Chapter 1499: Chapter 243 Control Illusion

People always overestimate their control over situations and overlook the impact of uncontrollable factors such as chance and luck, but in reality, a significant factor in determining success or failure lies within chance or luck.

This bias in judgment is known in psychology as the ’Control Illusion’.

At this moment, Nikita was experiencing this illusion.

She mistakenly thought she had controlled the situation, assuming that her skills as a top registered witch could easily overpower the young hunters before her.

But reality dealt her a harsh blow.

A truly harsh blow.

Enveloped in a tinge of blood, a Fu Bullet fell on the Nine-fold True Word Protection Barrier she had summoned, effortlessly piercing through layer after layer of the barrier, as if someone was poking a soap bubble with a needle tip.

On the semi-transparent golden barrier, one smooth, continuous bullet hole after another appeared.

Each time a bullet hole appeared, the mountain-like, translucent amber-like barrier looked like a train at full speed colliding with a piece of glass, shattering it thunderously.

Fine amber-colored light points fell from mid-air like droplets, whirling around, casting an enchanting, dreamlike hue over the dim tavern.

Nine-fold Barrier.

Nine Mountain Ranges.

Nine showers of glittering light rain.

These only slightly slowed down the hurtling Fu Bullet, causing the blood tint enveloping it to fade a bit.

The Female Demon’s fingers trembled slightly, and several pale bone fragments flew out from between her fingers, heading towards the Fu Bullet. These bone fragments were secretly kept from the kitchen of the Mist Ship, while she was boiling soup for the captain. They were reportedly fragments of a Big Wizard’s ribs, but in that kitchen, they were just a few bones among a pile of not-so-fresh meat.

Besides being very hard and difficult to cook, these bones had nothing special about them.

There were no mysterious magic runes on the bones, nor any desirable magical substances inside them. If not for the need of some bone powder to prepare specific potions effective against Witch Demons, Nikita would not have risked taking these under-cooked bones from the captain’s soup bowl.

At this point, the hardest thing she could think of were these bone fragments.

The ghastly white bone fragments silently glided through mid-air, like several flying Tarot Cards, colliding head-on with the swiftly approaching Fu Bullet. The sharp edges of the bone fragments sliced into the sharp bullet head, and time seemed to pause for a moment.

In the tavern, everyone witnessed that moment.

——Looks like there’s no need to consider how to grind them into bone powder.

This thought suddenly flashed through Nikita’s mind.

As the bone fragments and the Fu Bullet collided, grey-white bone powder scattered liberally, drifting down. The blood energy wrapped around the Fu Bullet grew dimmer and its speed slowed even further.

The Female Demon shook off the black bracelet on her wrist.

”Damn it!” Zhang Ji Xin could only utter a curse under his breath, and Furry Bean gave him a displeased glance.

Zheng Qing’s face was pale, leaning on a dining table, barely keeping his eyes open, watching the bracelet fall to the ground—his current Charm Gun was conjured directly from his mind, so the feedback usually absorbed by the Charm Gun when firing Blood Symbol Bullets was now borne by his consciousness.

Even though the blood essence and runes came from his own hand, the powerful ’recoil’ of the Blood Symbol Bullet still almost knocked the warlock unconscious.

The black bracelet on the female demon’s fair wrist hesitated for half a second in mid-air, then stretched out and turned into a black snake as thick as chopsticks.

As the snake faced the sky full of light rain and a flurry of bone dust, it swelled with the wind, thickening from chopstick-size to the size of a bucket, and when it hit the ground, it made a thunderous noise that shook the whole tavern.

Even after landing, its thick body continued to grow, quickly filling nearly half of the tavern’s main hall.

The black scales flickered with a gloomy sheen, and between the pale fangs, it breathed an aura that corroded bones.

But what caught the most attention were the three heads it held high.

This was a Three-headed Black Flood Dragon.

Roar!!!

The Black Flood Dragon roared, its left head lowering, with the short but tough dragon horns fiercely colliding with the slow-moving Fu Bullet. The Blood Symbol Bullet hit resolutely but slowly onto the dragon’s horn.

Crack.

The dragon horn shattered, glowing green blood mixed with the painful roars of the Black Flood Dragon, splattering all around. But after several consecutive snipes, the Blood Symbol Bullet also finally drained its blood essence and stuck between the dragon’s skull, halting its progress.

Zhuzhu, who had been squatting on the chair all this time, let out a deep sigh of relief, her legs went soft, collapsing onto the chair.

Nikita’s face was pale as she looked towards the few young wizards.

”Brilliant resistance.”

Standing amidst the coiled body of the Black Flood Dragon, she raised her hand and soothingly patted the thick scales, her voice as calm and confident as before, ”A year ago, you would shiver under my gaze, a year later, you can put up a decent fight... I always like to invest in targets with potential for growth.”

”What do you think, my previous proposition is still valid... I hope you make the final choice before this little guy goes berserk.”

The ’little guy’ Nikita referred to wasn’t little at all; it was that huge Three-headed Black Flood Dragon.

At this moment, the Black Flood Dragon, which had nearly had its head blown off by the Fu Bullet, dragged its blood-drenched left head, a ferocious expression as it eyed several tempting blood meals in the room.

The injured head eyed the Blue Fatty, who was the fattest; the right head gazed at Zhang Ji Xin, who was the chewiest; while the largest head in the middle dead set its sights on Zheng Qing, displaying a ferocious and greedy smile—the weakest and least resistant among them all was Zheng Qing.

Jiang Yu stood beside the warlock, clutching several green jade stones, her lips slightly white from tension.

Zheng Qing’s gaze wandered between the Black Flood Dragon and the female demon, weighing the difference in combat strength between the two. Nikita was naturally a top-tier Registered Wizard, a fact confirmed by the Mage Alliance; the Faceless Demon, while slightly inferior, wasn’t far behind; and that most ferocious-looking Black Flood Dragon, Zheng Qing strongly suspected that it was nearing the level of a Big Wizard.

Under complete combat capability, facing Nikita alone, the Absolution Hunting Team might have a chance to win.

But now, with nearly half his strength drained due to that Fu Bullet, and both Zhang Ji Xin and Xin Fat Man almost vomiting blood from Nikita’s recent punch, and with the addition of a powerful Three-headed Black Flood Dragon on the enemy’s side.

With this increase and decrease, continuing with a hard-hitting battle plan was clearly inappropriate.

He took a deep breath, slightly turned his head, and glanced at Xiao Xiao.

Xiao Xiao nodded imperceptibly, giving him a subtle hand gesture.
