High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1459: Chapter 203: The Lost is the Best

Because Zheng Qing’s finger wound healed, the source of aura attracting many exhibits disappeared, so subsequently the young wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team didn’t experience what they had in the previous exhibition halls.

But the situation only improved slightly.

The museum exhibits, stimulated by that whiff of blood, became somewhat temperamental. Even though they wouldn’t deliberately cause trouble for the passing wizards, they wouldn’t let them pass easily either.

”Knowing this, Doctor, you should have prepared more turtle shells.”

Zheng Qing agilely dodged a rope aimed at his neck and still had the energy to turn back and make a suggestion to Xiao Xiao: ”...Using turtle shells to build a defensive formation would save a lot of energy.”

Xiao Xiao rolled his eyes, adjusted his glasses, and ignored his team leader.

Jiang Yu carefully tugged on Zheng Qing’s sleeve: ”Be careful... there’s more than one rope on that burning frame!”

She was referring to the rope that had just tried to loop around Zheng Qing’s neck, originating from an ancient burning frame situated to the side of Absolution Hunting Team’s path. Three wooden posts stood among the pile of kindling, bound with oil-soaked hemp ropes, with the most central post binding a wizard whose face bore a fake and exaggerated smile.

”Let’s burn together!” the condemned wizard shouted to the passersby, ”We can achieve eternal life amidst the fierce flames and cries!”

While speaking, from the two posts next to him, another oil-soaked hemp rope each sprung out like two venomous snakes attacking the young wizards.

”Nuisance!”

Zhang Ji Xin, irascible, swung his fist violently, fiercely smashing the two hemp ropes.

’Bang’ sound.

As if metal clashed with stone, like a hammer falling on rock. The ropes wrapped in magic power were heavily smashed by the fists, bouncing momentarily but were then hammered down again, and like dead snakes, they lay limp on the floor, unwilling to move again.

”Merlin Above,” the wizard on the burning frame struggled as the kindling beneath him suddenly burst into fierce flames, his voice became sharp amid the firelight: ”... you barbarians, what are you doing? You are devils! You’ll go to Hell after death!”

”Sorry, my old man is quite friendly with Mephisto, I could even get in while I’m alive,” Xiao Xiao said expressionlessly, walking past the burning blaze, calmly answering.

Zheng Qing touched his smooth chin, unsure if Doctor’s remark was factual, or just a cold joke.

Just as he was distracted, a sudden strong force gripped his arm, pulling him sideways and almost making him fall onto the floor.

Before he could steady himself, a ’whoosh’ sound passed by his ear, a heavy shadow swept past, landing heavily on a buffalo that had been following behind the hunting team.

The buffalo didn’t utter a sound, its head smashed to pieces and slumped to the ground. Several long javelins that were already lodged in it slid across the floor with its fall, producing a brief and piercing noise.

Zheng Qing gasped in shock, looking in the direction from which the shadow had come.

It was the discus thrower.

The strong man tilted his head, looked at the missed discus, his lips moved slightly as if saying something, then he bent down again, body twisted to the right, leaning forward in a bow-like shape, his weight on his right foot, left arm meeting his right knee, right hand holding the discus turning to the rear, quickly completing the gathering of strength.

Like a tightly wound spring, and as a fully drawn bow.

Phew!

The spring sprang up, the bow shot out, and the second iron disc followed the man’s succinct and powerful movement, smashing heavily towards the young wizards. This time, his target was Xin Fat Man.

That’s the person who just gave Zheng Qing a hand.

A bluish hue spread across the Fat Man’s face, yet he made no move to dodge the dark shadow that sped towards his face. It seemed he wanted to test whose skin was tougher, his or the iron disc’s.

Fortunately, the Hunting team had a slightly more reliable main Hunter, who interrupted the Auxiliary Hunter’s risky behavior.

Bang!

Zhang Ji Xin swung his fist again, smashing the iron disc down onto the floor. Sparks of brilliance burst forth under the collision of magic power and speed.

”Don’t conduct pointless experiments! You are wasting valuable magic power!” the main Hunter glared at Fat Man and then looked around, urging, ”Speed up, we’ve wasted slightly too much time along the way... Do you still have Armor Horse Charms?”

The last question was directed at Zheng Qing.

Without hesitation, Zheng Qing pulled out a stack of Armor Horse Charms from his gray fabric bag. His companions each tied them to their calves with a Red String. However, Xin Fat Man had four Armor Horse Charms tied to his legs while others had only two.

With the aid of the Armor Horse Charms, the Hunting team’s speed of advance suddenly increased significantly.

Although they encountered many troubles along the way—like Big Wei, who took pebbles from his backpack and threw them wildly; a certain knotted revolver that straightened its barrel and started firing at them; the ’ape-man’ on display screaming and throwing flying knives and javelins everywhere; Minos’ Venus stumbling and pleading for the young wizards to craft her a new pair of arms.

Xin Fat Man actually wanted to do the latter.

Zheng Qing suspected that the Fat Man was merely unable to take his eyes off the beautiful Witch. Indeed, when Venus pleaded, he also stealthily spied on the legendary goddess of love, fervently praying in his heart that the drape tied around Venus’ waist might silently slip to the ground.

However, as a gentleman, and with another Witch paying attention nearby, the young government-funded student could only restrain his restless heart, and righteously reprimanded Fat Man a few sentences.

But complaining couldn’t defeat beauty.

What ultimately overcame beauty, were Xiao Xiao’s words of wisdom.

”You are not able to fulfill her requests,” Doctor Xiao stood behind a gleaming-eyed Banna, signalling Zheng Qing to hang a few Clear Heart Symbols on him and explained, ”Every year, many students, teachers, and even big figures from the wizard world visit the museum. Many have tried to craft new arms for Venus... However, no matter how precious the materials or beautiful the designs, they can only stay on her body for a day.”

”Why?” With the help of the Clear Heart Symbols, Xin Fat Man finally regained some sense.

”Because at night, when Venus awakens, she angrily rips off her new arms,” Xiao Xiao turned his head and continued walking deeper into the museum.

”Why?” This one was Zhang Ji Xin’s question, as he also became curious about Venus’ choices.

”Because those are not her own arms,” Xiao Xiao softly replied:

”In this world, what you gain, no matter how precious, is never precious enough. What you lose is what’s most precious...and the best. Unforgettable, is an endless greed.”
