Chapter 1456: Chapter 200 Exhibit Hall 3

The dark green vines crisscross, constructing a tight net.

The clacking sounds of skeletal fossils emerge continuously, resounding through the entire exhibition hall.

A Blue Giant, with several young wizards hanging around his waist, clutching his head, charges through the dense skeletal fossils, as if a traveler braving through a blizzard or a blue tornado sweeping across a white desert.

From time to time, one could see golden sparks blooming in the darkness.

Some sparks fall on the skeletal fossils, leaving behind charred areas; others fall on the Blue Giant, eliciting thunderous booms.

That thunder is the Giant’s pained howl.

The thunder starts from the entrance of the second hall, spreading until the end of the hall, and only slightly abates when the Blue Giant squeezes through the relatively narrow doorway into the third hall.

The thresholds, door frames, and lintels of the hall entrance remain silent when the Blue Giant and the young wizards pass, but when the skeletal fossils attempt to cross this border, the Gold and Silver Runes carved on them burst into a brilliant light, forming a thin yet more solid barrier than the thick vines.

It solidly isolates the frenzied skeletal fossils within the second hall.

The barrier seems white, yet it subtly flickers with rainbow-colored gleams, compelling one to lower their gaze and dare not look directly.

The white waves crash against the barrier of light, the spray shatters, scattering tiny droplets on the ground.

Thus, the tide recedes.

Most of the white crests roll back, chasing the drop of blood that clings to the Corkwood Branches. Yet many weak, foolish, and naive white waves linger at the entrance of the third hall, hesitating and not willing to leave.

Separated by that thin yet exceptionally tough barrier of light, the young wizards can hear the squeaking noises of the walls, thresholds, and floors being scratched by the skeletal fossils on the other side.

The Blue Giant sits heavily on the ground, his form deflating like a punctured ball, hissing as he rapidly shrinks from over ten meters tall to less than two meters.

The thunderous sound also transitions from dull to loud, then sharp, until it becomes faint yet clear:

”Sss... it hurts to death!”

Xin Fat Man gasps for air, the watch on his wrist flashing, bottles and containers clatter to the ground. He doesn’t look closely, seemingly rummaging haphazardly, quickly pours out a pile of gel-like ointments, mixing them into a greyish hue before crudely smearing it over his wounds.

His body still hasn’t entirely shed the blue hue.

After applying the greyish ointment.

He looks like a restored sculpture, even if placed on a display behind those red ropes, he wouldn’t appear out of place.

When Banna was still a Blue Giant, the wounds on his body did not seem noticeable. The blue and enormity concealed the extent of the damage. But once he became Xin Fat Man, many wounds could no longer be hidden.

The skeletal fossils, driven by instinct, know not the concept of ’holding back.’ Beneath each crisscrossing wound, the blue flesh curls, with some wounds still surrounded by tiny electric arcs or billowing black vapors, like maggots sticking to the bone, refusing to dissipate. The greyish ointment can only heal the flesh wounds but is powerless against the curses and hexes attached nearby.

”Tough times.”

Zheng Qing’s face turns pale as he pulls out a stack of Cleansing Charms and Evil-Exorcising Charms from the Grey Cloth Bag, helping to stick them on Xin Fat Man’s wounds. The talisman paper clashes with the black vapors and tiny sparks, instantly emitting wisps of green smoke, and swiftly, they turn into a puff of fine ash that falls from the Fat Man’s body.

Most of the blue hue on Banna has already faded away.

The wound had also healed by a large margin.

He let out a heavy sigh of relief, pulled a steaming hot chicken leg from his watch, and viciously tore a bite, shaking his head and lamenting, ”Such a loss, truly a big loss.”

Zheng Qing knew that when he mentioned ’such a loss’, he wasn’t referring to the injury he sustained from the fossilized bones today, nor the wastage of the ointments he just applied. Instead, it was the hunting team’s caught off-guard reaction that was not swift enough, making him feel somewhat at a loss.

Furry Bean suddenly popped out from somewhere, squatting beside Zheng Qing’s feet, wildly swinging its dusty tail, cocking its head, and eyeing the chicken leg in the fat man’s hand.

”Want it?” The fat man wiped the grease from the corner of his mouth and looked down at Gouzi.

Gouzi stole a glance at Zheng Qing, then gently let out a ’meow’.

”If you want it, you have to tell me. How would I know if you don’t say anything?” The fat man’s stubby fingers brushed over the watch casing, and another succulent chicken leg was taken out, tracing a beautiful arc in mid-air.

Gouzi leaped and caught the chicken leg, disappearing into thin air with a whoosh.

Without a moment’s hesitation.

”That’s it?!” The fat man was shocked as he watched Gouzi vanish, then he turned to look at Zheng Qing again: ”Shake your tail at me a couple of times at least!”

A dusty tail emerged from the void and swayed a couple of times in front of the fat man.

Then it retracted back.

On the other side, Xiao Xiao packed up the old grass and turtle shell in his hands, pinching off the flame of the white candle on the floor. He had just finished divining the hunting team’s next course of action.

”It’s not good,” as for the divination results, the doctor did not withhold: ”The divination is all mixed up, old grass tells us to proceed as planned, but the turtle shell warns us that the road ahead is fraught with danger... If it isn’t this museum confusing my divination, then it means tonight’s adventure is indeed risky.”

The young hunters fell silent, looking towards Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing thought about the Teacher’s prophecy, thought about Gouzi’s discovery, thought about that little girl in the mirror, and the feast she had treated him to, and the warmth of the match-light world he had enjoyed.

His gaze became much more resolute.

”I must go.” He simply stated his stance, without persuading others to leave. Because he knew others would not choose to leave under these circumstances.

”Very good, the divination also indicates that firm belief is the necessary condition to overcome the dangers ahead.”

Xiao Xiao nodded, seemingly satisfied with the cost student’s choice, then he adjusted his glasses and looked around, ”Besides the fat man, did anyone else get injured?”

Almost everyone shook their heads.

The reason it was ’almost’ is because, while Zheng Qing was shaking his head for the first time, he casually felt around his body to make sure all his parts were still intact.

Then his finger felt a stab of pain.

The wound was from being pricked by the thorns on Corkwood, and there was still a slight lingering pain.

The young cost student opened his mouth, planning to make a joke.

Then his smile froze at the corner of his mouth.
