High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2922: Chapter 1141: Grab-and-Go Escape

”——Fat Man, what’s going on? Why are we gathering in the First Hall in the middle of the night? Could it be that some big demon sneaked into the First University?”

At the gathering point for Astronomy Class 08-1, Duan Xiao Jian wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes, yawned exaggeratedly, and grumbled about the school’s sudden notice while leaning towards Xin Fat Man.

As a senior editor of the campus newspaper, Xin’s informant abilities were well-known in the class.

Just tonight, he was destined to be disappointed.

Xin Fat Man seemed to know no more than the others, looking around with the same bewildered expression.

”Big demon? What big demon would sneak into the school before the final exams?” he muttered, deftly sending off a few paper cranes while receiving some: ”——Didn’t you ask Matthew? He has wild connections over at Alpha, maybe he knows something.”

The skinny warlock nodded repeatedly and started glancing around, trying to find Matthew.

Zhang Ji Xin, standing aside, snorted disdainfully: ”Like Matthew would find out anything! Even my brother doesn’t know why there’s this emergency gathering tonight... but he guesses something serious must have happened.”

What a completely obvious statement.

The fat wizard had to try hard to hold back his urge to mock.

He didn’t mock.

The red-faced male wizard started to let loose instead, changing the topic to critique the fat wizard’s earlier speculation: ”——Anyway, if some big demon really did disrupt the school’s final exams, I would definitely dedicate a longevity plaque to it and light incense every month!”

This weekend, the first round of final exams was about to begin, and students of Jiuyou Academy were all anxious.

”Worshipping demons? How could you even come up with that?”

A cold voice unexpectedly sounded behind them, startling them: ”——If you fail the finals, at most you’ll be put in detention or face regular punishments; however, if you’re caught privately worshipping demons, the consequences won’t just be breaking a few legs if your family finds out.”

Zhang Ji Xin’s usual deep-red face suddenly turned greyish as he sharply turned his head to see Jiang Yu was the one speaking, and he let out a heavy sigh of relief.

”Mr. Zha isn’t here.” He forced a laugh, preemptively answering Jiang Yu’s question before adding: ”And we don’t know where his Black Gem Cat has gone off to...”

”You say stuff about me behind my back like that?” A tiny black cat, no larger than a fist, emerged from the witch’s hood, perching on her shoulder, glaring fiercely at Zhang Ji Xin: ”——Going out for no reason... I always have tasks whenever I leave! Recently, I’ve been attending classes twice, no, ten times more than him!”

Jiang Yu reached out a finger and flicked it back into the hood, silencing its chatter.

Then she looked at Xiao Xiao.

Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses and answered honestly: ”Before going to bed, the teaching assistants took Brother Qing away, saying it was that special project at the Edge Academy... and he hasn’t come back since. I just confirmed with Professor An from the office, it is indeed a school project, but due to its high classification, we can’t gather any further information.”

”The reason for tonight’s gathering?” Jiang Yu frowned and switched to another question.

Xiao Xiao shook his head: ”I don’t know. I tried divining it, but there were only two results, either complete chaos where nothing was clear, or a very clear, obviously fake ’all is well’...”

”Could it be that the school is holding some ’Dragon Boat Festival’ kind of ritual at the last minute?” Xin Fat Man suddenly interjected, his mind racing: ”——If I remember correctly, today is Dragon Boat Festival, right!”

”To be precise, yesterday was Dragon Boat Festival.”

Xiao Xiao shook his head slightly, pointing to the fat wizard’s watch: ”It’s already past midnight, it makes no sense to hold a ritual for yesterday’s festival, and I’ve never heard of a ritual taking place in the middle of the night...”

”Silence!”

From the balcony of the hall above, a young, loud voice called out: ”Everyone, please remain quiet! Class advisors and monitors, please take attendance for your respective classes and immediately report any absences! Students already in the First Hall, please maintain order, refrain from running, playing, or making noise... we will provide further explanations shortly.”

Perhaps the voice was too young.

Lacking sufficient authority.

No sooner were the words out of his mouth than a questioning voice immediately rang out from somewhere on the third floor of the hall: ”So what exactly is going on? Where are the professors? Why aren’t any of them here?”

It was then that many young wizards noticed that those maintaining order at the scene were mostly teaching assistants and lecturers, along with some people dressed in gray robes. Not a single senior professor from the school was in sight.

This discovery immediately fueled further speculation among more people.

Just then.

A series of muffled sounds suddenly echoed from outside the First Hall.

Rumble!

As if countless boulders were rolling down a hillside or the sound of massive mountains cracking, the entire hall began shaking violently, the thick columns at the hall’s edge creaked under the pressure, and many portraits hanging in the corridors on the second floor simultaneously vanished from their frames, leaving no trace.

Screams and cries rang out one after another.

”What’s happening?”

”Is it an earthquake? I mean, is it the Earth Dragon turning over?”

”What kind of Earth Dragon could possibly shake the First Hall? A Legendary Level Earth Dragon? Does the wizard world have such a creature?”

”It might not necessarily be an Earth Dragon turning over, maybe an ancient dragon slumbering beneath a volcano has awakened! My grandmother said there’s an ancient dragon that’s lived for tens of thousands of years in the volcano deep within the Silent Forest!”

”Why do you all guess underground? Could it be that a meteorite has fallen!”

”Who would dare throw a stone at the First University?”

The entire hall was filled with noisy chatter as young wizards babbled, exchanging their respective speculations, showing no signs of fear or panic on their faces, rather each one appeared more excited than the next, just a step away from cracking open two bottles of Green Bee, grabbing a plate of fried peanuts, and sitting on stools watching the spectacle.

Xiao Xiao did not join in the discussions but instead leaned towards the outer railing and observed closely those somewhat slender figures on the balcony above—one could see several young wizards in different robe colors whispering and arguing intensely.

Soon, the result of the debate came.

”Silence!”

”Everyone, please be quiet!”

This time it was a witch speaking, she was without any pretense, clearly and crisply conveying to everyone: ”We just received notice from the School Works Committee, for risk-avoidance considerations, the First University will undergo a short-term relocation, which may cause some noise or vibration, all of which are normal phenomena, so please remain calm!”

Xin Fat Man stared with his small eyes, perplexedly looking at Xiao Xiao.

”——Short-term relocation? What does that mean?”

”It’s exactly as it says,” the diviner of Absolution replied calmly: ”Simply put, it’s like ’the First University’ senses danger, so it grabbed its belongings and made a run for it...”
