High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1452: Chapter 196: A Magical Night at the Museum

After reaching the shore, not far from the lake, was the museum entrance.

Located along the midline of the lake was the main entrance of the museum, which was tightly closed; each side had a slightly shorter side door. There were wooden thresholds and stone steps under the doors, and tall dark-red columns; the eaves of the door were tilted with brackets supporting them, and under the eaves corners were gargoyles, opening their big mouths towards the moon. Moonlight, like flowing water, cascaded from the sky, pouring into Little Dragon’s mouth.

”The main entrance is not opened except on major holidays or for important guests,” Xiao Xiao took everyone towards the side door on the left, whispering, ”From now on, until we reach that mirror, none of you should speak. Let me handle the negotiations.”

Zheng Qing was about to ask what he was negotiating at this late hour when suddenly a strong breeze swept overhead, and a rough and loud voice broke the quiet in front of the museum:

”Visitors, halt!”

Whoosh!

The team of five simultaneously stopped their steps.

Out of the shadowy door emerged a figure in dazzling armor, with an imposing demeanor and holding a golden halberd. Zheng Qing had seen this figure in many places at school, but at those places, the figure was either hanging on the door or left on red paper, much smaller in size and without the oppressive aura exuded by the one in front of him.

It was indeed the Left Door God, God Tu.

Where there is a Left Door God, there must be a Right Door God.

Zheng Qing’s gaze lingered on God Tu for a few seconds before he immediately turned to look at the right side door. Although it was quiet over there, Zheng Qing vaguely saw a fluffy big head and a pair of gleaming golden eyes behind the stone steps of the right door, curiously looking this way.

That must be the Golden-eyed White Tiger raised by Yu Lei, the young cost student thought to himself.

Xiao Xiao stepped forward, handing over the temporary access pass and student card to God Tu, answering respectfully, ”We are volunteers from the school, borrowed by the museum, to sort out a batch of exhibits that were stored yesterday.”

The Door God’s eyes emitted two red sparks, falling on the two cards.

”Working late at night?” Seeing the credentials were in order, God Tu returned the cards to Xiao Xiao, scratched his head, his face puzzled, and turned to shout to the other side, ”Should we let them through?”

”That’s your decision,” a gruff and muffled voice came from the door on the right, ”...If they are confirmed to want to enter the museum late at night, and their papers are in order, we have no reason to keep them out.”

The Golden-eyed White Tiger agreed with a howl.

God Tu shook his head, looking at the young wizards, reconfirming, ”Are you sure you want to go in? It’s not daytime... not a good time for work.”

The young wizards nodded uniformly, silently expressing their attitude.

The Door God sighed, ”Well then... provide the relevant documents, line up and enter in turn.”

When Zheng Qing handed his access pass and student card to God Tu, he felt the chillingly hard touch. Looking up, he saw that the Door God’s face was ashen, his expression somewhat blank. Only then did he realize that this Door God was made of stone.

”I almost thought it was real!” Zheng Qing quickly stepped forward, leaning to whisper into Xiao Xiao’s ear, ”Such a delicate Alchemy Puppet, why doesn’t the school provide more of these?”

Xiao Xiao turned back, glaring fiercely at him while raising his hand and making a zipper motion at his mouth.

The young cost student stepped back quietly and closed his mouth.

The squad passed silently through the doorway.

Behind them, God Tu’s last caution echoed: ”... Remember, the use of large-scale and lethal magic is prohibited in the museum, as well as chasing and frolicking, using teleportation Escape Technique... Violators will be punished in accordance with the ’Magic History Museum Management Regulations of First University’...”

Xiao Xiao had already mentioned these points to everyone in advance.

The entire hunting team moved in silence, passing through the narrow doorway, circling around the courtyard behind the door, and entering the first exhibition hall along the left corridor. Zheng Qing didn’t see the name of this hall, but from the exhibits displayed from the entrance, it could be judged that this should belong to the exhibition hall of the savage era.

Petrified fangs quietly lay on velvet cushions, ancient Jade Beads emitted a faint cold light in the dark, turtle shells carved with crude runes, perforated beast bones, and black beast skin riddled with holes big and small by insects; each exhibit was displayed in glass cabinets, telling the visitors the struggling steps of magic during the savage era.

The slight footsteps of young wizards echoed in the exhibition hall.

As they went further into the museum, the magic power emitted by the exhibits became increasingly stronger.

The first Simple Lai Immortal Fire, the eternal flame that never extinguishes, still radiated a warm light after burning for tens of thousands of years; the first movable spring, placed in a Bronze Cauldron, the clear spring water gushed from the spring, gathering as thick as chopsticks and gurgling before vanishing at the outlet of the exhibition stand; also, the bear skin needed by ancient Druids when performing Transformation, the yellowish linen strips used by Egyptians to bind mummies, the skull of the Minotaur killed by Theseus in Crete, and so on.

The wide variety of exhibits dazzled the guests, almost rooting them to the spot.

When the hunting team was once again distracted by a glowing stone mirror in the corner of the exhibition hall, Xiao Xiao, as the team leader, had to stop and warn everyone: ”If we go at your pace, we won’t reach our destination even by midnight... The museum is always here, why don’t you come and visit during the day?”

”No time,” Zheng Qing reluctantly shifted his gaze away from a gold mask of an Egyptian Pharaohs and muttered, ”Classes, the library, hunting team training, compulsory labor for school punishment, D&K management... and all those messy things.”

As he counted, he sighed heavily.

Never have I heard of a first year student having so much to do.

”Only dead people don’t have time,” Xiao Xiao criticized bluntly: ”Even the Pharaohs in the Pyramids have time to trim their nails and straighten the wrappings on their bodies.”

”The mirror doesn’t glow during the daytime,” Xin Fat Man chimed in quietly, raising his feather pen.

Zheng Qing looked towards Jiang Yu, hoping she would also support his point of view.

But he noticed that the witch was frowning, looking into the depths of the exhibition hall, her hands unknowingly clutching an opened Law book, a series of magic spell formulas slowly flowing between the pages, like a group of foraging ants.

Following the witch’s gaze, Zheng Qing saw only darkness, nothing unusual.

”What are you looking at?” he asked in a low voice.

The witch shook her head, her tone also uncertain: ”I always felt that I just heard something... Didn’t you hear it? It sounded like someone was whispering over there.”

This reply immediately put the entire hunting team on alert.

Everyone instinctively pulled out their Law books, ready to respond. But after a long look, the darkness remained silent, without a stir.
