High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2932: Chapter 1150: The Key to Breaking the Deadlock

Offshore of Buji Island.

In the void.

Shi Hui watched Six Fingers nagging away beside that wooden, bald big guy, feeling rather bored and wanting to just walk off. But that big guy’s eyes were locked on her, with a look that said if she left, he’d dare set foot on the island.

It was truly infuriating.

Still, that little bit of irritation alone wasn’t enough to make her start a fight. After all, the two on the other side were both Legends, and the relationship between Six Fingers and KOTOS was a bit delicate. If it came to blows and Six Fingers took that dumb oaf’s side, it’d be a hassle to deal with.

And this place was too close to the school; the aftermath of a Legendary Wizard battle might not be enough to smash the school’s Protect Legal Formation, but even disturbing the flowers and plants in the Silent Forest wouldn’t be good.

She was quite fond of those Unicorns living in the woods.

Shi Hui didn’t like waiting, but right now, waiting seemed to be the common optimal solution among all available options—either wait for Six Fingers to talk himself hoarse and persuade KOTOS to leave; or wait for Old foolishness or some other Legend from the school to find the time to come over and help chase these two troublemakers away together.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help glancing back in another direction of Buji Island.

Red and black mottled patches intertwined with each other, and from behind the clouds came wave after wave of obscure yet violent Magic Power fluctuations—that was two Legends ’sparring’ with great restraint.

She really wanted to swap places with Emma and have a good, satisfying fight.

A trace of envy flashed through Shi Hui’s heart, but she knew it was nothing but wishful thinking. After all, Professor Emma hadn’t fully advanced to Legend; she could only borrow the Vice Principal’s rank on Buji Island to maintain Legendary Level power. Having her come out offshore to block two bona fide Legends would be putting her in a tight spot.

”—Hey, I’m talking!”

Withdrawing her gaze, Shi Hui noticed Six Fingers still babbling nonstop beside that dumb big guy. She finally lost patience, stepped forward, and said, ”You two, how about you go somewhere else to chat?”

Having listened this long, she more or less understood what was going on now—before the Battle of the Black Prison, the Multiple-Armed Giant KOTOS had been a member of the Dark Council, but after the Battle of the Black Prison, KOTOS seemed to be planning to leave the Dark Council, while Six Fingers, as Dark Councilor, was doing everything he could, pleading earnestly, to persuade that big guy not to quit.

Giants were common, but Legendary Giants were extremely rare.

What’s more, even before advancing, the Multi-armed Giant Kotos had already been famous throughout the Wizard World for his tyrannical combat strength—just from the feat in the Battle of the Black Prison where he single-handedly pried open the outer wall of the Black Prison and directly punched through a passage for the Demon Alliance Army into the Inner City, you could tell how terrifying this guy was.

For an existence of that level, no organization would ever let him go easily.

Yet no matter how sweetly Six Fingers talked or how much benefit he offered, that big guy with the blank face never said a word, just stared fixedly at Shi Hui. This left the Witch rather speechless. In her impression, although KOTOS had been a bit slow before his advancement, he hadn’t been this hard to deal with. She had no idea what sort of agreement he’d reached with Montelio that made him throw himself so zealously into the giant whirlpool of the First University.

”Just wait a little, just a little longer!”

The President of the Dark Council wore a fawning smile and bowed over and over: ”KOTOS is just having a moment of confusion, tricked by that bastard Montelio. Please allow me to talk things over with him a bit more.”

She didn’t know what keyword he had just triggered.

The Multiple-Armed Giant, who had remained silent from start to finish, finally shifted his gaze slightly away from the Witch and onto the Elder Wizard at his side, and asked in a muffled voice, ”—Do I look stupid to you?”

Is that even a question?

The Witch watching the show from not far away almost burst out laughing.

Six Fingers’ expression froze, clearly realizing he’d accidentally annoyed this big shot even more. His lips moved, just about to say something to patch it up, when KOTOS had already turned his eyes back to Shi Hui.

”I know you’re in a hurry, but don’t be in a hurry just yet.”

He looked at the Witch in the distance, his expression serious, as if unaware that what he’d said was pure nonsense: ”—There is no weird contract between Montelio and us. We’re merely a group of like-minded friends who want to make this murky World a bit clearer, so everyone can properly study Magic.”

It was a reason both naïve and not naïve.

Naïve because that ideal was the shared wish of many Wizards, yet hindered by conflicts among different interest groups, it was almost impossible to realize; and not naïve because the ones proposing this idea were a bunch of Legendary Wizards who happened to have the power to spread their vision.

If that sentence had only made Shi Hui a little more serious.

What KOTOS said next made her truly solemn.

”You think the one who’s trapping you here is me, but in truth, the thing really trapping you is Destiny.”

The wooden-looking bald giant quietly gazed at the Witch in the distance, speaking very slowly, yet every word carried tremendous weight: ”—Judging by the current situation, the Montelio turmoil should be the ’Catastrophe’ that comes with the founding of the Edge Academy. And it ought to be a Catastrophe your First University has deliberately fostered and tried to control the tempo of.”

The former Vice Principal of the First University narrowed her eyes slightly.

The President of the Dark Council showed a hint of surprise on his face.

Just as a Wizard’s advancement comes with Catastrophe, the founding of a new academy in a place like the First University is bound to trigger Destiny’s fluctuations and backlash, manifested outwardly as the fact that its establishment will not be smooth sailing.

”—I don’t doubt that the First University has the ability to control the tempo of this Catastrophe. But I equally believe in the power of Destiny. The Edge Academy can only rely on its own strength to weather this Catastrophe. So you Legends of the First University, whether willingly or not, are unable to directly step in and help the Edge Academy get through this disaster. And both we and you are unconsciously playing the role of Destiny’s pawns.”

At this point, KOTOS paused slightly, his gaze lifting to the sky: ”—The key to breaking the situation isn’t us, nor is it you; it can only be the Edge Academy itself. It must rely on its own strength... Yet as the saying goes, ’Touch one hair and the whole body moves.’ Anyone who tries to meddle with Destiny will suffer Destiny’s backlash. I can sense a trace of malice from Destiny descending upon you, something you never anticipated, coming from a game played at a much higher level.”

Shi Hui’s expression grew grave.

Sure enough, there isn’t a single fool among those who become Legends—or rather, even if some fool lucked into becoming a Legend, after being tempered by the long river of time and scouring the wisdom and experience of countless living beings, he could no longer remain a fool.

She pondered for a moment, about to say something more.

Suddenly her face changed dramatically, and she threw her head back to look up at the sky.

Over Buji Island, the sky that had originally been dominated by red and black suddenly gained a trace of silver-white. To the vast majority of Wizards under this sky, that sliver of silver-white was far too faint, too inconspicuous, but in the eyes of Legendary Wizards, that thin, almost undetectable silver thread looked like a gigantic hand that blotted out the sun, reaching down through the clouds to grasp the whole of Buji Island.
