Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 534: Chapter 176 Experience

Chen Ming saw the memories inside the memory unit, starting from when the Insect Queen was still dormant inside an asteroid.

This was an asteroid discovered long ago by the Star Zone Military, identified to contain the Thorn Insect Race and rare mineral deposits.

Although referred to as an asteroid, its diameter was nearly a kilometer.

While the military had the capability to mine it, they did not, and instead tried to figure out a way to drag the asteroid to the Star System where the Mining Space Station was, deliberately allowing the Space Station to detect it.

The Mining Space Station indeed carried out its tasks according to the military’s wishes.

Upon locating the asteroid and detecting rare minerals on it.

The Space Station proactively dispatched a tugboat to tow the asteroid to the mining area of the Mining Space Station.

Utilizing the large mining lasers and extraction devices here to develop the asteroid.

On the day preparations for mining were completed, the first batch of special metal ore was harvested, and more high-value minerals were detected.

The Space Station held a celebration banquet.

Then, someone took advantage of the shift change for mining operators who were still working during the celebration banquet to manually adjust the mining plan.

Originally, had the Space Station mined the asteroid according to normal safety procedures.

Within a few days, the asteroid’s outer shell would thin out, reducing the interference from the Insect Nest’s secretions on the civilian-grade scanners of the Space Station.

This meant the Mining Space Station was highly likely to discover anomalies within the asteroid and take preemptive measures.

However, the modified mining plan completely ignored mining safety regulations, leading to the insects inside being released unexpectedly.

And due to the earlier mining activities, the internal insects had awakened, the frenzied insects that had been clattering for two days instantly flooded into the Space Station.

The person who changed the plan was definitely a mole planted by the military and had a certain status, otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to change the mining plan under such circumstances.

As for the fate of this person, the Insect Queen was well aware.

Because after releasing the insects, he hid in a corner of the mining area.

Operating several industrial robots, he entered the asteroid after nearly all the insects had exited from it.

He stole an egg from the Thorn Insect Race’s nest and immediately used a prepared chemical to induce dormancy in the egg.

The Thorn Insect Race, even thirty years ago, was a rare species just like now, and their eggs indeed have considerable value.

This person then stored the egg securely, specifically placing it in a concealed corner of the warehouse, planning to find an opportunity to leave with the egg.

Then he was killed by the Insect Queen who had been keeping an eye on him.

However, even if the Insect Queen had not killed him, he likely would have been shot dead by the Star Zone Military personnel stationed outside the Space Station.

Meanwhile, the insects that flooded into the Space Station did cause significant damage to the station.

This is wrong.

The Mining Space Station is located in the Edge Star Realm, and it certainly has basic defensive capabilities.

Even an internal attack would be the same.

Moreover, those who can make a living in the Edge Star Realm, unless like Chen Ming who voluntarily came here for a promotion and is purely a technical staff, having nothing else to do besides hibernating and working.

Most others have experienced combat to some extent.

The sudden emergence of the insects certainly would cause temporary chaos within the Space Station, but after some casualties, the station management should be able to mount a defense.

After all, this is just a small number of insects from within an asteroid, not a fully developed Insect Race army.

But in the Insect Queen’s memory.

The Space Station mounted no significant resistance, only a few scattered individuals made futile counterattacks against the attacking insects.

Some of the Space Station’s automated defense measures barely hindered the Insect Race’s advance, with no other resistance efforts visible.

It was as if this place wasn’t a Space Station located in the Edge Star Realm known for its fierce spirit.

As for the reason for this situation, Chen Ming also understood from the Insect Queen’s memory.

It was during the most memorable scene in that memory segment.

It was when the Insect Queen’s swarm reached the living quarters of the Space Station and found the hall where the celebration banquet was held.

When the insects burst open the hall doors.

In front of them lay tables of dishes relatively luxurious for the Edge Star Realm, and beside them were corpses with flushed faces collapsed all over the floor.

All the management of the Space Station and heads of various workgroups were dead.

Many employees, who due to work obligations could not attend the banquet but received leftovers from the kitchen, also lay dead at their workstations.

Even some individuals from mining ships or merchant convoys temporarily docking at the Mining Space Station who happened to be passing by and attended the banquet as invited guests were found dead here.

This indiscriminate large-scale poisoning led to the Space Station completely losing its leadership.

The remaining ordinary employees and other civilians were unable to organize any meaningful resistance, only able to flee for their own safety.

But outside, the Star Zone Military’s ships were lying in wait.

This was a dead end.

The star system where the Mining Space Station was located was then placed under a blockade.
