Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

44: Chapter 44 Stand Up and Reach Out Your Hand 44: Chapter 44 Stand Up and Reach Out Your Hand After a trip to the jewelry store and unintentionally scoring nearly forty thousand dollars, Yang Yu didn’t expect it.

He somewhat anticipated that the jewelry store owner would refuse his request, but he never imagined that the owner would directly use the argument that the glass beads had already been sold as a major trump card, saving him the trouble of persuading him.

Next, all that remained was to go back and discuss the details of sneaking in and escaping together with Bai Jin.

Returning to the hotel, Bai Jin and He Meng were playing together in the lobby.

Perhaps because Bai Jin was a Curse Mage, she seemed to understand part of what He Meng meant.

The two of them, one human, one Slime, got along very well.

Taking Bai Jin to a table to sit down, Yang Yu didn’t beat around the bush, “Today, I asked around a bit about your situation.”

“I already told you, I will take care of my own illness.

You don’t need to worry about me.” Bai Jin’s tone revealed clear displeasure, as if Yang Yu had completely dismissed what she had said the day before.

“You weren’t an adventurer from this area originally.

You came here after hearing that a big city nearby has a medicine that can cure all illnesses,” Yang Yu continued, undeterred by Bai Jin’s displeasure, “Many adventurers often see you with flyers, reading them over and over again.

That must be the medicine you want, right?”

With her secret exposed, Bai Jin had nothing left to hide, and she revealed an eerie and terrifying smile, “Ehehe, right!

That potion can indeed cure my disease.

For this, I’ve been scrimping and saving, and now I’m just a little short of my goal.

As long as I get that medicine, I can be rid of this damned sickness.

After so many years, I’ve completely mastered how this sickness works.

Once I’m cured, I can mass-produce these diseases, turning them into a new source of curses for me, and my power will grow even further.”

Yang Yu took a poster out of his pocket and pushed it towards Bai Jin.

It was a poster for an auction, listing various items for sale, among which the most eye-catching was a golden liquid contained in a crystal bottle.

“Unfortunately, it’s just a fantasy of yours.

The Resurrection Potion, it looks like it’s not just empty talk.

A general who was wounded in the waist on the battlefield drank it, and he actually got back on his feet, even more robust and imposing than before.

This is more effective than any advertisement, and the price of the resurrection medicine, originally fifty thousand a bottle, skyrocketed because of this.

Furthermore, because the production of this potion is extremely low and the demand outstrips the supply, the price continued to climb, eventually leading to its auction.

The starting bid is a solid five hundred thousand, often ending in tens of millions, a potion only true nobles can afford.

I don’t think, with your modest income as a D-rank adventurer, you’ll be able to save up bit by bit and compete with those nobles.”

Bai Jin clenched her fists tightly, yes, just as Yang Yu had said, even if she scrimped and saved that way, even without spending a dime on herself, she was still getting farther and farther away from her goal.

But she hasn’t lost hope because of that.

If the technology to produce that medicine is broken through and the potion is produced in large quantities, causing the price to fall, then she might still have a chance.

“I advise you not to be too naive.

Even if that medicine can be produced in large quantities, those capitalists will still throttle supply for their own benefit.

They will stick to this one-bottle-per-week production rate, hyping up the price to astronomical levels, and with just a little cost, they can make a huge markup.

Why would they change their current marketing strategy before a competitor appears?

As for the excess medicine they produce, they have all means to digest it internally.

It’s never going to be your turn.

That’s the cruel reality.”

Yang Yu’s words ruthlessly shattered Bai Jin’s fantasy.

Tears welled in Bai Jin’s eyes, and even though they were obscured by her messy hair, Yang Yu could feel her sadness and powerlessness.

“Then what should I do?” Bai Jin’s voice trembled, and she didn’t know what to do, “Did you come here just to taunt me, to make me give up my unrealistic fantasy?”

Ever since her father left her, she had wandered alone for a long time.

