High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2905: Chapter 1124: Hidden Motives

For the legendary wizard who interfered in this matter, Professor Montreya didn’t seem to have any intention of further explanation, instead, he shifted gears to praise his former colleague:

”—Korma, Miss Colma, I must admit, she’s truly formidable. Having only advanced to great wizard status a bit over a year ago, her real body refine is comparable to those senior wizards who’ve been around for decades, even hundreds of years. If not for having a backup plan, I fear it would have been me to first have my real body damaged.”

Zheng Qing wasn’t surprised about Colma’s high refinement level.

Before Christmas last year, when he and Su Shijun visited the gentleman with Poseidon, this North District Grand-Wizard inserted herself into the mix, joining the festivities, likely gaining some benefits from the gentleman. However, she’s always remained tight-lipped about it, and Zheng Qing felt it wasn’t proper to pursue the matter.

But it did strike Zheng Qing as odd that Professor Montreya, after advancing to great wizard, performed worse than Colma.

If he truly was that biggest crow, it made no sense that during winter break, the black wizard Walter deployed to block the gun already had top-tier great wizard combat power upon advancing, while the highest leader of the crows remained so weak.

The young wizard asked without hesitation, ”Why is Walter so strong? Back then he could hold his own against three, simultaneously confronting Professor Simon, Lady Margaret, and Director Qian Jiuzhou without losing ground.”

Professor Simon is the vice principal of Starry Sky Academy, with his real form being a Fire Dragon.

Lady Margaret is the vice principal of Atlas, with her real form being an angel.

Qian Jiuzhou is a deputy director of the School Works Committee, with his real form being a centipede.

All three are of great wizard level, and left a deep impression on Zheng Qing during the winter break campaign against the black wizard.

The voice echoing above the altar hesitated for a few seconds before finally answering seriously, ”On one hand, the organization provided him with ample precious materials for refining his real form, and on another hand, he belongs to an experimental subject, where a very important test aspect is ’ultimate load’... a bit like the resonance degree we assess when operating the Giant God Soldier, what he tests is the effect at one hundred percent, or two hundred percent resonance... It’s necessary to operate beyond safe limits to understand the body’s capabilities, only through overload operation can we discover its limit, or our limit.”

Truly no subtlety at all.

Talking about discarding after use so nonchalantly.

Reflecting on it, to easily abandon a top-tier potential great wizard, giving up on top-tier wizard combat power for some data, Zheng Qing felt these crows’ terrifying nature exceeded his expectations.

”So, for performing experiments, or for your grand and noble goal, can you abandon anyone?” The young wizard asked with a hint of lament in his tone, as familiar yet unfamiliar faces like Gan Ning and Thomas flashed through his mind, compounding his complex emotions.

The witch in the center of the altar silently watched him.

”Another synonym for abandon is sacrifice. If I describe some of the organization’s choices with ’sacrifice’, would that make you feel more comfortable?”

The mechanical voice resonating in the cave carried a slight mocking tone: ”—Apart from our stance, what fundamental difference do our laboratory and the school’s Giant God Soldier project have? Both sacrifice some individual’s benefits for more public interest... From a certain viewpoint, the school’s approach is even worse. Do you know why the Alliance approved the Giant God Soldier project in the end? Because ’Edge Type One’ can consume the number of fringe wizards. Using their lives as fuel to release magic beyond their capabilities, on one hand giving fringe individuals an illusory hope, making them think they have a future; on the other hand, by consuming radicals within the fringe group, it reduces instability within the Alliance; Additionally, through batches of Edge Type One, it strengthens the school’s power and increases the number of middle and high-level wizards within the Alliance... one fish, multiple eats, a multitude of benefits for all involved in the project, except for those destined to expend their lives as ’sacrificed’, all parties are winners!”

He was extremely sarcastic and ridiculing.

Yet, perhaps due to that mechanical, rigid voice, or because of the usual seriousness, his criticism seemed unusually calm and lacked persuasive power.

In the Stone Cave Square, the two fell silent simultaneously.

Both had a mind full of thoughts, seemingly savoring the ’impassioned’ speech that just transpired, but in reality, no one cared about what the screeching content echoed in the cave was.

Professor Montreya’s reason for digressing so much was to buy time for him to completely grasp ’Primordial’, fearing that Zheng Qing shedding ’Edge Type One’ early would invite school interference—including the witch on the altar not taking any extra actions was to avoid drawing outside attention to anomalies within the cave.

Theoretically, when ’she’ stands on the altar, donning the battle dress, everything she does on the altar—whether scratching her nose, picking her ear, or accidentally sneezing—will be accurately reflected to the outside world, manifesting as ’Primordial’s’ every move, every word and action.

It’s just she underestimated her own tactics and overestimated Zheng Qing’s ’element of surprise’, unaware those blood-red vines had already restricted the boy’s ability to voluntarily disengage.

Unlike Professor Montreya.

At this moment, Zheng Qing was using the rare silent chance to fully concentrate on visualizing his Charm Gun, hoping to visualize his Colt Python sooner, to sooner break through that annoying red light membrane outside, and return to the resonance chamber to inform Elder Ruoyu about everything happening in the cave.

The silence lasted for a moment.

Both were worried the other would notice their inner thoughts, unwittingly spoke up again.

”I previously...”

”You previously...”

The suspended Edge Type snapped its mouth, looking quite innocently at the ’witch’ below, Professor Montreya made no extra movements, just let the mechanical voice above the altar resound again:

”What do you wish to ask?”

This tone was like a kind professor asking questions in class.

Zheng Qing felt a weird sensation flash in his mind, he coughed, ”—Um, I wanted to ask, you just mentioned the Giant God Soldier project has been reviewed by the Alliance... As far as I know, the Alliance’s review time is usually calculated annually, yet the Giant God Soldier project is only about half a year old, is the review speed so fast?”

”Who told you the Giant God Soldier project started only half a year ago? If correct, this project has been ongoing for decades... It’s just initially the submitted project name wasn’t ’Giant God Soldier’, but ’Man-made God Plan’.”
