High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2927: Chapter 1146: Montelio’s Objective

Red lightning shuttles between the black clouds, while black lightning rolls among the red clouds.

The entire world is shrouded in red and black.

Montelio and Professor Emma’s true forms have already entered higher dimensions, showing only a fragment of their clash in this world. Even so, the legendary aura that spills out still makes most creatures in the Silent Forest tremble.

Thunder rumbles constantly, clearly reaching everyone’s ears, sending a tingle through everyone’s heart. Most wizards are not capable of seeing that legendary battle, but they can see the image of red and black entangled, so many gaze upwards, trying to guess what’s happening higher up.

When a red cloud is tainted black, it immediately causes many to feel uneasy.

When a black veil is torn by red lines, it immediately brings cheers.

First University.

At the topmost terrace of the Astronomical Tower.

Professor Yi clutches a set of divination tokens, sitting cross-legged at the edge of the terrace. Scattered around him are various divination tools—burnt turtle shells, pitch-black dragon bones, dust-covered crystal balls, broken copper coins, and more—as cheers from a few young assistants echo from below, the leader of the First University’s Divination Group frowns, seemingly oblivious.

He doesn’t even look up at the sky.

Whoosh!

A pea-sized green flame suddenly appears beside him, growing rapidly in the wind. In the blink of an eye, it swells to the height of a person, with tongues of fire outlining the shape of a door. The scorching flame seems to burn the air through, revealing the icy blackness beyond the door.

Old Verne, holding his long magic wand, steps across the threshold onto the terrace.

”Good evening, Tilda.”

The old janitor brushes the ash from his gray robes and nods to another guest behind Professor Yi, who is Tilda Strange, the acting president of Alpha Academy.

”Good evening.” The witch nods slightly, her expression stern, and promptly shifts her gaze to the divination tokens in front of Professor Yi, evidently not in the mood for small talk.

The old man pays it no mind and turns to look at the master of the Astronomical Tower.

”—It’s settled down now.”

He speaks gruffly to the leader of the Divination Group: ”The school’s relocation has temporarily reached a halt, with only a few corridors lost, extending into an ancient abandoned temple from who knows when. The other parts are intact... just a bit more compact than before, and the water from Lin Zhong Lake overflowed, flooding the small plaza in front of the Book Mountain Library.”

The other two listen absentmindedly, seemingly uninterested in this rare ’school runaway’ incident in hundreds of years.

Old Verne wisely ends his soliloquy, glancing over turtle shells and copper coins with a hint of curiosity: ”Is there anything else worth calculating? The monsters Montelio temporarily corrupted, while formidable, lack intelligence and only charge about on instinct, easily suppressed by the professors... President Sun and the others had no chance to take action, just now complaining they shouldn’t have borrowed those Type One Edge...”

”Mobilizing the Type One Edge was Mr. Ruo Yu’s idea.”

Professor Yi finally speaks, though his eyes remain on the divination tokens in his hands, his voice tinged with weariness: ”The Edge Academy is about to be established and needs to demonstrate her power through the Type One Edge. As for what I’m calculating now...”

He pauses, seemingly choosing his words carefully.

”—It’s Montelio’s purpose.” The witch beside him speaks directly, concisely summarizing the dilemma troubling the Divination Group leader at the moment: ”He avoided the school’s hunt, successfully seized the ’Primordial,’ and had more than one ally to assist. Theoretically, he could escape without any difficulty now...”

”...Yet he returned.” Old Verne squints, nodding thoughtfully: ”Not only did he return, but he also caused such a commotion above, as if fearing the school would not step in to suppress him...”

Crack!

A stalk of Cao Herb breaks between Professor Yi’s fingers.

”Suppression.”

A look of realization crosses his face, and in a low voice, he mutters this word, tossing away the broken grass sticks, swiftly sketching on the bluestone slab with his fingertips. Runes spread outwards like a gradually unfolding web, and soon, the nodes intertwining with runes start exploding one after another, carving deep cracks into the hard bluestone slab.

Professor Yi is not angry; instead, a faint smile appears on his face.

But immediately, that smile becomes a bitter one.

”—Born from death.”

He lets out a deep sigh, looking up at the sky where red and black intertwine. Before the two onlookers could question him, he announces his conclusion: ”Montelio is rallying potential allies.”

Old Verne furrows his brows tightly.

He cannot see the connection between ’suppression,’ ’born from death,’ and ’rallying allies.’

”Allies? Whose allies? The school’s?”

Tilda’s tone carries a trace of doubt: ”Even though he is an old professor of the school and has taught many students, and I also believe there are still many of his followers in the school—those who are called ’Ravens’—if you’re suggesting these people could become his allies, prompting him to take the risk of being suppressed by the school to visit, it lacks any persuasive power.”

The old janitor nods in agreement.

But the diviner sitting on the ground lets out a soft ’heh’: ”You yourself said it, taking the risk of being suppressed by the school... That’s the problem. Does the school currently have the power to easily suppress a legend? Even if he advanced through unconventional ways.”

Some things need not be said explicitly.

With just a subtle indication, the expressions of the two school executives change immediately.

Indeed, they had just been rejoicing that the school suffered no harm in this sudden legendary attack, yet they subconsciously ignored the negative impact of this harassment.

”From the old world to the new world, countless eyes inside and outside the Alliance are watching here.” Professor Yi looks up, gazing at the red and black sky, his tone calm: ”—Even the First University can hardly bear the loss of a legend. In other words, it’s a matter of losing face, threatening the core interests. Montelio intends to use this ’return performance’ to demonstrate the First University’s weakness, drawing the attention of those lurking and restless forces onto First University... making it impossible for the school to devote all its energy to pursue him.”

”President won’t allow such a thing to happen!” Tilda says in a low voice.

”Yes, the president won’t allow it.” A peculiar and profound expression appears on Professor Yi’s face: ”—The question is, how long has it been since we’ve truly seen the president?”