She had finally seen a glimmer of hope and reached out for it, but no matter what, she couldn’t grasp that elusive hope.

In the end, she could only choose to numb herself.

As long as she had a goal to continue moving forward, she wouldn’t lose the courage to keep on living.

“I certainly don’t have the spare time to come here and taunt you,” Yang Yu smiled, his smile shining brightly like the sun, “I just mean to say, I have a way to help you get that medicine.

That way, your illness will be cured, right?”

Help me get the medicine?

Bai Jin’s mouth opened wide in disbelief.

That was a potion worth millions — could he really get it?

“Why do you want to help me?

Did you take a fancy to me?

Ehehe, you intend to cure me with the medicine, and then I’ll be forever grateful to you.”

And you could do whatever you pleased with my body, like inserting needles one by one, listening to my screams, the more heart-wrenching they are, the more excited you get.

Then, you’d heal me only to conduct all sorts of bizarre experiments on me again and, when you finally grew tired, you’d kick me away, leaving me to fend for myself.

I’d be lost and dispirited, and just when I started to have hope in life again, you’d intervene and destroy everything good in my life.

Ahaha, you really are a sadistic guy.”

Yang Yu almost sprayed water from his mouth.

“Don’t be paranoid with weird persecution delusions.

Do I look like that kind of person to you?”

Calm and confident, completely unlike, Bai Jin clutched her Magic Wand tightly, “Then why are you helping me?”

“To be honest, I covet your body.”

Yang Yu said matter-of-factly, a statement that took Bai Jin completely aback.

She fumbled with her messy hair, but no matter how much she tried, she couldn’t smooth out the tousled ends.

“So that’s it, it’s like that.

Ah, can I take it that you’ve fallen for me?

No, that can’t be possible.

Ahaha, I understand now, you must just want to use me as an outlet.

Although I’m so gloomy and like to say strange things, some people do like weird girls like me!

Hehehe, okay, if you really can cure my illness, I wouldn’t mind being used by you as a Tool Man.

But you have to treat me well, just like a normal couple.

If you think of handing me over to other men, or want me to go to certain special places, I’ll never forgive you.

Shattering my illusions of love, I’ll curse you for the rest of your life with my very being.”

Lady, you’re moving a bit fast, the wheels are already hitting my face.

Miss, to be clear, I do indeed covet your body, but what I’m after is your intelligence over 200, your exceptional Magic talent, your Healing Prohibition; don’t misunderstand me.

Healing Prohibition is a Divine Skill; in the Late Stage, against various zombies, vampires, and other monsters with strong healing abilities, you can’t fight them without reducing Healing.

Otherwise, you can be outmatched by their regeneration, one dose of Despair’s healing can lead to numerous instances of a team’s downfall.

Therefore, Yang Yu also valued Bai Jin greatly.

“I’m sorry, I lied to you just now.”

“Eh—Is that so…” Bai Jin said, dejectedly lowering her head, “Was it all a lie to deceive me?

I thought so…

Such expensive Potions, they couldn’t possibly be given to me easily.

I was actually ready to sacrifice myself…”

“The part about getting the Potions for you isn’t false.”

“Eh?”

Bai Jin looked up incredulously, peering through her messy hair, she saw the utmost seriousness on Yang Yu’s face.

“Also, about love, it should be about two people who genuinely like each other being together, right?

I won’t force myself to love someone, nor will I force someone to love me.

You can be at ease.”

“Then why help me?”

“How should I put it?

I’m on the verge of an unprecedented adventure and I need reliable companions.

Didn’t I tell you from the start?

You’re strong, so, I wanted to be your teammate.

This thought has never changed from the beginning.

If I really get the potion and cure your illness, I hope you can become my true companion, to accompany me through my whole adventure.”

Standing up, Yang Yu reached out his hand to Bai Jin,

“I can guarantee, this will indeed be an unprecedented adventure.

How about it, won’t you join me?”
