High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2950: Chapter 1168: Cat Helps Cat!

No wizard can resist the allure of the Xuanhuang Fruit.

Low-level wizards can use it to improve magical affinity and enhance their physique; mid-level wizards can use it to leap directly over a long accumulation period and directly condense a complete true form; high-level wizards can use it to break through bottlenecks and glimpse the realm of legends.

It can be said that from little wizards who have never registered to big wizards whose true form has long been solidified, they all covet this fruit.

Except for Zheng Qing.

Because he’s the kind of wizard that’s hard to gauge with normal rationality.

In theory, he is still a little wizard who hasn’t even undergone the registration ceremony, but in practice, he has a foundation solidified by the Forbidden Curse seed from his mentor, a monster-like physique enhanced by the spirit seed from the crow, and legendary combat power provided by Taiyi. It can be said that at this stage, the marginal effect of the Xuanhuang Fruit on Zheng Qing is almost minimal.

If he had already advanced to a big wizard, he would certainly have no hesitation in stuffing this fruit into his mouth.

But now.

The young wizard shook his head slightly and took a deep breath, cleared his mind of distractions, and began to seriously consider various possibilities — the mentor is leaving, his combat power has been strengthened to the extreme, his path is clear, resources are not lacking, meaning using this fruit on himself would be too wasteful.

But using it on other wizards —

He immediately looked at his mentor.

”Can this fruit make your ’shell’ a bit sturdier?” His tone was shy, but he didn’t hide his intention to continue clinging to the big leg.

The Yellow Flowered Cat also looked curiously at the old man.

The mentor chuckled at the question and shook his head: ”Although this fruit is precious, it has no effect on me now. Its only use would be to just reminisce about its taste.”

First choice, PASS.

Without hesitation, Zheng Qing immediately threw out his second idea: ”... Then, mentor, can Taiyi eat this fruit? Is it beneficial to Him?”

The mentor had not yet spoken.

The Yellow Flowered Cat beside them jumped and shouted: ”That guy is already dead! Extinct! Turned into a weapon, there is no possibility of progress! Giving the Xuanhuang Fruit to him would be like throwing it into the cesspool! No! You could make a few pounds of manure in the cesspool, but feeding it to that dead corpse, He wouldn’t even shit it out!”

The words were crude.

But the logic wasn’t.

Hearing it say so, Zheng Qing was still somewhat hesitant and looked at the mentor, only to see him nod slightly and say nothing, so he knew this Flower Cat was probably telling the truth.

The mentor eating it would be useless, and Taiyi eating it would also be ineffective.

Looking around, there were very few people qualified to eat this fruit around Zheng Qing — the Flower Cat right in front of him counted as one, the green dragon currently beating up Leviathan under Taiyi’s command center counted as one, Su Shijun counted as one, Korma counted as half, and as for allies like Professor Yi and Professor Li, in this delicate time, they were even less considered.

Korma seemed like a good choice; giving her the fruit could also throw the trouble of the Dean of the Peripheral College onto her. However, after being seriously injured by Professor Montreya, Zheng Qing was unsure of her current state. Also, the foundation of Northern District Wizards was insufficient; giving her such a precious gift would create heavy karma, likely forcing her to repay with her body, which Zheng Qing suspected wouldn’t need wizards from outside to deal with — two witches by his side would likely kill him first.

Su Shijun, although talented, was ultimately too young. Giving her the fruit would likely only be enough to create a peak-level big wizard, not much help for Zheng Qing in overcoming his current situation.

In summary, giving the fruit to any witch wouldn’t work!

The little green dragon was a manifestation of the obsession of an ancient being, possessing a high stature and growing rapidly. Only days after breaking the shell, it could already beat Leviathan’s avatar. Zheng Qing had reason to believe that giving it the Xuanhuang Fruit would quickly create another legend.

The thought of possibly having another legendary fighter made his heart ablaze.

But that fellow had a peculiar temper and deep thoughts, having shown a bad record of skipping out soon after breaking the shell, although eventually pulled back by its original body, leaving a contract. Still, Zheng Qing wasn’t sure how much control the contract would hold once it became a legend.

After all, with contracts, Zheng Qing himself had ’breached’ many times, knowing best their strength.

Thinking of R’lyeh and the contract it left during the last meeting, Zheng Qing’s heart slightly moved, suddenly becoming unsure whether the ancient being saw some possibility in the future, increasing the little green snake’s success rate and granting him assurance, that led to placing the contract in advance.

And there’s the Flower Cat right in front.

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but scrutinize the Yellow Flowered Cat, seeing it staring eagerly at him with a pleading smile almost attached to his nose.

”Ahem, our Brother Huang...”

As soon as the boy opened his mouth with a few words, the Yellow Flowered Cat couldn’t wait to interrupt.

”Can eat! Can eat! Eating it won’t be wasted!” Clearly, it had guessed the boy’s intention and was so excited it almost jumped up from the table.

Zheng Qing laughed dryly, didn’t immediately agree, and asked: ”— We’ve known each other for so long, yet I still don’t know whether you are a wizard or a cat, and what rank you are...”

”I was a wizard before, then planned to follow the path of the ancestor of werewolves, advancing through the ancestral position to legend. But I failed to break through and accidentally turned into a cat, almost dying... Fortunately, the old man pulled me up, preventing me from dying, and instead turning disaster into blessing, becoming his proxy, an official legendary big cat! Though now the old man is about to ascend or leave, my proxy status is gone, and I’ve already slid back to being a big wizard.”

The Yellow Flowered Cat explained extensively, like pouring beans from a bamboo tube, spilling all his secrets to Zheng Qing, and then patted his chest with confidence: ”— But as long as you give me this Xuanhuang Fruit, I promise in two years, no, one year, no, within half a year, I can become a legend again! Although I might not necessarily beat Bubble and the others, ensuring your safety won’t be a problem! You are a cat, I’m a cat, cats don’t lie to cats!”

Not necessarily beating Bubble? It dared boast!

Zheng Qing inwardly scoffed.

He wore a fake smile on his face, pretending to be very embarrassed as he looked at it: ”— You know, the little green snake hanging on my ear is a manifestation of R’lyeh’s obsession, it’s now under a spirit contract with me...”

The Yellow Flowered Cat paused, then gritted its teeth and resolved: ”A contract, I can also sign one!”

Zheng Qing glanced at the mentor.

Seeing the mentor staring at the sky in silence, he became very curious.

”Why do I feel you are so... um, urgent?” He didn’t hide the doubts in his heart, asking very straightforwardly: ”— Is this fruit really that important to you?”

The Yellow Flowered Cat sighed.

”Giving the Xuanhuang Fruit to that snake is purely icing on the cake; R’lyeh is a newly ascended ancient being, still lively, and with added stature, it can become a legend quickly even without the fruit. But I’m not the same; my aptitude is poor, although I’ve accumulated some wealth over the years, without this fruit, to progress further would take at least a few decades of grind, with luck playing a role...”

Hearing this, Zheng Qing didn’t hesitate anymore, reaching out to pass the fruit to the Flower Cat.
