High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1457: Chapter 201 Inside and Outside the Pavilion

On the first-day special flight to school, a Female Demon once leaned close to Zheng Qing’s ear, her eyes glinting deliriously as she sniffed his scent, telling him, ”You smell so good.”

Then came last year’s Moon Hunting, where the Hunting team led captured Wild Demons into the venue, and a breeze brushed past Zheng Qing from behind, settling on the wide lawn, causing the bound Wild Demons to suddenly erupt into violence.

After that, just before the start of this year, during the season when the Silent Black Tide surged, the Absolution Hunting Team was temporarily hired to participate in Beta Town’s defense operations. Zheng Qing was injured, the beast tide changed its course, bursting through the defenses of Beta Town.

If Su Shijun hadn’t arrived in time to take control of the situation, Zheng Qing didn’t dare imagine how many children, like Lin Guo, would have lost their parents that day in Beta Town.

Originally, he thought all these incidents were isolated.

Until his teacher told him that he was a forbidden spell, that deep within his Soul, there was a just sprouting Forbidden Curse Seed. Thus, everything became clear.

Just like the scene before him now, as Zheng Qing touched the tiny wound on his finger and felt the pain coming from his fingertips, his initially chaotic thoughts, chased by the fossilized skeletons, cleared away the Fog, becoming lucid.

The young cost student felt his mouth a bit dry.

And a little bitter.

His sluggish consciousness finally sparked the reason for the skeletons’ madness in his mind.

Pinching his injured finger, his face turned pale, he looked towards his companions. The others also quickly noticed Zheng Qing’s odd reaction and inquired with their eyes.

”I think,” Zheng Qing’s voice was somewhat weak and hoarse: ”We should prepare for the worst...”

The weakness in his voice was partly due to the realization of the reason behind the skeletons’ craziness, a lack of confidence; and partly because a similar sound of the rolling skeletons could be heard in the new exhibit hall, like that in the previous hall.

The majority of the exhibits in the third hall are made of bronze and jade Magic Artifacts, showcasing the various achievements of ancient Wizards in Starry Sky Divination, concocting Magic Potions, and drawing Magic Circles.

In the area closest to the entrance of the exhibition hall, there is a simple Bronze Cauldron placed, with three legs and two ears, its body round and full; even through the museum’s protective Barrier, the young Wizards could still feel the ancient aura emanating from the cauldron.

Following the cauldron further back, there are single-footed pottery jars, secret-color porcelain dishes, green glazed vases, cloud-patterned pottery bells, jade seals, bronze mirrors, and various other ritual and musical instruments.

However, in the deepest part of the exhibition hall, invisible to the young Wizards, many non-standard shaped vessels are displayed.

So-called non-standard shapes refer to Magical Constructs that do not have the shape of regular bottles, urns, bells, cauldrons, crucibles, seals, mirrors, etc., yet possess similar functionality.

For instance, the Bronze Bull Zun, outwardly a small bronze calf, its belly and feet decorated with clouds and Kui dragon patterns, yet hollow inside capable of holding an endless amount of liquor. At the back, a lid with a knob sculpted in the shape of an erect walking skinny tiger. When Wizards host a banquet, this bull can stroll among the banquet tables, and whenever it encounters an empty cup or cold dish, it will open its mouth to emit a stream of clear liquor.

Another example is the Red Gold Dragon, a magical artifact used during consecration ceremonies, with a long snout and slender neck, a pair of curved horns atop its head, slightly curved tail, and four thin legs, a form that greatly diverges from real-life Flood Dragons and Zhuo Gan .

Then there’s the Ebony Tiger Talisman, bearing inlaid gold inscriptions on its back, its body split in two, moving ever so slowly forward with a shuffling gait. If it makes a slightly larger movement, the two halves of its body will misalign, splitting it in two.

And so on, the list is endless.

When the fossilized bones in the second exhibition hall gathered into a wave, washing through the entire hall, those animal or humanoid Magical Constructs in the deepest part of the third hall also started to slowly assemble.

The reason for ’slowly’ is because their shape and materials prevent them from being as agile as true Magical Creatures, so they could only move sluggishly, inching bit by bit down from the display stands, congregating, and then step by step heading towards the source of the fragrance.

...

...

The museum is alive.

The Door Gods, Shen Tu and Yu Lei, stationed at the two side doors in front of the museum, were certainly not dead.

Not long after the young wizards entered the museum, noises of tinkling and clanging came from inside, followed by bursts of thunder, and from time to time, conspicuous electric sparks flared behind those large floor-to-ceiling windows.

The flashes illuminated the winding corridors in front of the museum, and also lit up Yu Lei’s silent face.

His war halberd was placed by the door; he reached out to caress the neck of the White Tiger. The Golden-eyed White Tiger lay on the ground, its huge eyes wide open, filled with curiosity about what those young people were up to that caused such a commotion.

God Tu, holding a golden halberd, paced back and forth in front of the door, occasionally looking back at the noisy exhibition hall with an expression of apprehension on his face.

After a while, just when the noise in the second exhibition hall quieted down a bit, intense magic fluctuations came from the third hall. This Left Door God finally could not restrain himself and poked his head into the side door’s opening to the right.

”What do you think?” His tone was somewhat anxious: ”Should we go in and have a look?”

”No.”

”Why? We let them in!”

”Did they complete all the procedures when they entered?”

”...They did.”

”What are we?”

”...The Door Gods.”

”You, a Door God, leave your post in front of the door and run into the exhibition halls? What’s that all about?!”

”If...”

”If we leave our post and a thief enters, the consequences will be even more severe,” Yu Lei grabbed the White Tiger’s neck scruff, stroked it, listening to the purring of contentment from the tiger’s chest and slightly intensified his tone: ”... Or rather, if they leave with something they should not have, we naturally have a reason to prevent them from leaving.”

Upon hearing his companion’s impolite yet justified reply, the Left Door God sighed heavily, feeling the golden halberd in his arms had become much more cumbersome, sliding from his hands to the ground.

The tip of the halberd, gleaming coldly, hits the coarse stone floor, and with the movement of the Door God’s steps, it sparked brilliant golden-yellow sparks. Flickering on and off.

Just like the twinkling stars in the sky.

...

...

Besides the two Door Gods in front of the museum, Su Shijun was also disturbed by the commotion inside the museum.

Tonight, she did not return to Greenhill Mansion but stayed in the Two-Dimensional Evolution Lab to conduct experiments. Recently, in a particular two-dimensional world, a Reincarnator transformed into a mighty serpentine, devouring the heavens, with quite the notion of ’digesting the universe’s grievances and breaking through the birth membrane to renew life.’

This was the second time this year the lab had the opportunity to witness a dimensional evolution phenomenon.

All researchers, including Su Shijun, had not left the lab in the last few days. Having missed the first chance, none of them wanted to miss the second opportunity.

So, when the jade bracelet on Su Shijun’s wrist flickered a little, alerting her that something was happening at the school, the witch only hesitated for a moment before wiping her sleeve over it, covering the flash of light from the bracelet.
