level without being able to advance to C-level?

No, I must teach this youngster a lesson today, to show him the harshness of this society.”

“There’s 500G to be made from a fight, and no loss if I lose, why not take it!”

“Perfect, I’ve been itching for a fight too.

Since he’s presented himself, I will not hold back.”

One by one, brawny men rubbed their hands in anticipation, their eyes aflame, and took on the task.

Originally, Yang Yu thought to use this method to increase his experience when he reached a higher level.

But now, to penetrate deeper into Goblin Forest and carry out the urgent task, he had to risk losing money by being defeated, forcing a confrontation by taunting the adventurers present.

Currently, the plan was going smoothly, many adventurers expressed their desire to beat him up.

Since the adventurer guild prohibited private fighting, Yang Yu set up the arena in a training area frequently visited by adventurers.

Many D-level adventurers who hadn’t taken on the task, yet were keen on excitement, gathered around, planning to watch and then decide whether to join based on the situation.

D-level adventurer’s skills were inconsistent: some had attributes nearly identical to his own, while others were almost at the threshold of C-level like members of Sekamens’ team.

Whenever Yang Yu encountered an opponent he could defeat, he would spare no mercy in his attacks.

If the strength disparity was too great, he also didn’t skimp on admitting defeat, casually conceding after a few moves.

Initially, struggling was inevitable, Yang Yu lost more than he won, helplessly watching as his Gold Coins flowed out, but fortunately, he did not mind at all.

Originally those D-level adventurers, who had come to watch the spectacle from the stands, frequently saw others proudly carrying away 500 Gold Coins, so they couldn’t restrain their fighting spirit and challenged him one after another.

Yang Yu naturally welcomed all comers.”

Gradually, the rule for combat had turned into simply presenting a D-level adventurer’s name tag and you could fight, with no need to undertake tasks from the adventurer’s guild.

Actually, many D-level adventurers came just to taunt Yang Yu, noticing how generously he was paying and suddenly realizing that Yang Yu’s interest was not in money.

This guy was totally here for charity.

He had just been talking merrily with that guard, definitely must have taken up some secret task from that knight, in these extraordinary times, to liven up the atmosphere and fill everyone’s heart with hope.

The adventurer’s guild, really, wanted to distribute consolation money to us low-ranking D-level adventurers but couldn’t lower their pride, so they came up with this scheme.

As for those who failed, the seated D-level adventurers shrugged and laughed, unable to defeat even a newbie who just joined the adventurer’s guild, better change the profession early!

Time slowly passed, Yang Yu’s physical strength was greatly depleted, and without a Priest, he could only rely on Herbal Medicine or Potions for recovery.

After each match, he would stuff his mouth full of Herbal Medicine or Potion, finished and then would ask Bai Jin to run errands to buy some more from a nearby pharmacy.

After several times, Yang Yu had developed a aura of a medicine pot, He Meng also felt that Yang Yu reeked entirely, laying on Bai Jin’s shoulder, unwilling to get close to Yang Yu anymore.

“Hehe, you have a strange scent on you, like you’ve been thrown into a potent potion I made, thoroughly soaked.

If you keep this up, you’ll definitely turn into a human-shaped pill and monsters in the forest will chase you everywhere.

If you don’t want to end up like that, don’t overexert yourself.”

Bai Jin tried to offer a few comforting words with a smile, telling Yang Yu to take care of his health, but again inadvertently let out a strange laugh and said strange things.

“Thanks for your concern.

Don’t worry, it’s almost over.”

“Do you understand what I mean?”

“Well, pretty much.”

After spending a day together, Yang Yu basically figured out Bai Jin’s personality and way of behaving.

Isn’t it just that when excited or agitated, some truthful strange words slip out?

I’ve played so many games, seen plenty of tsunderes, understanding their hidden meanings is much easier than understanding yours.

Swallowing another Herbal Medicine, Yang Yu left the resting area to enter the training ground.

Belching satisfactorily, he looked at his Attribute Panel, where a new item had starkly appeared under Resistance: Drug Resistance +10%.

Eating too much Herbal Medicine had resulted in resistance building up, no wonder he felt that each potion restored less Physical Strength.

Yang Yu shivered, if this Drug Resistance kept increasing until it reached one hundred percent, he guessed he would die of illness without any effective medicine available.

It seemed, some Resistance wasn’t always better when higher.

Livening up his body, compared to the morning, Yang Yu’s physique was much firmer, and his Level had also risen.

More importantly, he had figured out whatever Skills these guys had, knew how to be cautious, and was confident in his heart.

As evening approached, Yang Yu’s comeback finally started.

In every match, he performed effortlessly, knocking down many who were confident in their own abilities, ending the battle in a streak of eleven consecutive victories, his Experience Bar was just filled, his Level crossing from 18 to 19.
