High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2908: Chapter 1127: The Origin of the Name If Foolish

Blood and flesh.

These three words immediately reminded Zheng Qing of that dim conference room with seven ”devils,” and the commission the Seven Sins once received, causing him to roll his eyes in his mind — As he initially suspected, those commissions couldn’t be unrelated to the crow!

”...After paying a huge price, Thomas finally found a way to help me get some of your blood and flesh.”

The next words from Professor Montreya made the young wizard snort coldly — undoubtedly, the professor was referring to the time Thomas ”kidnapped” him — yet the professor seemed indifferent to the boy’s slight rudeness, maintaining his calm demeanor as he spoke slowly:

”The experimental results are delightful. It proves that your blood and flesh do indeed contain a very peculiar substance. No, you can’t describe it as ’substance.’ In a certain sense, I’d prefer to call it ’rule’... Your blood and flesh contain a rule that could be considered miraculous, capable of preventing the encroaching aura from crossing boundaries and stopping the collapse of flesh. Like a powerful external force suddenly intervening during a chaotic stampede at a gathering, restoring some order to the crowd...”

— Exactly! Order!

The young wizard roared inwardly, but his face showed no sign of it as he forced a somewhat insincere smile onto his sinister face, typical of type-edge, and carefully suggested, ”— If you need assistance, I could offer a little blood and flesh every month to support your frontier magic research, how about it? If you’re worried, we could sign the highest degree of restrictive contract!”

To express goodwill, he not only used the respectful form ”you” again but also awkwardly referred to the illegal bloodline modification experiments of the crows as ”frontier magic.”

Unfortunately, Professor Montreya did not accept his goodwill.

”You can’t help me.”

The voice echoing above the altar seemed to drift, as if the speaker was shaking his head: ”In fact, I concocted more than one dose of inhibitor from the blood and flesh Thomas brought back. But only the first dose worked best, delaying the decay of my flesh for a whole week, yet immediately afterwards, the second dose was less effective, maintaining for only six days; then the third, the fourth, the speed of inhibitor failure accelerated—what can be confirmed is that the ’rule’ substance in the inhibitor did not diminish over time—from a pharmacological perspective, small doses at high frequency actually increased the resistance of my collapsing tissues to the inhibitor.

According to the number of samples Thomas obtained, based on laboratory estimates, to fully alleviate the collapse of my body, I’d probably need to consume your entire person to satisfy the cravings of my dying flesh. But we both know that’s impossible. So, very regrettably, you can’t help me.”

Zheng Qing was not surprised by the professor’s refusal.

He originally did not hold much hope for this proposal.

However, upon hearing that the experimental lab of the crows really calculated the amount of blood and flesh needed to curb the trend of the professor’s body decay, the young wizard couldn’t help but curse quietly in his heart.

Indeed, one should fathom those lunatics with the worst malice!

”— What about the school? Doesn’t the school know?”

He carelessly interrupted the professor again. Although his question was somewhat vague, it didn’t prevent Professor Montreya from easily grasping the point he wanted to express.

”School?”

When the mechanical voice above the altar recited these two words in a questioning tone, Zheng Qing seemed to see Professor Montreya standing before him, glaring with those green-grey eyes, his mouth slightly twisted into a sarcastic smile.

”—The school has long been on guard against me.” He offered a startling answer: ”Remember the emergency assembly order the school suddenly issued to you early last weekend?”

Though it’s just a simple hint.

Zheng Qing immediately recalled that peculiar night—the young wizards of dorm 403 were originally marveling at finally spending a peaceful weekend, only for their door to be knocked on in the early hours by the dorm leader, Zhang Yu escorting Zheng Qing directly to the Giant God Soldier laboratory.

He remembered clearly that day Zhang Yu specifically requested him to wear a mask.

Entering the resonance room, after setting up type-edge, the group lingered in the hall for a long time before receiving a vague task from Professor Ruoyu—to patrol the Silent Forest.

At that time, the aimless search led Zheng Qing to assume the school had casually found a pretext for a late-night emergency exercise to test type-edge.

”—That night, my condition worsened again. To avoid unnecessary impact, I quietly left the school and went to a private laboratory to retreat. However, in the process, I accidentally ’shook off’ several teams the school used to monitor me. This made some people at the school nervous, not only immediately sending you into the Giant God Soldier laboratory but also dispatching multiple hunting teams to destroy several labs they had long known about... I think this counts as a warning to some degree.”

Zheng Qing was silent.

Since the school sent people to monitor Professor Montreya, they must know his identity. Knowing yet not dealing with it is very infuriating.

Meanwhile, he also remembered a statement made by Korma to him that evening—currently, First University offers no location safer than the Giant God Soldier project team station—the school, knowing someone would pose a threat to him and yet not dealing with it, displaying a completely schizophrenic behavior pattern.

That night, the large search in the Silent Forest lasted seven to eight hours. Zheng Qing and his group gained nothing, only to suddenly receive the task termination notice before classes began.

Arriving was inexplicable.

Returning was also inexplicable.

Reflecting now, he felt more assured internally.

”So, did you return to school the next morning?” The boy asked using a question, though his tone was assertive.

Professor Montreya chuckled softly.

”I always thought you were smart, just too well protected, so sometimes you seem a bit dim.”

He said this with exceptional earnestness, causing Zheng Qing to be unsure whether he was being complimented or insulted: ”—Speaking of ’dim,’ I’m reminded of a phrase I once heard: the opposite of faith is not doubt, but fear. Similarly, the opposite of talent is not foolishness, but mediocrity. People can tolerate others’ foolishness, but find it hard to accept their own mediocrity—If Foolish (looking foolish) was born based on this. Actually, I think you suit this name well.”
