High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1494: Chapter 238 Opening with Five Fireballs

”Ulrich’s disciple?” the tavern owner muttered, quietly moving a few steps backward until he was almost entirely hidden within the shadows of the tavern walls: ”That legendary great witch demon? The mentor of countless witch demons?”

”The Mist Ship?” another patron exclaimed: ”The Mist Ship that once challenged the Sea Demon King?”

”Is this young lady a subordinate of the Mist Captain?!”

”She indeed has the mark of the Mist on her arm!”

”When did witch demons and sea demons start collaborating? What are they doing in Dreamland?”

A tense and somewhat astonishment-filled buzz of conversation rose in the tavern, with every patron scrutinizing the two uninvited guests with assessing eyes; some even boldly dared to look into the eyes of the female demons.

The anticipated scene of a fight that Nikita was expecting did not happen.

When she revealed her pale neck, the three young hunters from the Absolution Hunting Team did not rush forward to attack her. Instead, they cautiously retreated a step and formed a conservative Triangle Defense Array, vigilantly facing the two female demons.

This was not due to cowardice.

It was because Furry Bean had just ’meowed’ a few times to Zheng Qing, informing him that the other two members of the hunting team were close by, less than a street away from Kitty’s Tavern in Minis.

So, for the sake of prudence and to secure an even greater advantage, Zheng Qing did not mind appearing more conservative at the moment. But this was not enough; he did not engage in combat, nor did he want the opponents to act first. Any time that could be stalled was beneficial.

”Everyone is curious about the purpose of the illustrious crew member of the Mist Ship visiting our small city,” said the young cost student to his companions, gesturing for them to stay calm while verbally buying time.

Without achieving the desired result, the female demon was slightly disappointed.

However, she did not mind having a longer chat with the few young wizards—perhaps because of the obsession hidden deep within her heart for Zhou, Nikita occasionally felt a hint of nostalgia for her life as a wizard buried in her memories.

She beckoned with her hand.

A cup of freshly poured honey wine from the bar landed in her hand.

The female demon took a small sip, smacked her lips, and the crimson in her eyes softened a bit: ”Looking for someone... to be precise, it’s you people we’re looking for.”

Zheng Qing licked his dry lips, tugging at the corners of his mouth:

”Truly... unexpectedly... terrifying.”

...

...

”Bang!”

A fruit basket in front of a fruit stand was knocked into the air, and several purple berries scattered like flowers thrown by heavenly maidens in all directions.

The curses of the stand owner and the noise from the pedestrians merged like boiling water in a copper pot, fermenting within this crowded alley.

”Sorry! Very sorry!”

A tall and sturdy Blue Fatty was apologizing to the stand owner while dashing forward quickly, with no intention of stopping to deal with the trouble. Not far ahead of him, the main hunter with the red face was running headlong, overturning one roadside stand after another, as well as pedestrians.

Furry Bean was leading the way about ten meters ahead of the two warlocks.

Because Furry Bean could travel through the gaps in space, Gouzi’s leadership did not cause any disturbance; instead, he moved with ease, even leisurely chasing his tail and spinning in circles on the spot.

And the reason for their frantic rush was because Furry Bean had brought some bad news.

Zheng Qing and the others had encountered demons.

This is not First University, there is no School Guardian Array or an Assistant Team that can quickly arrive on the scene; the young Hunters from the Absolution Hunting Team can only rely on themselves.

This isn’t like playing at hunting familiar demons at the Hunting Ground.

They were to confront real Demons.

With this thought, Zhang Ji Xin’s expression grew even more solemn, and his pace quickened.

...

...

Minis’ Kitty’s Tavern.

In the hall.

The standoff continued, and the young state-funded student was still trying to stall for time: ”May I have the honor of knowing... what business you have with us?”

He tried to use politeness to narrow the gap between the two sides of the confrontation.

Nikita took another small sip of her honey wine, savoring the flavor that lingered deep in memory, then she dismissed it: ”Repeat my earlier proposal.”

”The previous... proposal?” This time, Zheng Qing was really caught off guard. Jiang Yu and Xiao Xiao subconsciously looked back at the Wizard, their eyes inquiring about what he meant.

The perplexity on Zheng Qing’s face was no less than theirs.

Fortunately, Nikita soon clarified their confusion.

”Last year’s proposal on the school’s private plane.” The Female Demon swirled her glass, a charming smile on her face, reminding them: ”...Come with me to the Mist Ship, wealth, freedom, power – everything you desire can be found on that ship.”

Furry Bean squatted next to Zheng Qing’s feet, snorted loudly as if letting out a weird laugh.

Surprise flashed across Zheng Qing’s face as well.

After a moment, he came back to his senses, sighed: ”You see, even the dog is mocking your words... The things you speak of, they can all be had at First University; to us, what we want isn’t the most important thing, it’s knowing what we don’t want that matters... So, can you make a more constructive suggestion?”

The Female Demon’s crimson gaze fell on Furry Bean.

Gouzi yelped, and with a ’pop’, vanished into thin air.

”Then what don’t you want?” Her gaze returned to the young state-funded student.

Zheng Qing lowered his eyelids, his gaze falling on the Little Witch who was swinging her short legs on a chair a few steps away, a touch of sadness in his eyes: ”I don’t want to eat human flesh, don’t want to drink human blood... nor do I want to fall from grace like her.”

Nikita followed the Wizard’s gaze to the Little Witch and raised her eyebrows again.

”Hmm, perhaps there’s a misunderstanding.” She tilted her head, patiently explaining: ”That’s not the little one you think it is. The one you’re thinking of is still in the Enchanted Forest... This one is a crew member from the Poseidon Ship, No Face. Hmm, you should be quite familiar; it spent some time as a pet at the school.”

No Face timely raised its little hand: ”Yo, Brother Qing, long time no see, how’s Fifi doing? Is that idiot Nicholas still pestering her? I wanted to bite him dead the first time I met him because I saw his ill intentions, but Fifi wouldn’t let me... What do you think of my new face?”

Zheng Qing ignored the Little Witch’s incessant recollections.

His vision brightened as the heavy clouds that were suppressing his heart suddenly dissipated.

But at the same time, behind him, the sound of a glass breaking crisply arose; as the Little Witch’s speech was still hanging, a fierce magic fluctuation erupted from behind Zheng Qing.

”You’re that Faceless Demon!”

Accompanied by Jiang Yu’s angry voice, five blazing Fireballs shot out from right behind Zheng Qing, grazing his hair – so close that Zheng Qing could smell the scorched ends of his hair.
