Chapter 1470: Chapter 214: Descending into Another World

As soon as Zheng Qing touched the white mist on the surface of the mirror, he felt an immense and viscous force begin to envelop him. The amulet on his body burst into brilliant light almost in an instant.

He exerted force with both hands, attempting to grasp the two companions before and behind him.

But Xiao Xiao’s palms were somewhat sweaty and slippery, and within a very short time of entering the passageway within the mirror, she slid out of his hands. Hesitating for a few seconds, the Wizard gave up the futile effort to reach out and turned around to embrace the Witch behind him.

A black cat tail emerged from beneath his robe, acting like a long rope, wrapping around the waists of the two of them.

The Witch hummed softly, her cat ears atop her head drooping down softly.

The two tumbled together into the deepest part of the World in the Mirror.

Not knowing how long they tumbled.

Zheng Qing felt as if it was a very long distance, as if a month or even a year had passed. Yet it also felt incredibly brief, so brief that he hadn’t even completed a full breath before his back slammed heavily into a soft meadow, knocking the wind almost out of him.

Uh.

Zheng Qing grunted, too hurried to catch his breath, and eagerly opened his eyes.

What entered his sight was a dead oak tree. The thick trunk of the oak was split open in the middle, revealing a dark, hollow heart. The edges of the split, as if struck by lightning or scorched by wildfire, displayed the distinctive charred traces of carbonization.

The Gate of the Mysterious Female.

Zheng Qing stared at the cracks on the trunk of the tree, and these words abruptly surfaced in his mind—this was the passage through the Magic Mirror into Dreamland, which the Wizard perceived through some sort of mystical awareness.

This information was the gift from that mirror and this World to its guests.

The Witch was still curled up in his arms.

Zheng Qing retracted the cat tail, helped the Witch up, and stood, looking around.

Behind the dead oak tree was a dense and sturdy forest of young oaks, their branches and leaves interweaving to form a vibrant green scene; in contrast, directly in front of the dead oak tree, separated by merely a thread, there were no plants taller than twenty centimeters, wide expanses of fluffy grass leaves interwoven to construct a nest of soft meadows.

And there were plump mushrooms growing at the foot of the oak, spilling out pale green phosphorescence on the ground.

The edge of the sky began to glow faintly, and some light breezes floated from afar. Zheng Qing was surprised to discover that the wind here was visible. This was because the wind twirled with annoying, palpably real emotions which, when blowing across one’s face, easily stirred one’s mood.

Jiang Yu flicked her hair away from her cheeks and straightened her robe.

Then she took out several green jade buttons from her pocket and threw them at fixed points around her, forming a simple Protect Legal Formation. The jade buttons emitted misty green glows beneath the dry branches, fallen leaves, stones, and mushrooms, linking with each other and raising a barrier.

Throughout the whole process, either her eyelids drooped or she looked in other directions, avoiding eye contact with Zheng Qing.

”This is Dreamland.”

The Witch looked towards the tall oaks behind her and the shadowy brown figures appearing in the forest, her tone light but certain as she said, ”...a World even more remote and grandiose than the World in the Mirror. If I’m not mistaken, this should be the Enchanted Forest of Dreamland.”

Zheng Qing did not ask her how she knew this specific location.

He also did not ask whether she had been injured during the recent journey.

Both tacitly ignored the experience they had just gone through.

The World in the Mirror, the Dream World, both are parts of Dreamland, situated at its edge. Zheng Qing knew this even before he entered the Magic Mirror.

Last time, under his master’s guidance, he only stayed at the edge of Dreamland for a brief moment before escaping this world of illusion and reality with Zhu Si’s help.

This time, he willingly threw himself into the passage above the Magic Mirror.

Naturally, he would slide far, very far, along that passage.

Zheng Qing raised his wrist to look at the Red String tied there and the withered Mystical Grain leaf that had long lost all its magic power.

The leaf was as tranquil as ever, showing not a hint of reaction.

The Warlock sighed softly in his heart.

He did not know which corner of Dreamland the Faceless Demon hid in, nor whether Zhu Si was still at the edge of Dreamland. He could only hope for the Little Witch - because Zhu Si had told him that as long as he came to this world again, she could find him.

”What’s that place?” the young scholarship student pointed towards the distance.

Beyond the edge of the grassland, one could vaguely make out the silhouette of a mountain range hidden behind the thin Mist. In front of the mountains, there was a large expanse of well-developed farmland, silvery ribbons of rivers, rolling water wheels, fences, wooden cabins, and chimneys puffing blue smoke, along with the sound of dogs barking carried by the wind.

”I don’t know,” the Witch shook her head, paused, and then asked in return: ”Which way should we go?”

Forward, an open meadow lay with smoke rising, rivers running, and mountains in the distance.

Behind, a dense forest stood, with glowing mushrooms scattered throughout.

Zheng Qing looked at the grassland in front of him and the signs of human life beyond; he also glanced back at the dense forest and the small brown figures that flickered in and out of sight within it.

”There’s an old saying, ’Look at the river and you’ll run your horse to death,’” he bravely glanced at the Witch, then quickly averted his eyes, his voice dropping slightly: ”...although we have the Armor Horse Charm, I think making contact with the natives of Dreamland straight away is not a safe choice as newcomers.”

”And before deciding which way to go, I think we should first gather everyone together.”

The Witch nodded in agreement with the Warlock’s judgment.

This gave Zheng Qing a bit more confidence.

”This is a well-prepared Mystical Grain leaf, wearing it can prevent us from sinking into Dreamland.” He rummaged in the Grey Cloth Bag and pulled out a bunch of equipment he had prepared earlier, explaining each one:

”These are the Calm Heart Talisman and Clear Heart Symbol, they work like Snake Oil; no matter when, always good to hang a few on you... And these bottles of Magic Potion I asked senior Deng Xiaojian to help prepare, meant for use during final exams to help us focus and stabilize our spirits.”

Watching the enthusiastic Warlock in front of her, Jiang Yu bit her lip, slyly slipped the Jade Pendant she was fidgeting with back into her belt, then cheerfully accepted the young scholarship student’s gifts.

”How far do you think they are from us?” she asked casually, looking at the swirling green Potion inside the glass bottles.

”That’s a question for the experts.”

Zheng Qing blinked and looked around, not seeing the greyish figure, so he shook his head and called out:

”Furry Bean!”

Poof.

Outside the protective shield, the flowing multicolored winds were shattered by a greyish figure. Gouzi wagged his Tail, excitedly looking at the young Wizard inside the Array, and let out a soft meow: ”Meow~!”
